TYRELL CABIN BURIAL SITE

Thanks to Chuck Kimber, who sent the following photos and information about the small cemetery located next to the Tyrell Cabin in Etna.

It is the old homesite of what was known as the Tyrell Cabin. It appears there are two graves there, but there may only be one. I found the graves while searching for a guy in California who was writing a book and doing genealogy about Orrin Porter Rockwell relatives. Orrin's daughter Emily Amanda Rockwell lived at the cabin for many years. He thought that she may have been buried there, but after some time searching, he finally found her in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Legend has it, and I believe it to be true, that she died at the cabin, and was transported to the rail depot at Lucin, and shipped to Salt Lake City for burial with the rest of the famous family.

I believe, but cannot prove that the two graves remaining at the cabin are her second husband Henry Willard Brizzee, Born 1 May 1826. And I believe the other grave was her daughter, Lucy aka,"Lulu", B (Woolsey) Stuart. She apparently moved to Grouse Creek from San Francisco after her husband died to live with her mother Emily Amanda. Lulu apparently died 27 March 1899, and I believe she is buried at the cabin site. One other possibility exists for who could be in the graves, and that is Emily Amanda Rockwell's third husband David M. Tyrell, who died 21 April 1897. He was either buried at the Tyrell Cabin site, or at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. You may want to check the SLC cemetery records to see if you can find him there.

The old "Tyrell Cabin Site Cemetery" is located on the Warr ranch currently, just North of where the road splits and goes either up to the Warr home, or to the West to the old Thomas ranch. The cemetery has a location of 41*45'58" North, and 113*52'54" West.

A descendant of Henry Brizzee wrote in May, 2001, with the following information: Henry Willard Brizzee was buried in the Mesa Cemetery, Mesa, Arizona, with his third wife Ann Long Didsbury. Emily Amanda Rockwell Brizzee Tyrell may be buried in the Salt Lake Cemetery, but she is not buried near her father, Orrin Porter Rockwell.

If anyone can shed some light on the burials near the Tyrell cabin, please contact the coordinator.
