Marion "Fuzz" Talasek Sr., 74" went home to be with Jesus on November 23, 2013. He was born a triplet July 24, 1939 in Rosenberg, Texas to William and Carrie Talasek. He grew up in Rosenberg with his triplet brothers Marvin and Melvin, brother Bill and sister Evelyn. Marion graduated from Lamar High School and attended Wharton County Junior College. He started in the construction business in 1958 and retired from his own company Talasek Construction in 2012. He also had careers in the postal business, commercial fishing industry, pipeline work in Alaska, and superintendent in the nuclear industry. His passion was mission field work in Mexico and Brazil and ministering to many other people. He was a caring and generous man who loved Jesus and spending time with his family. Marion was married to Lavone Talasek for 53 years. He is preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Rawlings and brothers Bill Talasek and Melvin Talasek. He is survived by his wife Lavonne Talasek, daughter Pam Bowles and husband Keith, son Pete Talasek and wife Cydney, son Jonathan Talasek, grandchildren Justin Talasek and wife Kelley, Amanda Lee and husband Chad, Jakeb Talasek, Candace Rooth and husband Jeremy, Chad, Sara, Nick, Emily and Matthew Talasek, ten great-grandchildren, two sister-in-laws and countless nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Friday, November, 29, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00pm. Services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Abundant Life Fellowship Church 1900 Hamman Rd., Bay City, Texas at 12:00 Noon. Frank Shaw Taylor, 76, a resident of Bay City since 1913 passed away Friday morning at the Matagorda General Hospital. Survivors include: wife, Mrs. Frances Parr Taylor of Bay City; 2 sons, Don Jean Taylor of Bay City and Dr. Vann S. Taylor of Temple; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 2, at 2 p. m. at the First United Methodist Church in Bay City. Taylor Succumbs Frank Shaw Taylor, 76, long-time civic leader, died Thursday night at Matagorda General Hospital. Mr. Taylor, well-known local mortician, had been admitted Monday for treatment but had been in ill health for some time. Services have been scheduled for 2 p. m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Frances Parr Taylor, Bay City; son, Don Jean Taylor, Bay City and Dr. Vann S. Taylor, Temple, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Taylor was born Dec. 3, 1896 in Weimar. He came to Bay City in 1913 and entered the retail furniture business with his brother, Seth. He became interested in the mortician field and arranged for the company to spread into a combination furniture store and funeral home. He was a graduate of the Dallas School of Mortuary Science and held both funeral director’s license and mortician’s license. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home is one of the oldest establishments in Matagorda County, first founded in 1906. Mr. Taylor joined the business in 1913 and had continued to play an active role right up to the time of his illness. Through the years the firm had gained a reputation for its excellent emergency system, providing 24-hour service, seven days a week throughout the year. Mr. Taylor was extremely active in civic affairs. He was a member of the official board and served as treasurer of the First United Methodist Church, a past president of the Wesley Class and president of Bay City Federal Savings & Loan Association. He was a past master and 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and also a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and 50-year member. He had served as president of the Retail Furniture Association of Texas and was a past director of the Texas Funeral Directors & Embalmers Association. Also, he was on the board of control of the National Selected Morticians, a director of the Knife and Fork Club, with more than 30 years of perfect attendance. He served as a member of the Monument Builders of the Southwest, was a director of the Chamber of Commerce and served during World War II as chairman of the Matagorda County Red Cross and director of the Bay City Country Club. He served 15 years on the Country Cub committee that sponsored an annual golf tournament and was elected to the Bay City Commandery of Bay City Council 251, R&SM, was a member of Bay City Chapter 315 R&SM, a member of El Mina Temple of Galveston and Gulf Coast Shrine Club. Funeral services for Korah Belle Taylor, 91, of Bay City were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble. Mrs. Taylor died April 24, 1994, in Humble. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star of Bay City. She was a resident of Bay City for 44 years. