Aaron Bernard Cahoon, 95, of Sweeny passed away April 20, 2015. He was born November 4, 1919 in Sebastian County, Arkansas to the late Ruel Cahoon and Clara Burris Cahoon. He retired as Warehouse Supervisor from Phillips Petroleum. His wife, Betty Emma Fogle Cahoon, preceded him in death. Survivors include sons Chuck Cahoon of Kingwood, TX and Aaron B. Cahoon II of Austin; sister Ann Gavin of Houston; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The family will observe private remembrances.

Alpha Lucille Calk, 83, passed away June 29, 2015 in Bay City, Texas. She was born on April 15, 1932, to Harvey M. Green and Edna Andalee Ellis Green, in Stowell, Texas. Lucy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wade Thomas Calk Sr.; and brothers, Albert Rosenbusch, Carl Rosenbusch, Ernest Ellis, Pete Green and Bubba Green; and sister, Pat Commilleau. She is survived by sons, Tranis and Judy Calk of Van Vleck, Texas, Clayton and Suzanne Calk of Baytown, Texas, Wade Jr. and Pam Calk of Boling, Texas; daughter, Nancy and Al DuCote of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; and son, Bobby and Donna Calk of Van Vleck, Texas. She has numerous nieces and nephews, whom she was very proud of; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six greatgreat-grandchildren. She loved them all dearly. She was extremely proud to belong to the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Bay City, Texas. She loved her church family. We wish to thank The Legacy for their care in her last months. Avery Michael Campbell, 37, of Bay City went to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 18, 2015. Avery was born on December 17, 1977 in Oakland, California to David and Vickie Knapp Campbell. Avery was a beloved son, a caring father, a loving brother, uncle and a true friend. Avery is survived by his children, Hester Angelica Campbell and Melody Noel Campbell; parents, father David Doane Campbell and mother Vickie Lynn Campbell; brothers and sisters, Rebecca Ann, Megan Marie, Jaime Lynn, David Drew and Jesse Lee. Jose Antonio Cardosa, 79, of Bay City, Texas, died at Bay Villa Nursing Home, January 23, 1976. He was born June 14, 1896, in Allende, Mexico. Survivors include three sisters, Maria Rodriquez, Aguedita Cardosa, and Rosita Cardosa; three brothers, Jose Angel, Guadalupe, and Jose Andres Cardosa; 24 nieces and nephews. Services were held January 24, 1976, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with the Rev. Joseph Shannon officiating. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery on January 25, 1976.
Pallbearers were Frank, Abel, Salvador, and Camilo Morales, Carlos Cardoza and Lalo Rodriquez. Arrangements were with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Margarita Carrion, 87, of Bay City, passed away May 20, 2015. She was born February 22, 1928, in El Maton, Texas, to Sebastian and Petra Benavides. Margarita known as Guelite or Tia Mage, by many more than just her family, lived in Bay City for most of her life. She married Castulo Carrion when she was 16 years old. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother to all. She was always willing to help people, and family was always first no matter how extended. She loved to travel to Mexico to visit family there. Margarita was a #1 Vicente Fernandez fan and mariachi music was her favorite. She loved her little dog, Princess, who was her beloved pet. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City. Margarita is preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Castulo Carrion. By her brothers and sisters, Gregorio Benavides, Manuela, Benavides, Teresa Perez, Luis Benavides, Juan Benavides, Tommy Benavides Sr., and Susana Vargas-Benavides. She is survived by her daughter, Lydia Diaz and her husband Javier of Bay City; special sister-in-law, Lupe Benavides; grandchildren, Maggie Monroy, Rosario Resendez, Christi Lara (Ricardo Lara) and Crystal Locke (Jean Paul Perrin); great-grandchildren, Alexis Monroy, Karla Monroy, Angela Monroy and Ricardo Lara Jr. Also by Bruno Diaz, whom she considered a son; Susie Brito, her special great niece; and many more family and friends. Visitation was held 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2015, with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary. Funeral mass was held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2015, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Msgr. Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 16, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.
Mr. Castillo died Thursday, January 14, in Houston. He was born November 22, 1929, in Bay City, to the late Castulo and Anselma Molinar Castillo. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Eagles, V.F.W, and House Rule Chapter Community.
Mr. Castillo is survived by: his wife, Marsella Castillo of Bay City; daughter, Jennifer Kay Castillo and her fiancée Ron Smethers of Corpus Christi; sons, Leo Castillo and wife Pam of Bay City and Christopher Castillo of Bay City; sisters, Isbella Castillo and Maria Ellen Hernandez, both of Brownsville; grandchildren, Christi, Michael, Jeffrey, and Ashleigh Castillo.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; husband Filemon Castillo; sons Christopher and Leo Castillo, and great-grandson Zachry Slotman. Marcelina Castillo, 45, of Bay City, Texas, died Tuesday, April 3, 1973, at Matagorda General Hospital. A native of Hasima Community, Texas, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Anselma Castillo, of Matamoras, Mexico, two sisters Mrs. Maria Isabel Castillo, of Matamoras, and Mrs. Maria Elena Hernandez, of Matamoras, two brothers F. M. Castillo and Nat Castillo, both of Bay City. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 5, at 10:00 AM, at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Father Shannon officiating. A Rosary will be said Wednesday, 8:15 PM, at Taylor Brothers. Mr. C. R. Cates, one of the most esteemed and valued citizens and business men of Palacios, died at his home in this city last Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock, his death resulting from a chronic affection of the liver culminating in an abscess. Thursday morning the remains were taken to the family burying grounds at Hawley, where funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. M. Wolf, president of Palacios college, the deceased having been an honored and devoted member of the Baptist church. An escort from the local camp of the W. O. W., of which Mr. Cates was a much appreciated member, went to the residence Thursday morning to accompany the remains to their last resting place. The pall bearers, all members of this lodge, were Messrs. S. T. Best, R. H. Oneal, E. S. Daniels, Ron Huddleston, Roy Shuman and Walter Williams. Mr. Cates was a native of Mississippi having been born in that state in 1865, and was 46 years of age at the time of his death. He came to Texas in 1888, and located at Palacios about three years ago. His wife was Miss Bennie Wheeler, a step daughter of Mr. Nolan Keller, of this city, and beside his widow leaves four children to mourn his loss, a son, Ulysses, and three daughters, Rachael, Ardell and Lola. Mr. Cates was one of the large stock-holders in the Smith Mercantile Co., and was also a stockholder in the State Guaranty Bank & Trust Co., both places of business being closed on Wednesday in respect to his memory, and the store was closed Thursday for the funeral, and in which Mr. Cates was one of the active owners. As a citizen and businessman, Mr. Cates stood high in the esteem of all our people, and in the city and throughout all the country had a large circle of good friends by whom he will be much missed, and who are greatly grieved by his demise, and whose sincere sympathy goes out to the stricken family in the great loss they have sustained.

