held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Shiloh Baptist
Church, Cedar Lane with the Pastor Steven Staten, presiding, and the
Rev. Carl Kemp, eulogist. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery.

Leroy De’Von Sidney Funeral services for Leroy De’Von Sidney, age 57 of Los Angeles, California, will be held Saturday July 22, 1995 at 2:00 P. M. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist in Cedar Lane, Texas, with the Rev. Murry Griggs officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane, Texas. Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 9:00 P. M. Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 P. M. in the Chapel of Green’s Mortuary. Leroy will lie in state at the Church Saturday from 1:00 P. M. until 2:00 P. M. Leroy was born September 18, 1937, to Israel Sidney and Rosalie Bell Griggs in Matagorda County, Texas. He died July 13, 1955 in Los Angeles, Calif. Leroy grew up in the Cedar Lane Community and attended Public School in Los Angeles, California. Survivors: a son, Michael Sidney of Los Angeles, California, a daughter, Ieyhia Franklin of Bay City, Texas, a granddaughter, Bra-Lynn Battle of Bay City, Tx., his mother, Rosalie Griggs of Cedar Lane, Texas, his step-mother, Joanna Sidney of Los Angeles, California. Sisters Carolyn Griggs, Viola Grice of Cedar Lane, Texas, Ola Times of Brazoria, Ida Basey & Catherine Griggs of Houston, Texas, Shearly “Sharon” Scott of Missouri City, Lottie Casey of Los Angeles, California. Six brothers: Benjamin Griggs of Sweeney, Texas, Lewis Griggs and Eddie Griggs of Lake Jackson, Texas, Elroy Griggs of Brazoria, Texas, Albert Griggs and Wilbert Smith of Bay City, Texas. And a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Benjamin Griggs, Albert Griggs, Lewis Griggs, Wilbert Smith, Elroy Griggs, Willie Fields, Eddie Griggs, Jr., Remus Richardson. Honorary Pallbearers are Wayland Griggs, Robert Griggs, Rondell Griggs, Kenneth Grice, Verlin Griggs, Elroy Thompson, Cedric Griggs, Russell Dale. Green’s Mortuary, located at 2702 Ave C Bay City, Texas, is in charge of the arrangements.

Funeral services for Margaret Sidney, 56, of Cedar Lane/Houston, Texas, will be held at 11 a. m. Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with the Rev. Carl L. Kemp officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. Mardie passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010. She is preceded in death by: her parents, Deacon Alex and Sister Alice Mae Sidney; and two sisters, Mary Ann Sidney and Ethel Gladys Sidney. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a. m. Friday at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

Michael Riddick, II eulogist. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. A wake will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 224 CR 160. He was born in Bay City, Texas, January 24, 1969, and passed away May 27, 2012, in Bay City. He was employed by Excel Construction, Freeport, Texas. Survivors include: his mother, Dorothy Sidney Thomas of Lake Jackson; his father, Larry Fields of Bay City; three brothers, Selwyn Thomas (Kizzy) of Houston, Dorian Thomas of Ft. Sophie Sidney Funeral services for Sophie Sidney, 78, of Cedar Lane will be held 1:30 p. m. Thursday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with the Rev. Nathan Johnson, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Houston, officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane. Visitation hours are until 9 p. m. today at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral home chapel. Mrs. Sidney was born Aug. 12, 1913, to Bud and Josephine Lee Woodard in Cedar Lane and died 1:30 a. m. Jan. 20, 1992, in her home. She was a retired school teacher who received her bachelor of science degree and master of education degree from Houston College for Negroes (Texas Southern University) in Houston. She devoted 37 years of her life to teaching many young people, 11 years in Cedar Lake Elementary School and 26 years in the Van Vleck Independent School District. She was a member of the Olive Leaf Chapter of Order of Eastern Star 219, the Progressive Order of Pilgrims and American Woodman. She also served as vice president of the Matagorda County Friendship Church. Outside her teaching career, Mrs. Sidney was active at Shiloh Baptist Church, where she was the president of the music department. In the Lincoln Southern District Association, she was corresponding secretary for ministers’ and deacons’ wives. She was also a member of the executive board of the Teacher of Congress of Christian Education and was a Baptist Training Union organizer. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Milton and Elizabeth Sidney of Cedar Lane; two step-sons, Gilbert Sidney of Minnesota and James Sidney of Bay City; a brother, John L. Bonner of Cedar Lake; a granddaughter and grandson, Chaya T. Sidney and Jared A. Sidney of Cedar Lane; two goddaughters, Dr. Rayola Cartwright and Marsha Grice of Houston; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buster Sidney, who died Sept. 19. 1979. Pallbearers will be R. L. Woodard, Alex Sidney III, Johnny Sidney, Enoch Brown Jr., the Rev. Carl Grice and Phillip Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be John L. Bonner, Calvin Mitchell, Carlos Sidney, the Rev. Dan Ross, Melvin Sidney, Alex Sidney, Jr., and Daniel Gooding. Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, Bay City.

Funeral services for William Sidney, Sr., 85, of Cedar Lane, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2012, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 244 CR 160, off FM 521, Cedar Lane, TX 77415, with the Rev. Michael Riddick, II eulogist. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 2 until 8 p.m., Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Duncan Roberts Funeral Home, 2500 Avenue C, Bay City, TX 77414. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 until 7 p.m. He was born in Cedar Lane, Texas, April 1, 1927, and passed away June 19, 2012, in Bay City. He was lifelong resident of Cedar Lane where he farmed cotton and vegetables for many years. Later in life he worked as a construction foreman at the various chemical plants and retired in 1988. Survivors include: his two daughters, Dorothy Sidney Thomas of Lake Jackson and Mary Sidney Carter (Mel) of Fulshear; three sons, William Sidney, Jr. of Cedar Lane, Henry Sidney (Lena) of Clear Lake, and Buster Sidney (Gloria) of Missouri City; one sister, Iver Mae Johnson of Dallas, and one brother, Kermit Sidney, Sr. (Hattie) of Los Angeles, California; a lifelong devoted friend, Willie Sidney Williams; 35 grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