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Clarence Phillips; a granddaughter, two great-grandchildren and many friends. Robert Taylor, 71, of Cape Carancahua laid down his working tools and went to be with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Robert was born on January 8, 1942 in Houston, Texas to the late Robert Lee and Iva Marie Hatcher Taylor. Robert was an avid fisherman, spending much time in his backyard fishing off of his pier. He loved to remodel his homes with his loving boss by his side, his wife Sheila. He was a beloved member of the Blessing Masonic Lodge #411. Robert served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. Robert never met a stranger. He was a good family man, loving his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Robert is survived by: his loving wife of 31 years, Sheila J. Taylor; children, Ruby E. Alexander, Robert Daniel Taylor II, Dana Suzanne Gerica, Jennifer Earnhardt, Rebecca Lyon, James W. Earnhardt; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Ladd and husband James M. Ladd and numerous other loving relatives. Funeral services for Robert E. “Bob” Terry were held at 11 a. m. Saturday, September 10, in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. L. W. Israel and Rev. J. R. Gwin officiating. Masonic graveside services and interment were held in the Palacios Cemetery. Son of the late Emma Luna Terry and William Suggs Terry, he was born in Airmount, Mississippi, on February 28, 1890. A veteran of World War I and a former resident of Palacios, he had lived in Karnes City the past year. He retired in 1952 after 30 years service as a Rural Mail carrier here. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodges of Palacios and Blessing, Knights Templar, Order of the Eastern Star, and V. F. W. He died Thursday, September 8, in the Larkwood Convalescent Home in Kenedy. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Terry of Karnes City; daughter, Joyce Davis of Mineral, Texas; step-daughter, Linda Shaw of San Antonio; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Annie Doris Thomas, 82, of Palacios, Texas, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013. She was born February 9, 1931 in Altair, Texas to Melvin and Rosie Lee Polk. Sis. Thomas was a hard working lady, her employment included private duty care and later in life devoted her time at home to gardening, caring for her pets, helping others and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was very special to her family and will be deeply missed by all her knew her. Sis. Thomas accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior under the leadership of Rev. Leroy Monroe at Pilgrim Rose Baptist Church in Palacios, Texas. She served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord. Not one day went by without her saying, “Thank You Lord.” Sis. Thomas is preceded in death by: her husband, Arthur Thomas; her two brothers, Glen and Robert Lee Polk; her sister, Velma Jedkins; her daughter, Betty Hudgins Rashford; and grandson, Tyrone L. Hudgins-Giles. She leaves loving memories to be cherished by: her three sisters, Olivia King (Henry), Hattie Edwards, Bessie Boone, and one brother, Dwight Polk; seven children, Patricia Hudgins Washington, Barbara Hudgins, Julie Jones, Rhonda Jenkins, Tamara Thomas, Carla Thomas, and Carlton Thomas; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends. Don Thompson, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away June 19, 2013 in the Methodist Hospital in Houston after a brief illness. He was born January 6, 1946 in Orlando, Florida to Gertrude Greene Hornbostel. He was a resident of Bay City for 52 years. He was proud to be a Texan and said, “He got here as soon as he could.” He served his country proudly for three years in the U.S. Army from 1963 – 1966. He worked for Celanese Chemical for 33 years as an operator, member of fire and rescue, trainer, and served on many other aspects of safety. In the last four years his joy came from being on his hay farm in the country. He had been making big plans to expand the business and was excited to move on and make that happen. He is survived by: the love of his life, Anne; children, Donald L. Thompson Jr. and wife Ginny, Tressa Leadford and husband Tim, Dena Stovall and husband Ronnie, Kenneth Bledsoe, and Amanda Baxter; grandchildren, Ashley, Corey, Valeri, Shelby, Zachary, Nikkolai, Kirsten, Colton, Kaylee, Shannon, and Sean, three great grandchildren: Lennon, Miguel, and Mia; and many, many friends, some of whom he called brother. Jane Rochelle Thompson, colored, eighty years old, who was born during slavery (1855) died here from heart trouble Wednesday. "Aunt Jane" as everybody called her, has been a valuable and splendid law abiding servant in Matagorda most all of her life and she will be missed by everyone for there is not a white family hardly in town that she hasn't nursed their children, worked in their homes or laundered their clothes for them which she could do so beautifully. This she continued to do until only a short time ago when her health demanded she give up her splendid service and her sister, Fannie, who is just fine and who worked by her side from day to day, took charge and nursed her to the end. These old servants are fast passing into history.