Edwin Milton Cerny, 75, passed away August 27, 2015 after a determined battle with cancer. Edwin was born on March 22, 1940, to the late Adolph and Della Mary Zernicek Cerny. Together, Edwin and his wife Jeroline raised five children and took pride in their accomplishments. An avid mechanic, he owned his own auto shop and later farmed for many years. He also worked for Rail Serve at Lyondell Chemicals until his retirement. His strong work ethic and perseverance were passed down to each of his descendants. He was a life-long member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City and he loved fishing, crabbing, hunting, and just spending time with his children and grand-children. He also enjoyed making the best barbeque in Texas for family gatherings, celebrating his family's Czech heritage, and watching Western movies. He is survived by his loving wife of over 52 years, Jeroline “Jay” Cerny, his four daughters: Sherry Reynal and husband Stewart of Bay City, Kathy Pratt and husband Jeff of Victoria, Judy Falb and husband Dave of Montgomery, And Melanie Bradley and Israel DeLaRosa, Jr. of Bay City, and a son, Jeffrey Cerny and wife Molly of Kingwood. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jason and Shane Reynal, Samantha Bradley, Christopher and Jacob Falb, Katie Pratt, and Rylie Cerny and two sisters, Dorothy Venglar and Gloria Treybig, and niece Debbie Polacek as well as other numerous nieces and nephews. The visitation will be on Saturday August 29 starting at 5:00 PM with a Rosary Service beginning at 6:00 PM at Taylor Bros. A funeral Mass will be held on Sunday August 30 at 2:00 PM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City with Father Greg Korenek officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Larry Leon Chamberlain,61,of Sweeny passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Larry was born on November 24, 1953 in Fort Worth, Texas Larry was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was supportive of anything involving his children and grandchildren. He was very respectful ,loyal and loving to all who he came in contact with. Larry was respected for his mechanical ability. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed taxidermy as a hobby. Larry worked for McGill Maintenance and had been employed at STP for 10 years and BASF for 19 years. He was also a Mason at Bay City Masonic Lodge. Larry is preceded in death by his dad Joe Chamberlain and granddaughter Haley Victoria Garcia. DANEVANG-Oscar V. 'Mickey' Christensen, 93, of Danevang passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2015.
He was born in Danevang on October 31, 1921 to the late Christian J. and Marie Jensen Christensen. Mickey was a farmer/rancher and the owner of OK Farms. He was an active member of Danevang Lutheran Church where he served as president and treasurer many times. He was also a member of the Danevang Farmers Co-op and served as president, the WCEC Board where he served as treasurer, Tidehaven School Board, Community ASC, Cen-Tex Oil Board, Gulf Marketing Board, Danevang Historical Preservation Society where he served as president and treasurer, and was a U. S. weather man.
Survivors include his daughters, Glenda (Lynn) Kurten of Bryan, Cathy (David) Dybala of Victoria, and Janet (Mark) Lesak of Victoria; son, Kenny (Anita) Christensen of Danevang; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie L. Hutson Christensen in 2014; sisters, Viola A. Christensen Rasmussen, Emma Christensen Ladewig and Helga Christensen Jensen; brothers, Jens, Albert and Martin Christensen.
Visitation will be held 3- 5 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Danevang Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Danevang Lutheran Church, Rev. Laird Engle officiating. Burial will follow in the Danevang Lutheran Cemetery.

