Marvin Lee Harvel, 89, of Bay City, Texas, passed away Thursday March 4, 2021. He was born August 25, 1931 in Buffalo, Oklahoma to the late Kenneth Lee Harvel and Ruth Johnson Harvel. Marvin was a Pampa Harvester Football player. After graduation from Pampa High School he went on to play college football as a WT Buffalo at West TX State University (West TX A&M). When duty called he enlisted in the US Navy to serve 3.5 years on the USS DELTA AR-9 AK-29 and on submarine vessels as well. He was primarily stationed in the Sea of Japan and was proud to be one of the brave men with the Delta "Can-do" Spirit. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 34 years and 5 months Elsie Boyd Harvel and He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years and 7 months Mary Molly Harvel, as well as his son Murray Harvel, and daughters Lee Ann McGonagle, Holly Williamson, Jill Busha and Mary Andrea O’Donnell. Grandchildren surviving are Charles (Chip) Cordes, Julia Busha Collins, Laura Busha Baker, Warren Williamson, Carrie Busha Bailey, Graham Harvel Williamson, Catherine Holly Williamson, William H. McGonagle III, James O’Donnell, Kaelyn O’Donnell, Kyle Lee Lund, Gabriel Lund as well as 13 great grandchildren... with 2 more on the way! The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation beginning at 9:00am Monday, March 8, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Bay City. Funeral services will begin at 10:00am with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, Texas. Pallbearers for Marvin will be 4 of his grandsons Chip, William, Warren and Graham and 2 sons-in-law Terry Busha & Patrick O'Donnell.

Francis Wayne Harvey Francis Wayne Harvey Funeral services for Francis Wayne Harvey, 57, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Wednesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Michael Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Mr. Harvey was born March 11, 1933, to George F. and Anna Sophia Bareule Harvey in Republican City, Neb., and died June 25, 1990, at his home. He retired from the U. S. Army in 1973 as a staff sergeant after having served continuously since 1953. While in the U. S. Army he saw combat action in Korea and Vietnam. During his military serviced he received the following medals and awards: Bronze Star with combat V, Good Conduct with clasp bronze and four loops, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three stars, U. N. Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and several other foreign and military awards. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 230, of Bay City and a member of the American Legion of Long Island, Kan. He was also a member of the Methodist church. Survivors include his wife, Betty Bender Harvey of Bay City; two daughters, Roxanne Rainville of Bay City and Tammy Sue Tanner of Tacoma, Wash.; a son, Sgt. Terry W. Harvey of Fort Leonard [Wood], Mo.; two sisters, Opel Mae Crawford of Long Island, Kan. and Darlene Hewitt of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Wayne Bender, Joe Ledwig, Terry Dean Sumner, Jeff Hewitt, Mike Hewitt, Donald Ray Ledwig and Bobby Bender. A memorial donation to the family is requested in lieu of flowers. Frank D. Hattenbach Bernice L. Hattenbach Frank D. Hattenbach Sr. Funeral services for Frank D. Hattenbach Sr., 88, of Bay City will be held 3 p. m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. W. D. Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p. m. today at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Hattenbach was born Dec. 31, 1902, to Christian Daniel and Sophia Schindler Hattenbach in Yoakum and died April 8, 1991, at Matagorda General Hospital. A resident of Bay City for 40 years, he was a member of the ODD Fellows and Rebekah lodges. He served as the former custodian for the Bay City High School Band Hall. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Billie Johnson of Freeport; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank Daniel and Barbara Hattenbach Jr. of Bay City; two sisters, Lovie Howell of Texas City and Agnes Decantier of Alta Loma; two grandchildren, Christi Hattenbach and Leonard Stavena; and one great-grandchild, Amanda Stavena. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Hattenbach, who died in 1970 and by five sisters. Pallbearers will be James Sowell, Gordon Hardegree, Roy Sanders, Bill Ehlert, Wayne Michael and E. C. Funeral services will be held for Edward Louis Hickl, 65, of Bay City, 2:00 PM today (Wednesday) at Holy Cross Church. Hickl died October 12, 1981, in Bay City. Officiating at the services will be the Father Charles Sonnier.
He is survived by: wife, Martha Hickl of Bay City; children, Ed Jr. and Barbara Hickl of Houston, Melvin Joe and Pam Hickl of Huntsville, Cynthia Hickl Hahn and Charles Hahn of Kenedy; brothers, William of Blessing, John Jr., August, Joe and Lawrence Hickl of El Maton, Louis of Palacios and Jesse of Bay City; sisters, Mrs. Louise Saha of El Maton and Mrs. Annie Holub of Bay City; and, seven grandchildren.
Rosary was said Tuesday at 7:30 PM at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.
Hickl was a member of Holy Cross Church, K.J.T., VFW Post 2438; a Veteran of World War II, retired from Matagorda County Pct. 1 and a resident of Bay City for 53 years.
Burial will follow services at Cedarvale Cemetery.
