Thelma Roberta Spiller Powell Thelma Roberta Spiller Powell closed her eyes in her last sleep on Tuesday, March 11, 1997, at 11:20 p. m. in Memorial Southwest Hospital in Houston. While physically active, Mrs. Powell was a faithful member at West Point Baptist Church in Galveston where she served on the Usher Board and was a member of the Mission Circle. She also held membership in the Elks, Eastern Stars and Courts of Calanthe. In 1995, at the end of a lengthy stay at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galveston, Mrs. Powell moved to Houston. She lived in Houston for nearly two years. Culminating her last stay in Memorial Southwest Hospital, the Lord took from her all pain and sorrow. We thank our heavenly Father for the life she lived among us, and for taking her to the land of Glory as He has promised to all the faithful. Mrs. Powell leaves to mourn two sisters Nellie Brown and Phema Woodard of Cedar Lane; nephews Joe Dennis Brown of Cedar Lane, Enoch Brown, Jr. of Houston; five nieces Thelma L. Brossard, Gloria Brown, Rayola Cartwright of Houston, Ethel Ward of Cedar Lane, Barbara Akins of Harbor City, California, 10 great nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday, March 15 at West Point Baptist Church at 3003 Avenue M in Galveston. The remains will be brought to Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedar Lane for Viewing and burial at 2 p. m. Saturday, March 15.

Funeral service for Christine Mangum Price, 70, of Bay City, Texas will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Bay City Sports Complex, 2400 FM 3156, Bay City, Texas 77414 with Dr. T. L. Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane, Texas. Visitation will be on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, 2500 Ave. C, Bay City, Texas 77414. Christine was born on January 5, 1950 in Bay City, Texas to Mack Mangum and Sarah Grice Mangum and passed away peacefully on Friday, December 4, 2020 in Arcola, Texas surrounded by family. Preceding Christine in death are her parents; one sister, Barbara Swannegan; and two brothers, Ben Mangum and I. J. Grice Left to cherish memories are her daughter, Helen (Donnie) Times; son, Andre (Teri) Price; four sisters, Evelyn (Abraham) Jones, Janie Mae (Quinnon) Casey, Florence John, and Arlene Wilson; one brother, Henry (Patricia) Mangum Sr.; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Henry “Ricky” Rivera, 58, of Cedar Lane will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998 at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel, Rev. E. S. Fields will be officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane. Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home. Rivera was born in Key West, Fla. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 1940 to Joseph Rivera and Aida Ellis Rivera and died Friday, Sept. 25 at UTMB Hospital in Galveston. He grew up in the community of his birth where he attended public school. He was a good friend and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Rivera is survived by his adopted father, Alfonso Adams of Savannah, Ga.; step-mother, Arie Anna Harrison of Cedar Lane; step-sisters, Willie Marie Williams and James of Cedar Lane, Bertha Edison and Robert of Carrollton, and Linda Griggs and Mack of Houston; step-brothers, Howard Harrison and Dorothy of Santa Maria, Calif., and Bobby Adams of Key West; also a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and a family of friends. Pallbearers will be he Herman Johnson, George Spencer, Arthur Jackson, Howard Ross, Sr., James Williams and Dave Ward, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Harrison, Williams Sidney, Jr., Henry Sidney, Bobby Adams, Buster Sidney, Chester Kemp, Sr., and Eugene Fields, Sr. Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Rev. Carlyle Roberson Sr., 78, of Wadsworth died in Alvin June 11. Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Alonia Williams, Mrs. Eliza Merchant, Mrs. Vinella Fletcher, Mrs. Eva Mae Williams and Mrs. Mageline Barnes, all of Alvin; sons, Lee Andrew and Rev. Carlyle Roberson Jr. of Wadsworth, Thomas Roberson Sr. of Bay City; one adopted daughter, Mrs. Mildred Fletcher of Houston; brother, S. L. Roberson of Houston, 46 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, Saturday, June 14 at 2 p. m. with Rev. A. Franklin officiating. Interment service will be held at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane. Pallbearers are: Stephen Barnes, Thomas Fletcher, James Roberson, Charlie Roberson, Donald Fletcher and Ronnie Dan Roberson. Arrangements made by Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Lee Andrew Roberson, Sr., 75, of Bay City, was held at 11 a. m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City, with Rev. K. J. Griggs officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane. Roberson was born in Bay City, Texas, Nov. 17, 1921, to Carlyle Roberson and Harriett Henderson Roberson, and passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at the V. A. Hospital in Houston. He was a member of Mother Zion Baptist Church where he served faithfully. Among his religious affiliations included his ordination as deacon in June, 1958, a member of the Pastor’s Aide, and one of the organizers of the Celestial Choir. His business involvement for many years was the much loved “Roberson’s Barbecue.” Survivors include seven sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. James Roberson (Nina), Horace Roberson (Jean), Lee Roberson, Jr. (Nancy), Herbert Smith (Dorothy), Jim Smith (Dorothy Lee), Robert Smith (Margaret) and Floyd Smith (Mary). Also one sister, Mrs. Mary M. Barnes, and two brothers, Thomas Roberson, Sr. and Rev. Carlyle Roberson, Sr. Other survivors include 26 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorotherine Roberson, five sisters, Alonia Williams, Eliza Merchant, Vinella Fletcher, Eva Mae Williams and Almata Roberson, and one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Smith. Active pallbearers were Horace Roberson, Jr., Ronnie Roberson, James Carl Roberson, Robert Smith, Jr., Roderick Smith, William Smith, Otis Smith and Labradford Smith. Alice Mae Sidney Funeral services for Alice Mae Sidney, 69, of Bay City, are scheduled for 11 a. m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with the Rev. C. W. Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane. Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel and from 10 to 11 a. m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Mrs. Sidney was born July 26, 1924, in Bay City to Phillip and Wilkie Franklin Edison and died May 23, 1994, in Matagorda General Hospital. She was a member of the Baptist church, the Lincoln Southern District Association, the Order of Eastern Star and the Courts of Calanthe. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Alex Coleman Sidney Jr. of Bay City; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Daisy Louise and John Davis of Dallas, Barbara Jean and Dr. Morris McDonald, Ethel Gladys and Johnnie Batties, Margaret Marideth Sidney and Sherlyn Sidney Jackson all of Bay City; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Don Ray Sidney of Bay City, Alex and Vicki Sue Sidney III and Bruce Wayne and Darnell Sidney, all of Van Vleck; 10 grandchildren, Terence Vaughn Sidney, John Alexander Murray, Adrain Edward Murray, Anaca Michelle Davis, Natasha Nichole Sidney, Alexis Victoria Sidney, Lowell Kent Davis, Fallyn Salicia Sidney, Alex Carlos Sidney IV and Ezra Charles Sidney; a great-grandson; Jalen Sidney; a brother, Gifford Edison of Brazoria; an aunt, Helen Edison of Bay City; seven sisters-in-law, Gertrude Edison and Carrie Edison, both of Live Oak, Beatrice Edison of Brazoria, Ada Edison of Texas City, Maudarine Fields of Cedar Lane, Alice Sidney of Houston and Delores Sidney of Galveston; three brothers-in-law, Carlos Sidney of Campton, Melvin Sidney of Galveston, the Rev. She was born in Cedar Lane, Thursday, April 30, 1925, to Ira Griggs and Nealie Tone Griggs, and was called to rest to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 25, 2003, at her residence in Cedar Lane. Survivors include: one son, Robert Edison and Bertha of Carrollton, Texas; her mother, Nealie Tone Griggs of Cedar Lane; two sisters, Mary Jane Griggs of Galveston, and Louise Johnson of LaMarque, and three brothers, Dennis Griggs of Cedar Lane, Jimmie Griggs of Houston, and Albert Griggs of Maryland; also four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several great-grands, a host of other relatives and friends.
