Bowers, 82, were held at Salem Methodist Church. She was a member of the
Salem Methodist Church and a prominent member of the Salem Community. Miss Dora Bower married
J.A. McLaren on 4 July 1894 at her parent's home in the Salem Bend community.
They lived in the Salem Bend community the rest of their lives. She moved to the Henry
Chapel Community with her parents at the age of 21. She was the oldest of six
children. Mrs. McLaren was a
devoted community and church worker. For many years, the school teachers of
the Salem Bend Community school lived in her home. The McLaren home was
always made available to the social activites of the Salem Bend
Community. Mrs. McLaren joined the Methodist Church in early youth and had
always been a devoted church worker. J.A. and Dora McLaren donated one acre
of land for the Salem Methodist Church building. She was one of the leaders
in moving the Salem Church building to Graham, Texas. Survived by one daughter
- Marie Atwood; one grandson; three brothers - Posey, Arthur and Shelton
Bower; two sisters - Etta Akers and Flora Wade. Pallbearers were: Bill
Atwood, J.T. Wadley, Jug Bennett, Henry Banks, Don Casey and Herman Choate. 1962 Burial: Gooseneck Cemetery, Graham, Young Co., TX.