Pallbearers include: August, Louis, Jesse, Joe, Lawrence and James Hickl and Bernard Wendel. Honorary pallbearers include: Gregory and David Wendel, Edmund, David, Ronald and Donald Hickl, Shirley Trojeak and Bobby Jones.

Martha Kristek Hickl Huston Martha Kristek Hickl Huston of Wadsworth, Texas passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016. She was born in Holman Fayette County Texas on July 10, 1921 to Emil Kristek and Christine Pratka Kristek. In 1934, Martha and her parents moved to El Maton. She attended Blessing public school and graduated as Valedictorian in 1939. A scholarship enabled her to attend Smalley Commercial College in Houston, Texas, after which she went to work for J.G. Long Co. as a bookkeeper. In July of 1941, she married Edward Hickl. The bombing of Pearl Harbor in December, resulted in changes in their life plans. While he was in the China-Burma-India theatre of war, she went to work for the War Department as a civilian payroll clerk at Camp Hulen at Palacios, Ellington Field near Houston, and after 28 months, her husband returned and went to work at Camp White in Medford, Oregon. They returned to Bay City and started a family. Twelve years later, an opportunity presented itself to go back to office work as secretary-bookkeeper at Van Vleck ISD. This was followed by bookkeeper at Goodyear Service Store, Matagorda Co. District Clerk’s office, part time County Tax and Co. clerk’s office and Hugh Harper Realty Associate, until Ed died in an accident in 1981. Martha married Tom Huston in 1985, and they developed an RV lifestyle, which took them all over the U.S. and parts of Canada. They lived in Durango, Colorado for 14 summers and in Mesa, Arizona for eight winters, until they returned to Wadsworth, Texas, and made many friends along the way. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas, KJZT #100, Catholic Union of Texas, KJT, Life member of VFW Post 2438, and Holy Cross Altar Society. She is survived by her husband, Tom M. Huston of Wadsworth; son, Edward L. Hickl Jr. and wife Barbara of Houston and Canyon Lake, Texas; daughter-in-law, Pam Hickl of Bastrop; daughter, Cynthia Hickl Hahn and husband Charles of Canyon Lake, Texas; step-daughter, Darlene Huston of Richwood, Texas; grandchildren, Ed Hickl III, Amy Hickl, Traci Jackson and husband Michael, Randy Hickl and wife Emily, Shannon Allen and husband Jon, Chad Hahn and wife Shannon, and Ashley Hahn; step-grandchildren, Matthew Huston, Michelle Huston and Mark Huston; 10 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Edward Hickl Sr.; son, Melvin Joe Hickl; and step-son, Tommy Huston Jr. Visitation will be Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Taylor Bros. Frank L. Hodges Mary Elizabeth Hodges Fetters Community Leader Dies During Surgery – Frank L. Hodges Frank T. [L.] Hodges, a Bay City civic leader, died Wednesday, May 18, 1977 in the Veteran’s Hospital in Houston. He had been critically ill in the hospital for the past six weeks and died during heart surgery. Hodges, 55, was born in Paris, Tx. and had been a resident of Bay City for the past 10 years. He was a member of the C. I. A. and was well known in insurance and investment circles, and together with hi wife, Elizabeth, managed three apartment complexes in Bay City. His civic activities include his membership on the Board of Directors of the Matagorda County Red Cross and the Board of Directors of the Bay City Community Concert Association, of which he served as campaign manager in 1975. He was a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church and assisted each summer with the swimming program for handicapped children at the annual camp held in Palacios. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U. S. Navy. Mrs. Fetters was born April 25, 1917, in Houston, and died June 29, 1994, in Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. In 1944, she and husband, David Malcolm Cashion, moved to Bay City with their four sons. She organized a county-wide Red Cross Swimming Program and was appointed water safety chairman of Matagorda County Red Cross for 32 years. She was a founder of the Bay City Study Club. She was one of the first managers in the school cafeteria and was appointed the first state chairman for National School Lunch week. She served as president of the elementary, junior high and high school P. T. A. She was the first woman to sell $5 million worth of insurance in the Bay City area in eight months. A member of First Presbyterian Church of Bay City, she was active in Sunday School and youth activities. Survivors include her husband, Virgil Fetters of Bay City; three sons, Jimmy Cashion of Kerrville, Tommy Cashion of Woodbury, Ga. and Butch Cashion of Bay City; three step-daughters, Natalie Robinson of Houston, Martha Winzler of Houston and Jean Fetters of Houston; seven grandchildren, Deanna Vandelinde, Lena Cashion, Tommielynn Cashion, Steven C. Cashion, Tina M. Cashion, Nathan C. Cashion, Kimberly McCormick and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, David M. Cashion in 1955; by her second husband, Frank Hodges in 1977 and by a son, Billy Cashion in 1989. Kenneth Lamond Hodges, 72, passed away at his residence in Clute on
Sunday, January 8, 2006.
