The happy marriage of Miss Rosa Lee Reeves to Mr. Abendroth occurred Monday evening in Bay City, Rev. Storey, Presbyterian minister, officiating. The couple left for Needville immediately after the ceremony, where they will make their home for the present. Rosa Lee, as she is affectionately known by her many friends in Palacios, has been in school here a number of years and all who know her, love her, and to this young couple hearty congratulations and good wishes are extended.

Miss Margaret Ottino, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Ottino, became the bride of John Gilbert Acosta of Bay City in a ceremony at St. Anthony's Catholic Church at 7:30 Saturday morning, November 1. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Patrick O'Farrell. The bride chose for her wedding a white brocade suit with an orchid corsage. Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Ottino, brother and sister-in-law of the bride, were their only attendants. A reception was held at the bride's home following the ceremony. After a short wedding trip, the couple will make their home in Palacios temporarily.

Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Munds announce the marriage of their daughter, Lois, to Harles W. Adams, son of Mrs. Lillie Lanier of Harlingen, Texas. The wedding was solemnized in Harlingen, Monday, April 1st, at eight o’clock with Rev. Ches Lovern of the Methodist Church officiating. Their only attendants were their roommates, Miss Wencie Jenkins and Mr. Jack Verser. The ceremony was performed in the presence of their immediate families and a few close friends. The couple will live in Weslaco.

A quiet wedding Saturday evening at the home of the officiating minister, Rev. F. G. Clark, pastor of the M. E. Church, united the lives and destinies of two more of our young people. The contracting parties were Miss Maurine Lawson, daughter of Gordon Lawson, and Butler Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Allen. The bride has spent all her life in Palacios, graduated from our High School and then took a course in a Business College in Houston. She is now an assistant in the Roger Grocery. Butler assists his father in the Pickwick Bakery. They are popular and deserving young people and have a host of friends with whom we join in congratulations. Mr. and Mrs. Allen have rooms with Mrs. S. H. Moore.

A double wedding ceremony of interest to Palacios friends and in which three of our young people were participants, occurred in Bay City Sunday, when Miss Oleta Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Allen of the Pickwick Bakery, became the bride of Mr. Bernis (Pee Wee) Horn of Gulf, and Miss Vivian Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Cox, became the bride of Mr. Roy Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Allen. The young people motored to the county seat where the nuptial vows were made after which they went to Houston and Galveston for a short honeymoon trip, returning to Palacios today, Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Horn will make their home in Gulf where Mr. Horn has a position with the Gulf Sulphur Co., and has been employed there the past four years or more. Mrs. Horn is young in years but mature in manner and has been an able assistant in the front part of the bakery the past year. Mr. Allen is now employed on a dredge working near Bay City, but assisted his father here in the bakery when they first came to Palacios some two years ago. Mrs. Allen grew up here and has a host of admirers in the social circle in which she moved. The Beacon takes pleasure in joining the many friends of these popular and deserving young people in hearty felicitations and best wishes.

News of interest to the citizens of Huntsville is that of the marriage of Miss Sylvia Pearl Rittenhouse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilber B. Rittenhouse, to Mr. Raymon W. Allen, son of Mrs. L. P. Allen, which was quietly solemnized in the First Baptist Church of Houston, Texas, Sunday, June 6, at 8:30 a. m. Dr. E. D. Head, pastor of the church, reading the ceremony in the presence of members of the family and a few intimate friends. Mrs. Allen is a graduate of the Huntsville High School, attended the State University and later graduated from the Sam Houston State Teachers College. She is a member of the Alpha Chi and Pi Omega Pi honorary societies. Mr. Allen is also a graduate of the Huntsville High School and the Sam Houston State Teachers College and is a member of Pi Omega Pi. Immediately after the wedding ceremony the young couple left for an extended trip through the East, visiting Washington, D. C., New York City and Quebec, Canada, and returning home by the way of Niagara Falls and the Great Lakes. Mrs. Allen is head of the Business Administration Department of the Pasadena High School and Mr. Allen is a teacher in the Business Administration Department of the Spring High School in Harris County. Mr. and Mrs. Allen expect to make their home in Pasadena, Texas.—Huntsville Item. Mrs. Allen is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Rittenhouse of this city, and the Beacon joins friends in extending congratulations.