Maxine Lively Thumann Funeral services for Maxine Lively Thumann, 57, of Bay City were held Saturday at First United Methodist Church where the Rev. Leslie LeGrand and the Rev. Bill Leediker officiated. Burial was at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Mrs. Thumann was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Houston, and died at 12:10 am Aug. 30, 1985, at her residence. A residence of Bay City for 45 years, she was a member of First United Methodist Church and Susana Wesley Class at church. Survivors include her husband, Carl Thumann of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Fred Toepfer of Raleigh, N. C.; a daughter, Margaret Lively of Austin; a son-in-law, Michael Sowers of Austin; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael T. and Claudia Lively of Pasadena; two sisters, Bea Miears and Gene Vaughn, both of Houston; two brothers, Red Harrell of Matagorda and Jack Harrell of Houston; and four grandchildren. Phil Thurmond, 69, of West Columbia, TX passed away in his sleep on April 14, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Sugarland, TX where he succumbed to his battle with lung cancer. Mr. Thurmond was born August 23, 1943 in Wharton, TX to the late Robert Lee Thurmond and Chedeva Bell Beverly Thurmond. He leaves behind to sisters, Nadine Sadler of Montezuma Creek, UT and Darlene Noska of Bay City, TX and sister-in-law, who became a sister, Gay Lynn Thurmond of Blessing, TX. Mr. Thurmond also had a younger brother, Arthur Robert Thurmond, who preceded him in death. He leaves behind three nephews, Derrick Thurmond of Blessing, TX, Robert Thurmond of El Maton, TX and Christopher Walls of Bay City, TX, two nieces Candace Davis of Monticello, UT and Kimberly Walls of Sweeny, TX, three great nephews and three great nieces. He was raised in Iago on the family farm and graduated from Boling High School. Throughout the years he stayed in contact with his high school friends, who were very important to him. Mr. Thurmond resided throughout his life in Iago, Wharton, Bay City, Brazoria and West Columbia. Visitation will be held at Taylor Bros. Patricia Marentze Thyssen-Vaughan, better known as “Patsy Vaughan,” passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013 after a sudden illness. Clarence Lee Tise of Edna entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 26, 2012. Clarence was born in Eagle Lake, Texas on January 25, 1941 to Lee “Doc” Tise and Etta Mae Kessler Tise. Clarence grew up in and around Eagle Lake, Texas. He graduated from Garwood High School then later attended Lee College in Baytown, Texas. Clarence worked in the gas and chemical refinery industry his entire career. He retired from Celanese Chemical Company as the Director of Maintenance after many years of loyal service. His life revolved around his family and the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved doing both with his son, Johnny. Clarence assisted with many outdoor activities for the handicapped as well as disabled veterans and Wounded Warriors organization. He was passionate about gardening and he and his wife, Barbara, shared the bounty of their garden with family and friends. His large family brought him great joy. Clarence was preceded in death by: his parents, Doc and Etta Tise; and all of his brothers, Sammy Tise, Charles Roy “Buddy” Tise, Bobby Earl Tise, Joe Tise and James Ray Tise, who died as an infant. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Smith Tise, whom he married June 18, 2005. Clarence and Barbara were the best of friends, enjoying football, fishing, and gardening together. He was very proud of their blended family. Also surviving are: daughters, Mellony Jean Tise Schein and her son Stephen, Tina Lynette Tise Hopkins (Robbie) and their children, Kaci, Derrick, Jennifer, Robert and Rebecca; son, Johnny Wayne Tise (Sonya) and their children, Trevor, Madeline and Leeann; stepdaughter, Kathy Joan Tise Miska (Al) and their children, Samantha, and Layci; stepson, Bertice Lee Tise (La Arnie) and their children, Steven and Joshua; sisters, Nettie Elizabeth Tise Barfield (Clarence “Nuna”) and their sons, Jack and Michael; Gracie Jean Tise Pearson (Roger) and their daughter Carolyn. There are also a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends, and family who loved Clarence dearly. Jim Frank Tobola Sr., of Edna, Texas, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013, at the age of 97. He was born August 29, 1916, in St. John’s, Texas to the late Ignac and Hermina Jurica Tobola. Jim served in World War II as a B25 tailgunner. He also was a farmer and rancher. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed dearly. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Maxwell (David) of Bay City; sons, Jim Tobola Jr. (Marilyn) of Fayettville, Michael Tobola (Kay) of Alvin, Mark Tobola (Geraldine) of Edna, Gerald Tobola (Debbie) of Round Top and Robert Tobola (Elizabeth) of Sugarland. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michelle, Bryan, Lane, Jim III, Matt, Laura, Tammy Kay, Jennifer, Timothy, Russell, Ellen, Christopher, Jeffrey, Lucas and Scott; and 18 great-grandchildren. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 55 years, Katherine Ellen Vaclavick Tobola; sister, Olga Booth; brothers, Victor Tobola, Cyril Tobola, Roman Tobola and Robert Tobola. A Rosary was recited on Monday, October 14, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna TX. A Funeral Mass was held Tuesday October 15, 2013 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Reverend Michael Petering officiating. Burial with full military honors was held at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery in Blessing TX. Pallbearers were his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Jackson County Friends of Elder Citizens 501 N. Wells Edna, Texas 77957. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Kathryn Tolleson, 92, were held Saturday, January 17, from the Palacios Funeral Home, with Rev. Clinton Harris of the Methodist Church conducting the final rites. She was born in Jackson, Miss. January 28, 1867, the daughter of Millie Catherine and Bateman Fisk. When she was three years old, her parents moved to Hallettsville, traveling overland by ox cart. January 8, 1890, she became the bride of Argyle Tolleson. Four children, all of whom survive, were born of this union. The family moved to Palacios in October, 1905, joining the few pioneer families then living here. Mr. Tolleson preceded his wife in death June 15, 1923. She made her home with her son, T. A. Tolleson and family, where she passed away January 15 following a lingering illness. Survivors are her children Mrs. Albert Hausendufel of Victoria; William A. Tolleson of Owings Mills, Md.; Mrs. B. M. Flynn of Dallas, and T. A. Tolleson of Palacios; one sister Mrs. U. A. Wheeler of Abilene, nine grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Michael Flynn, Billy Tolleson, Sammy Tolleson, Tommie Tolleson and Magnus Mertz. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery.