Noma Lee Cummings Schmerber Hodges Noma Lee Hodges, 79, formerly of Clute and Lake Jackson, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 4, 2010, at Regent Care Center in Humble, Texas, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Noma was born on April 26, 1931, in Bay City, Texas, the daughter of Nannie Bell Meredith and E. B. Cummings. Her first husband, James Richard Schmerber, preceded her in death May 17, 1954, and her second husband, Kenneth Lamond Hodges, preceded her in death January 8, 2006. She was also preceded in death by: her parents; sisters, Frankie Cummings Robinson of Oyster Creek, Maudie Cummings Taylor Adams of Bay City; and one brother, E. B. Cummings, also of Bay City. Noma came to Lake Jackson from Bay City in 1961 when Kenneth went to work for the Lake Jackson Police Department. She worked for many years as an assistant at the Lake Jackson Library. Later, after moving to Clute, where Kenneth worked for the Clute police and fire departments, she opened Topsy Turvy Snow Cones across the street from Reck’s Grocery Store, where many local residents happily refreshed themselves on hot summer days. In the winter, Noma accompanied Kenneth as he portrayed Santa Claus, frequently being mistaken for Mrs. Claus. She was an avid teddy bear — as well as other stuffed animals — collector; a great lover of mysteries, both written and filmed; and a doting mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She is survived by: her son, Richard Schmerber and wife, Cindi of Humble; grandsons, Scott Schmerber of Webster, Jimmy Schmerber and wife Leslie of Rosharon, John Schmerber of Pasadena; and one great-granddaughter, Lindsey Schmerber of Rosharon. Also surviving are her brother- and sister-in-law, Bobby and Beth Hodges of Gatesville; brother-in-law, Sam Schmerber of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Lois Cummings of Bay City, Elaine Erickson of Longmont, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the personnel at Village on the Creek in Clute, Regent Care Center in Humble and especially Compassionate Care Hospice of Kingwood, Texas, for their loving, diligent care of “Maw” as she courageously battled this horrible disease. Roxie Mae Hoffman Roxie Mae Hoffman, 68, of Linden, TX passed away November 9, 2011 in Texarkana, Texas after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 23, 1943 in Bay City, TX to the Late Loy & Ivy Rhodes Taylor. She spent her last years doing what she loved most, tending her flower gardens and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by parents Loy & Ivy Taylor, 2 brothers, 4 sisters, and husband of 20 years Henry Hoffman. She is survived by her children: Johnny Hoffman & wife Marcella of Wharton, TX, Michele Guernsey & husband Dale of Bivins, TX, Darell Hoffman & wife Pam of Linden, TX, and Jason Hoffman & wife Gina of Linden, TX; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Edward Scrapps "Eddie" Jones Edward Scrapps Jones Funeral services for Edward Scrapps Jones, 24, of Bay City will be held 10 a. m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Msgr, Jack B. Jones and Msgr. James Brunner officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City. A rosary will be held 6:30 p. m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel. Mr. Jones was born Feb. 4, 1965, in El Campo to Louis Frank and Anne Helen Corcoran Jones and died Nov. 26, 1989, at his residence. A lifelong resident of Bay City, he was a member of the Bay City Parks and Recreation Department’s softball team, “Outlaws,” and Holy Cross Catholic Church. Survivors include his parents, Louis and Anne Jones of Bay City; three sisters, Jill Dunaway, Ellen Jones and Laura Jones, all of Bay City; a niece, Lindsey Rush of Bay City; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. E. F. Corcoran of Houston. Pallbearers include David Stavena, Kevin Orr, Craig Standlee, Scott Smith, Billy Mason and Dennis Grasmuck. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Louis F. Jones Louis F. Jones Louis F. Jones, 61, of Bay City passed away December 8, 1995 at Matagorda House in Bay City. He was born July 4, 1934 in Houston, Texas to Scrapps Walter and Gladys Bailey Jones. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and had been a resident of Bay City for 27 years. He is survived by his wife, Anne Corcoran Jones of Bay City, by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Troy Dunaway of Bay City, Ellen and Kent Wissman of Austin, and Laura and Mark Avery of Houston, by five sisters, Jane Devine of Reno, Nevada, Margaret Furstenberg of Houston, Rachel Abbott of Midland, Ramah Briganti of Austin, and Cina Musselman of Katy, by three brothers, Msgr. Jack B. Jones, Scrapps W. Jones, and Bob Jones all of Houston, and by two grandchildren, Lindsey Rush and Haley Dunaway. A rosary was said at 6:00 p. m. Sunday, December 10, 1995 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p. m. Monday, December 11, 1995 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Msgr. James C. Brunner officiating. Burial followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers were Eric D. Moody, Gary Moody, Jeff Jones, Kenneth Jones, Robert Jones and Richard Furstenberg. Honorary pallbearers were Scotty Dickerson, John Dickerson, Karl Anderson, Frank Sliva, Raymond Burt, Kenneth Black, and James Henkes. Memorials may be made to the Holy Cross School Foundation or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel in Bay City.