wedding marked by simplicity and beauty took place Thursday at 2 p.m. at
the Baptist parsonage when Miss Mae Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.
R. Walker of Cedar Lane became the bride of Clarence R. Allen of the
Rugeley vicinity. Reverend Rainer read the ritual.
Miss
Walker has taught school in the county several years and her many
friends throughout join in wishing her much happiness. Mr. Allen is a
well known citizen of the county, working with it many years and enjoys
respect and confidence of many friends. Mr. and Mrs. Allen left immediately after the ceremony for a brief stay in Houston. They will make their home in Wadsworth.

The marriage of Miss Lucille Curtis to R. C. Allford, was solemnized at 5:30 p. m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Curtis, seven miles north of Palacios. Only immediate members of the family and a few near friends were present and Rev. Carroll B. Ray performed the ceremony. Following congratulations all partook of a bounteous feast, prepared for the occasion, after which the newly-weds left for Houston. The bride is a registered nurse, receiving her diploma from Baylor School of Nursing a year ago last summer, and has worked at her profession most of the time since she graduated. The groom, we learn, is prominently connected with the oil business in Goose Creek, where they will make their home, after a short honeymoon trip visiting relatives in East Texas. This is a most worthy young couple and we join their large circle of friends in hearty felicitations.

A quiet wedding took place at the home of Dr. and Mrs. J. R. Wagner Saturday night, when Miss Norvella Stallard was united in marriage to Walter Alton, Rev. Wm. Speck performing the ceremony, which was witnessed by only a few close friends. Mrs. Alton has been employed in the Peacock Beauty Salon since she finished her course in the San Antonio Beauty College. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stallard of this city and graduated from the Palacios high school with the class of 1940. Mr. Alton is also a graduate of the Palacios high school, being a member of the class of ’37. He now has a civil service position at Randolph Field, and the newly weds left soon after the wedding rites for San Antonio where they will make their home. The Beacon joins with their many friends in extending congratulations and best wishes.

Tuesday afternoon Dr. W. L. Amend, of Alvin, and Miss Algie Haines were married at Bay City. The wedding party, consisting of the bride and groom, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Nixon and Mrs. J. E. McGuire, returned at once to Palacios where an informal reception was held a the home of the bride's parents. Mrs. Amend is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Haines, of this city, whose friends are limited only by her acquaintances. Dr. Amend is a popular young dentist and ranchman of Alvin. These young people will be at home at Alvin, Okla., after August first.

