Linda Stuhrenberg Wallis

Linda June Stuhrenberg Wallis, 64, of
Palacios, Texas passed away peacefully on March 17, 2018.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21st from 4-6pm
at the Palacios Funeral Home followed by a Rosary Service at
7pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Thursday, March
22nd at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Rev.
Gary Janak as officiant and will be followed by interment at
Hawley Cemetery under the direction of Palacios Funeral
Home.
Born on June 11, 1953, in Palacios,
Texas, Linda June Stuhrenberg Wallis was the third of four
children to the late Edwin and Helen Stuhrenberg. She was
raised on the family farm in the Carancahua community and
graduated in 1971 from Palacios High School. Linda attended
Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and completed
her Dental Hygiene degree in Houston at the University of
Texas Medical Branch, graduating at the top of her class. In
1974, Linda married her high school sweetheart and moved to
Baton Rouge. After a short time in Louisiana, they returned
to Palacios where Linda worked as a dental hygienist and
became actively involved in the community. In 1979, the next
chapter of Linda and Craig’s life began with the birth of
their son Kyle and two years later daughter Courtney on
Valentine’s Day. During this time, they took advantage of an
opportunity to invest in the shrimping industry and Craig
honored Linda by naming one of their first boats “Linda
June.” In the years that followed, Linda’s role as a wife
and mother became the center of her life and she retired
after 18 years in dental hygiene to focus on her role at
home. Linda continued to serve the Palacios community as an
active member and later an honorary member of the Harmonie
Club, a member of the Alapha Club, a devoted parishioner of
St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and an adult leader and
lifelong supporter of the 4-H Program. Linda seized every
opportunity to connect both family and friends by
coordinating trips to snow ski, water ski, scuba dive or
simply lounge by the beach. Her adventurous spirit only grew
stronger as she became “Mimi” to her four grandchildren.
Linda is survived by her husband of 44 years Craig Alan
Wallis of Palacios; son Kyle Maxwell Wallis and wife Andrea
of El Campo; daughter Courtney Leigh Wallis Kenner and
husband Jeff of Fulshear; grandchildren Riley and Abby
Wallis and Whittney and Brooks Kenner; brothers W.A. (Bill)
Stuhrenberg and wife Gerry and Marvin Stuhrenberg and wife
Joan; sister Teresa Adams and husband Jim.
Linda was proud of her contributions
towards the establishment of the “Leafs for Life” Program in
support of the Palacios Community Medical Center. Therefore,
in lieu of flowers, donations may be mailed to the Palacios
Community Medical Center, 311 Green, Palacios, TX 77465. For
more information, call 361-972-2511 or visit
www.palacioshospital.net. In addition, Linda enjoyed
supporting Saint Philip the Apostle Catholic School in El
Campo where two of her grandchildren attend and would like
to also provide the option to offer donations to the SPS
Endowment Fund in Linda’s memory. Donations may be mailed to
302 W. Church Street, El Campo, TX 77437. For more
information, call 979-543-2901 or visit
www.stphilipschool.org.
The family would like to extend a special
thank you to Annie Lopez, Cathy Green, Shirley Quintero, and

Donald Roy Wertz
April 18, 1914 - December 8, 2017
Don Wertz, a Bay City resident from 1947 thru 1971, has at last
been carried to the bosom of Abraham, at the age of 103.
During his tenure here, he owned and operated Bayland Dairy,
then upon the death of his father, inherited the John Deere
dealership,
which he ran successfully for the next 20 years. He and his wife
Betty served as choir director and organist, respectively, at
First Christian Church. Mr. Wertz served two terms on the Bay
City school board, and was active in the Rotary Club. As both
Don and Betty were trained singers, they were customarily the
tenor and soprano soloists in the Bay City Community Chorus’
annual performances of Handel’s Messiah. In 1971 he sold the
dealership; he and Betty then went as teaching missionaries for
a year in Thailand. Upon their return they retired to property
he had purchased between Shiner and Moulton, where he began his
ranching career. As they had done in Bay City, the two took over
the choral duties in the Shiner United Methodist Church.
Betty passed away in 1999, and he married Hertha Buske, a
widowed member of the Methodist Church choir, a union that
lasted until 2003. Don lived on alone in his remote ranch house
until the age of 98, when advancing frailty necessitated his
move to College Place Assisted Living in Schulenburg. His
physical condition continued to decline and by age 102, he was
taken into the home of Rose and Peewee Cardenas, who took
exceptionally attentive and loving care of him until the end.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Garfield Wertz and
Myrl Monaher Wertz; and his sister, Susan; all of who are
interred in Cedarvale.
He is survived by his sons, Donald Jr. of Austin, and John
Allison (Al) and his wife Sharon and their children, Alicia and
Allan and his wife Claire, all of Houston. Also his “second
family”, the children of Hertha Buske: son Bobby and wife Mary
and their children, and daughter Irene and her husband Gene, and
their children.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, December 30, 2017
at 11 a.m. in the Shiner United Methodist Church.
Any donations should be made to the Juvenile Diabetes
Foundation.

Grace Elise Wuthrich
April 27, 1964 - April 12, 2018
Grace Elise Wuthrich, 53, of Pierce, TX, passed away Thursday,
April 12, 2018. She was born April 27, 1964 in Wharton, TX to
Edward Emil and Geraldine Rae Wuthrich. She graduated high
school in El Campo, TX and went on to complete her Bachelor of
Science degree at Texas A&M.
She is survived by her beloved family, son, Karsten Falke and
daughter, Elsa Jopling, both of Pierce; her mother, Geraldine
Wuthrich; sisters and brothers-in-law, Melissa and Robert Baker
of Pierce, Carol and Kelly Teague of Bay City, Rachel and Tim
Brown of Maypearl; and her six nephews and nieces, Robert and
Laura Baker, Erin and William Teague, and Brantley and Ainsley
Brown.
Grace was preceded in death by her father, Edward Wuthrich.
Grace was a teacher at Bay City High School, instructing in
Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy and Robotics.
Grace expressed her life-long love of horses through education
and training of both the horses and their riders. She further
demonstrated her talents through frequent horse showings and
competitions in expos across the southwest. Throughout their
childhoods, Grace fostered this same love and appreciation of
animals and farm life in her children, nephews and nieces,
teaching them about kindness towards and respect for the animals
and their husbandry.
Throughout her teaching career in Boling, Calhoun, and Bay City,
Grace found such a Godly purpose in her opportunity to influence
the lives of numerous students, sharing her excitement for
science and engineering disciplines, earning the respect of her
peers and superiors as well as the love and admiration of her
students.
Perhaps one of Grace’s greatest loves, however, was her church
and the family and friends who filled her life there, and were
so dear to her. As a member of Christ Lutheran Church in El
Campo, Grace was an integral member of both the vocal and bell
choirs, as well as accompanying worship services with her
guitar. She sang each week, shoulder to shoulder with the very
family and friends who, as one would have guessed, also held her
so dear in their hearts.
Grace leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity and immense
love for all those around her. She will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo, from 5
p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in
El Campo, starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018.
Interment will follow immediately at Garden of Memories Cemetery
in El Campo.
Memorials and donations may be made in Grace’s honor, to the
Christ Lutheran Music Department.
