2014 Obit: (src: Find A Grave) Colene Turman Cannaday, 84, of Bedford, passed away Friday, December
12, 2014 at Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born on Saturday, November
22, 1930 in Floyd County, a daughter of the late Edgar Harmon Turman and Essie Smith Turman.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Esley
Harmon Cannaday. She was retired from Piedmont
Label and was a member of Bedford Baptist Church. Surviving is her husband of
sixty-four years, Thornton Lee Cannaday; her
daughters, Rhonda Gibbons and husband, Michael of Charlotte, N.C., Lisa C. Dease and husband, Marc of Forest; granddaughters,
Brittanie Berry and husband, Ben of Forest, Emily Gibbons of Raleigh, N.C.;
her grandson, Ryan Gibbons of Raleigh, N.C. Funeral Services will be held on
Monday, December 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Bedford Baptist Church with Dr. David
Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The
family will receive friends on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the
service at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home
& Cremation Service, Bedford. |

Mae Compton, at Christiansburg, VA. Born in Floyd County, VA., he had been a resident
of Mercer County for 54 years and was a retired farmer. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Mae Compton of
Christiansburg, VA., Mrs. Virgie Carter of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Mrs. Cora
Bickerson of Riner, VA.; four sons, Emmett Clemons
and Rushia Clemons, both of Princeton, Edward
Clemons of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, and Charles Clemons of Winston-Salem, N.C.;
37 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren, on sister, Mrs. Adam Dickerson
of Floyd, VA. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Davis Funeral
Chapel at Oakvale with Rev. L.M. Hollandsworth officiating. Burial will follow