A wedding of affectionate interest occurred in the Presbyterian church Sunday morning at 9 o’clock when Miss Marian Nester, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Nester, was married to Charles Everett Ames, son of Dr. and Mrs. W. E. Ames, of Houston. The double ring service was used with Rev. G. F. Gillespie reading the ceremony before a background of greenery with an arch way of foliage and lavender zinnias, banked by floor baskets, of ferns and purple asters, vases of pink roses and burning tapers in floor standards. Carlton Crawford sang the bridal solo, “Always,” accompanied at the piano by Miss Gertrude Koerber. A duet, “Into the Dawn With You” was sung by Mrs. O. C. Arnold and Mrs. R. J. Sisson. The choir sang “Lohengrin’s Bridal Chorus” for the wedding party to enter and during the ceremony Schubert’s “Serenade,” was softly played by Miss Koerber. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a tailored model of burnt rust crepe, and brown accessories, with gardenia corsage and carried the handkerchief her mother carried on her wedding day, also her sister. She was attended by her mother, Mrs. C. W. Nester, as matron of honor who wore a costume of purple crepe with accessories to match. Miss Doris Ames, sister of the groom, was maid of honor and wore a frock of green with matching accessories. Marvin Ammons of Houston served as best man. Allen Carpenter, William Ames, of Houston, Carl Trull and Joseph Tannier, of Palacios, were ushers. Immediately after the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents, where Miss Elizabeth Stadig had charge of the bride’s book and Misses Bobby and Nancy Price, Nelle Sorrell, Jean Trull and Elizabeth Faubion assisted in serving individual cakes and punch. Among the gifts received was a beautiful silver bowl from the grandparents of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Ames, of Houston which was given to them on their wedding day Sept. 5, 1883. At the noon hour the wedding party and out-of-town guests were entertained at dinner by Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bolling at their home on East Bay. Following the wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Ames will be at home in Woodsboro, Texas, where he has employment with an oil company. He is a graduate of the Houston University. Mrs. Ames is one of Palacios’ most charming and admired girls. She is a graduate of our high school, and for the past two years attended the Mary Baldwin College at Staunton, Va. She has been an active worker in her church and all its organizations and has a circle of friends that can’t be measured, with whom we join in wishing for her a life full of joy and happiness of the journey’s end. Out of town guests who attended the wedding included Mesdames M. G. Huntington, L. A. Bryan, Chester Hawkins of Woodsboro, Texas; Dr. and Mrs. W. E. Ames, Mrs. W. H. Ames, Marvin Ammons, J. A wedding of interest here is that of Miss Marion Tanis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tanis of Edna to Mr. William Madison Amos, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Amos of this city at the home of the bride in Edna on Saturday night, July sixth at eight o'clock. Rev. C. H. Spence officiating.
The Tanis home was beautifully but simply decorated in many pink and white summer flowers and ferns. The improvised altar was lovely, banked in ferns and baskets of the flowers.
The bride, unattended, wore a chic suit of navy blue triple sheer crepe with accessories to match. Her corsage was of white gardenias. The groom, also unattended, wore a navy blue suit.
The immediate families of the young couple were the only witnesses of the ceremony, and were the only guests at the reception which followed.
The bride and groom left immediately afterwards for Monterrey, Mexico, where they visited until last Sunday. They will be at home in East Columbia where Mr. Amos has a position with the Danciger Oil Company.
The bride attended the Edna schools and later a college. She has been working in Columbus where she had a position with the Central Power and Light Company.
The groom attended the Bay City schools, later attending and graduating from A. & M. College. He has worked for the Central Power and Light Company, also. Mr. Amos is one of Bay City's most popular young men.

Harrison, both well-known and popular young people of the city, were married last Saturday morning at the St. Marys Episcopal church at Houston, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson will make their home at Palacios. Their many friends join in offering their hearty congratulations, wishing them unlimited happiness and prosperity.

Arnold, who received his discharge from the service in January, after being in the Pacific Zone for some time. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride Sunday at 6:30 p. m. with Rev. On Tuesday night last Mr. W. B. Arnold and Miss Carleen Roberta Stone of Wadsworth were united in marriage at the Methodist parsonage, Rev. J. F. Carter officiating. While this was a quick marriage, it was not a quick match, as the engagement was of several months standing and their friends were on the lookout. The young lady being in town on a visit to her sister, Miss Lena Stone of Moore & Reynolds. Cupid entangled them in his meshes and Bro. Carter was called on to tie the knot. Mr. Arnold is one of our prominent business men, as one of the proprietors of Arnold's Market, while the bride is one of the charming young ladies of Wadsworth, daughter of the druggist there. The happy couple have the hearty good wishes of hosts of friends, in which the News-Farmer joins most heartily.

Mr. Edwin Avery of Palacios and Mrs. Mary Jones, of Shawnee, Okla. Were united in marriage last Sunday morning at 10:45 o’clock at the M. E. Church, Rev. Garret officiating. The ceremony that united these two lives was very simple and impressive and many friends were present to congratulate the happy couple. Immediately after the ceremony “Blest Be the Tie that Binds” was sung while congratulations were offered to the newly married couple. Mr. and Mrs. Avery will be at home to their many friends on Welch Ave.
