Linda Ann Hamons, of Ganado, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the age of 68. She was born in El Campo, Texas on March 21, 1948, to the late Lee D. Hamons, Sr. and Laura A. Wied.
Linda was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly. Linda was El Campo’s very first polio victim of 1949. She was a patient at the Gonzales Warm Springs Foundation on and off throughout her childhood where she underwent many surgeries. She had a lovely voice and was chosen to sing at numerous events including the annual Christmas party at the Arabia Temple Crippled Children’s clinic in Houston as well as many other benefits and charity balls in Wharton County. On June 4, 1966, she married her sweetheart Wayne and moved to Bay City. Against medical advice, she had two children, and was a stay at home wife and mother. Linda was an exceptional baker and her specialty was homemade bread. She loved life and had a strong determination to live it to the best of her ability. She loved the color red, country and western music, pickles, and socializing with family, friends, and neighbors. Her strong faith in God made it possible to overcome all of the many obstacles she faced in her life. Linda continued to be a medical miracle for the rest of her life. Doctors were always amazed at the way she bounced back from illness. Her gradual decline in health was just too much to sustain any longer and she succumbed to the final ravages of post-polio syndrome.
She is survived by her daughter; Deanne Renee Barrie and her husband Christopher of Bay City; son, Russell Todd Melton of Bay City; sisters, Sandra Green (Howard) and Gail Hamons (Archie); brother, Lee Hamons, Jr. (Barbara); grandchildren, Chelsea Barrie, Russell Melton, Jr., Blaine Melton; great-grandchild, Ariella Melton; stepmother, Virginia Hamons; former husband, Wayne Louis Melton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents; and nephew Michael Hamons.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the St. James Lutheran Church of Ganado. Reverend Chris Heinold will be officiating.
Special thanks to the doctors and staff at Detar Hospital in Victoria as well as the staff at Ganado Nursing home for taking care of Linda until the end. Also a special thanks to those who visited her throughout the years because it was greatly appreciated.
Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. 361-782-2221.

Did you know…? his question was always one of intrigue or something to make you think. I am speaking of Forrest Dale Harper born in Palacios, Texas on April 8th 1977 to Russell and Violet Harper. Residing predominantly in Cleburne. Forrest grew up with his two sisters, Heather Wilkerson and the youngest Lynelle Sparks who later made him an uncle with niece Taylor Fain. He excelled in Pathfinders, Boy Scouts and loved hiking and computers. Funny and quick witted the handsome young man married Jennifer Griffitt. Who gave birth to Katherine and Abigail Harper. On May 16, 1999 he married Elisha Rogers, mother of his youngest daughter Mackenzie. Forrest, a long standing member of the Cleburne Seventh Day Adventist Church, served in a number of positions. Over the years he was on the church board, served as webmaster and leader of the junior department. Perhaps his favorite roll was telling the children's story. With great excitement and forethought he strolled across the stage weaving a tale enjoyable to both young and old. One of his greatest joys came two weeks before his death, he became a grandpa to Corbyn Wise born to his oldest daughter. Forrest passed October 6th 2016 Did you know…? he's asleep awaiting Christ glorious second coming He is survived by his parents Russell and Violet Harper; his wife Elisha Harper; daughters Katherine Harper, Abigail Harper and MacKenzie Harper; sisters Heather Wilkerson and Husband Stephen; Lynelle Sparks and Husband Clay and niece Taylor Fain and nephew Taylor James Sparks and by one grandchild Corbyn Wise. Learline Henson, near lifelong resident of Matagorda County, passed away in Matagorda General Hospital on September 20, 2016 at 9:40 a.m.
She was born Andril Learline Rooks to Eugene and Mary (Knapp) Rooks in the winter of 1940 on February 4 in Palacios. The eldest of six siblings, she helped to raise the younger children, as was the way of the time. All of the children were born and raised at the Green house. That area came to be known and is still known as Green Acres.
The family grew to include; Merlin, Charlie, Cecil, Ellen and baby sister Shirley. The entire family continued to reside in south Texas for most of their lives, mostly in Matagorda County.
Learline went to school in Palacios where she met and fell in love with her future husband Irvin (IW) Henson.
He was also born in Palacios; the youngest of four siblings, and one year older than she was. They both graduated from Palacios High School, IW in ’57 and Learline in ’58.
These high school sweethearts married in the summer of ’58 after her graduation, right here in Palacios. They soon started their own family with Cheryl being born in ’59, followed by Chris in ’60 and the youngest son Craig in ’61. Time went on, and the loving wife and mother, Learline, raised the children to school age.
In 1967 she started to deliver mail on a rural route, called the Star route in those days. She took the route over from JW Henson, IW’s father, and made a career of it. She continued to deliver mail in Matagorda County until she retired in 2005. She also managed the Dairy Queen in the late seventies while continuing to deliver mail.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved her pet poodles companionship while at home. She also enjoyed watching and listening at the many country and western music shows her life-long love and husband, IW, performed throughout the area. Her favorite was ‘I Will Always Love You’ written by Dolly Parton. She would get mad if IW didn’t perform it at every show.
She was preceded in passing by both parents, younger brother Cecil and granddaughter Angelique, another one of the sweetest people you could ever meet, tragically killed at a very young age, in an automobile accident. She leaves behind her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 58 years, her daughter and two sons, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a brother and three sisters.
She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched and
remembered with love and affection by everyone close to her. She
will live on in the hearts of all the lives she touched, forever. Palacios Beacon, September 28, 2016

Dot is survived by Bert; her three children, Allison Huebner Tally (Cam), Glenn Baer Huebner, and Sara Lee Huebner; and her three grandchildren, Leigh Anne Tally, Taylor Maclin Tally, and Savannah Glyn Tally. Dot was always thrilled with visits from the grandchildren and the grandchildren themselves have very fond memories of summers spent at “boot camp” with their wonderful grandparents. Dot graduated from Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans. She was a founding member of the Junior Service League of Bay City and an active participant of numerous other community service organizations over the years. Dot was pre-deceased by her parents, Arthur G. and Pearl Alyce Yates Baer; infant, Daniel Baer Huebner; and her two sisters, Hattie Louise Baer Hall and Ruth Alyce Baer Westmoreland. Dot was warmly considered to be a second mom to her nieces and nephews whom she loved very much, Kalyn Westmoreland Green (deceased), Greg Baer Westmoreland, Reid Baer Westmoreland, Jami Ruth Westmoreland Ahysen, Ruth Ann Hall Taylor, Jenilu Hall, Marc Baer Hall (deceased), Carolyn Sue (Suzy) Hall Walters and Arthur Baer Hall. The family received visitors from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.