James L. Townsend, 68, a resident of Van Vleck passed away September 13. He was a member of the Bay City Masonic Lodge No. 865 A. F. & A. M., Bay City Chapter Eastern Star No. 380, and had previously retired after many years of employment with Otis Russell Drilling Co. Survivors include wife: Hazel of Van Vleck; 1 daughter, Betty Ann Crisp of Highland; 1 son, Carl S. Townsend of Bay City; 1 brother, Guy R. BAY CITY - Amelia Treviño, 81, of Bay City passed away January 23, 2014. She was born August 17, 1932 in Edna, TX to the late Manuel & Victoria Treviño Figueroa. Amelia was a longtime resident of Bay City, and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was best known for her strong work ethic, generous heart, and tireless giving to others while she did without. Amelia was a devoted wife of 60 years to husband Tony Treviño, and also a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 60 years: Antonio "Tony" Treviño; 2 daughters: Rachel Treviño-Garcia and Mary Helen Martinez; son: Steve Raul Treviño; 7 grand children; and 5 great grandchildren. Amelia was preceded in death by her parents; son: Tony Herrera Treviño; sister: Luisa Alfaro; and 4 brothers: Andrew, Manuel, Pete, & Tony Figueroa. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, January 27, 2014 at the funeral home with a rosary being held at 6:30 PM. The mass will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Msgr. Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Rosalio Trevino, 90, of Matagorda passed away July 30, 2013. He was born August 30, 1922 in Mercedes, Texas to the late Macedonio Trevino and Guillerma Martinez Trevino. As a young man in his 20s he worked at local supermarket delivering groceries. He then started working on small farms as a farm hand. He continued that line of work after moving to Matagorda County, until going to work for Precinct 2 for Matagorda County. During his time with Matagorda County, he would work along side three of his sons. He retired from there at the age of 62. Survivors include: his wife of 69 years, Maria Lopez Trevino; children, Manuel Trevino, Macedonia Trevino, Rosa Benefield, Benito Trevino, Irenio Trevino, Esteban Trevino, Alisia Herrera and Anita Lentz; sister, Juanita Garcia; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Mitch Sauls officiating. Interment will follow at Matagorda Cemetery. Gloria Ann Trujillo, 52, of Fenton, died December 10, 2012. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton, with the Fr. David Harvey Celebrant. Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday, and from 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton and from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass, Monday at the church. Gloria was born July 16, 1960 in El Campo, Texas, the daughter of Alonzo and Nancy (Perez) Gutierrez. She was married to Anthony R. Trujillo on January 22, 2000 in Bay City, Texas. Gloria retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2009. She had lived in Fenton the past 10 years, coming from Mesa, Arizona. Surviving are: husband, Anthony Trujillo, Sr.; children, Valerie (Christopher) Revier, Kimberly (Adam) Roberts, Anthony Trujillo Jr., Mario Trujillo, John Oros, Gabriel Trujillo; grandchildren, Rylee, Abigail, Emily, Alexis and Jalen; mother, Nancy Gutierrez; sisters, Sharon (Rafael) Gonzales, Vicki (John) Garza; her loving dog, Ruby. John H. Turner, 83, of Bryan, went to be with his Lord on Friday, June 21, 2013. John was born on June 20, 1930 to Emory and Catherine (Connor) Turner in Providence, Rhode Island. John proudly served his country in the United States Army as an honor guard for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well as serving for numerous funerals in Arlington National Cemetery. During his service, John met and married Joyce McDonald Turner. After they were both honorably discharged from the Army, John and Joyce moved to Bay City, Texas. John began his career with the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years before retiring. After retirement, John worked for HEB for 15 years in Bay City and Bryan. Many remember John for his fondness of bowling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Catherine Turner and many relatives in Rhode Island. John will be remembered by: his wife of 63 years, Joyce Turner; a son, Johnny Turner and his wife Debbie; two grandchildren, Kristin Kier and her husband Sean, and Andy Turner and his wife Emily; three great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Kier, Camryn Turner, and Kennedy Turner. Raymond Dean Tweedle of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Bay City, TX, passed away October 7, 2013, after a long illness. He was born September 2, 1949 in Lolita, TX, to the late W. D. and Claudell Tweedle. He was preceded in death by his brother, Denver. He is survived by his friend, Joy Russell of FL; two sons, Danny and wife Tina and Donny Tweedle; grandsons, Ashton, Xavier, Danzig and Zackary, all of Angleton; four sisters, Claudia and Milton Jarrell, Nora Stephens, Betty and Jim Stephens and Peggy Russell Cram of Bay City. In 2005, he received a double lung transplant. He donated his body to the University of Florida Medical School. He had a memorial service in Florida on October 11, 2013.
