Freddie Allen, Sr.

Funeral services for Freddie Allen., 58, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Nov. 13 at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Visitation hours are Monday afternoon and there will be a wake Monday from 7 – 9 p. m. The body will lie in state at the church Nov. 13 from 1-2 p. m.

Mr. Allen was born March 23, 1926 in Cedar Lane, and died Nov. 9, 1984. He was the son of Walter Allen and the former Vinealla Henderson.

He was a member of the Masonic Enterprise Lodge No. 1260 and Carpenter Local No. 1084.

Survivors include: daughters, Teresa Diane Allen of Van Vleck and Sally Torres of Bay City; sons, Freddie Allen, Jr., of Van Vleck; brother, councilman Frank Henderson of Bay City; one grandson and a host of relatives.

Pallbearers include C. H. Singletary, Eldred Ray Thymes, Thompson Boone, James Price, Willie B. Price, Jr., Earl Louis Price and Clarence Brown.

Honorary Pallbearers include Freddie Allen, Jr., and Councilman Frank Henderson.

Green’s Mortuary are in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Bernice Alexander Anderson, 63, of Bay City, will be held Saturday, June 24, 2000, at 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, Bay City, with the Rev. T. L. Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery, Cedar Lane.

She was born in Magnolia, Texas, August 11, 1936, to Lexie Alexander, Sr. and Tennessee Parks Alexander, and passed away Monday, June 19, 2000, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Rogers Henry Anderson, Jr. and Gladys of Bay City, one sister and brother-in-law, Ora Lee Hawkins and Andrew of LaMarque; and three brothers and two sister-in-law, Henry Alexander and Bevelyn of Danciger, Pierce Alexander and Leonteen of Old Ocean, and Anthony Alexander of Houston. Also two grandchildren, Tomara and Rogers, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rachel Hawkins Austin

Funeral services for Rachel Hawkins Austin, 86, of Cedar Lane, are scheduled for 11 a. m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with the Rev. C. W. Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. Friday at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel and from 10 to 11 a. m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church.

Mrs. Austin was born Sept. 24, 1906 in Matagorda County to the late Hammie and the late Angel West Hawkins and died Sept. 23, 1993.

Survivors include five daughters and a son-in-law, Ruby Dale and Emma Dale, both of Bay City, Leola and Eugene Fields of Cedar Lane, LaVerne Turner of Houston and Sophie Franklin of Cedar Lane; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Myrtle Austin Jr. of Freeport and Cornelious and Irene Austin of Philadelphia, Pa.; 24 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren, 74 great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jessie Parks of Bay City, Margaret Austin of Cedar Lane, Lucinda Grice of Freeport; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Wilbert Dale, William Dale, Russell Dale, Lewis Dale, Emerson Dale, Billy Dale Jr., Ira Edison Sr., Larry Fields, Eugene Fields Jr., Reginald Griggs and Kermit Campbell.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hammie Hawkins in 1959; her stepfather, Ben Williams in 1978; her mother, Angel West Williams in 1981; a son, Russell Mack in 1993 and a sister Polly and a brother Lewis Williams.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

Robert Lee “Sonny” Austin, 54, of Cedar Lane, died at Parkland Hospital in Dallas October 8. Survivors are: sister Mrs. Laura Ethel Chandler of Houston; aunts, Willie Mosley of Bay City. Mrs. Olevia Boone of Linville, Mrs. Lawnie Lee Franklin of Cedar Lane, Mrs. Esther Boston of Edna, Mrs. Emmaline Simmons of Brazoria, Mrs. Christian Harrison of Galveston and Mrs. Johnnie Mae Thomas of Cedar Lane; uncles, Roscoe Henderson of Cedar Lane, Melvin Sidney of Galveston, Edmond Austin and T. J. Austin of Brazoria, Neal Austin, Jr. of Cedar Lane, Crawford and Herman Austin of Cedar Lane, Sgt. 1^st Class Ellis Austin of Germany and Cary Austin of Seaside, Calif.; nephews, Joseph Chandler, Trevor Chandler and Jesse Chandler of Houston. Funeral services will be at Shiloh Baptist Church, Cedar Lane, Saturday, October 11 at 1 p. m. with Rev. H. T. Aldridge officiating. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery, Cedar Lane. Funeral services for Mary Magdalene Roberson Barnes, 67, of Alvin, will be Saturday, February 1, 2003 at 11 a.m., at Southpark Baptist Church, 1718 South Johnson Street, Alvin, Texas, with the Rev. George Hill, pastor, and the Rev. Carlyle Roberson, Jr., eulogist. Burial will be at the Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 until 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, and from 6 until 9 p.m. at Southpark Baptist Church.

She was born in Matagorda County, Texas, Thursday, October 17, 1935, to Carlyle Roberson, Sr. and Harriett Henderson Roberson, and passed away Sunday, January 26, 2003, at Memorial Hermann Hospital, Houston, Texas.

Survivors include: husband, Thomas Barnes, Sr. of Alvin; two daughters, Subrina Barnes, and Serena Barnes, both of Alvin; six sons, Thomas Barnes, Jr. of Crosby, Roy Barnes, Sr., George Barnes and Troy Barnes, all of Alvin, Stephen Barnes of Missouri City, and Nelson Barnes of Lincoln, Nebraska; 17 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three adopted daughters, Debra, Connie and Louise, and one brother, the Rev. Carlyle Roberson, Jr. (Martha) all of Alvin; also a host of other relatives and friends.

Her sons will serve as pallbearers.

Hattie Boone

In Matagorda County, Cedar Lane, Texas on October 20, 1902 a wonderful blessing was bestowed on the lives of Nelson and Tamer Brown through the birth of their daughter, Hattie.

Hattie grew up in the Cedar Lane community and also attended school there. She confessed Christ at an early age at the Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, where she was a devoted member until she moved to Galveston.

After moving to Galveston as a young woman, she united with the West Point Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health began to fail. Her transition from this life to life eternal came on Thursday, April 24, 1997.

She was a very loving, generous and caring person. She leaves to cherish the beautiful memories of her, one sister-in-law Lorena Brown, of Cedar Lane a Goddaughter, Ruby Williams, of Los Angeles, Calif., four nieces, Rosie Lee Kemp and Pinkie Mae Johnson of Cedar Lane, Minnie Ola Johnson of Sweeny and Dorthy Wright of Brazoria, three nephews, John Brown of Angleton, Nelson Brown of Sweeny and Robert Brown of Galveston, and a host of great-nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are for Sis. Hattie Boone will be Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with Rev. Kerry Tillmon of West Point Baptist Church officiating. Sis. Boone will lie in state at Shiloh from 1 to 2 p. m. on Wednesday. Sis. Boone will be viewed at the chapel of Green’s Mortuary from 12 to 9 p. m. on Tuesday April 29, 1997.

Pallbearers will be George Lemon, Robert Kemp, Eugene Johnson, Vaughan Shelton, Melvin Woodard, Andrea Lemon, Clyde Allen and Alan Brown.

Funeral Arrangements are with Green’s Mortuary, Bay City.