Steven Mitchell Cornman, 61, of Bay City, TX, passed away peacefully in Sugar Land, TX, on May 5, 2015. He was born November 7, 1953, in Wharton, TX, to the late Billie G Cornman and Gladys Robertson Cornman. Steven was a loving, caring man, who had great faith for our savior Jesus Christ. He graduated from Bay City High School and attended Wharton County Junior College, and TSTI in Waco, TX, where he studied Electronics. He is survived by his sister, Kathlene Krejci (Darryl); niece, Ashley Rooth; nephews, Kurtis Krejci and Kullen Krejci; uncle, Martin Robertson; special family friends, Carrie Pena (David); and his Bay Villa Nursing Home family. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and siblings, David Cornman and Thomas Cornman. H. A. Couch, who was lovingly called "Grandpa" by those who knew him, died at the home of his son, J. F. Couch, in Collegeport, last Wednesday, after an illness of but a few days. All that could be done by physicians, friends and loved ones was done, but God saw fit to call him home and the relief came. Deceased was born in Mississippi, January 14, 1845 and died April 20, 1921, being 76 years, 3 months and 6 days old at the time of his death. He married Miss Fannie Hardgraves at Jacksonville, Texas, to which union thirteen children were born, six sons and four daughters are still living. At the time of the Civil War Mr. Couch served his country as a Confederate soldier and for many years served the Master as a "Noble veteran of the Cross." Palacios Beacon, April 29, 1921

Alyne Raymond Cox passed away in Bay City, Texas, on April 25, 2015, at the age of 99. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Amanda Yeamans Raymond; her brothers, Jack and Thomas Raymond; and her husband, Deward Cox. Alyne was born on March 7, 1916 in Matagorda, Texas. She grew up in Matagorda, Old Gulf and New Gulf. She graduated from Boling High School. She raised her family in Bay City, and after the death of her husband, she moved her house to Matagorda. She was a world traveler, artist and member of many local organizations. She is survived by her daughter, Judy of Pearland; and son, Raymond (Julie) of Matagorda. She is also survived by her grandson, Jon and his mother Kay; great-grandsons, Thomas (Megan), and David Cox; and great-great-granddaughter, Hailey Cox and her sister Emily. Alyne is also survived by her sister, JoeFaye Deshotels; her nephew, George (MaryAnna) Deshotels; and niece, Annette Eicke. The family would like to thank the many friends and relatives that took such loving care of Alyne toward the end of her journey. Janice Robbins Cunningham was happy to be able to spend her last days at home in Bay City, Texas. Born July 15, 1941, in Denver, Colorado, she drifted away peacefully into the arms of her Lord, with family by her side, on July 8, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Harry and Evelyn Robbins; brothers, Harry Jr. and John Robbins; and grandson, Travis White. She will be remembered for her smile and love of family, and as the wife and companion of Tom Cunningham, and the mother of Michael Vincent and Julie of Winlock, WA., Sandra Snider and Lee of Van Vleck, TX., Marie Mitchell and Jack of Angleton, TX., and Jennifer Cunningham of Austin, TX. She cherished her grandchildren, Jason, Cora, Melissa, Daniel, Kadee, Jessica, Nicholas, Mitchell, Jeremy, Kylie, Dayle, Jackson, and Atom; as well as her 10 great-grandchildren; her several nieces and nephews; and her furry critters. She enjoyed the time spent with her many friends, the Red Hat Ladies, at Economic Action, and the Thursday Coffee Club. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 12, at 4 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church, Bay City, Texas, with Brother Chester Sassman. Family members would like to express gratitude for all the kindness and concern received. In accordance with her wishes, she will be reunited with the mountains of Colorado.

Julius Alexander Cunningham, a retired employee of Matagorda Shell Company, died Monday, May 11, at his home at 304 Duson Avenue, after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at 10 Wednesday morning, May 13, in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard E. Stone officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. A resident of Palacios for 60 years, he was born April 12, 1888, in Hempstead, Texas, son of Alexander and Martha Daniel Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham was an employee in the Palacios Post Office for many years. He was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church and was elected church treasurer when it was organized on June 30, 1907 and installed a deacon in January, 1921. He was also a veteran member of the Palacios Fire Department and served the department as one of its first secretaries. He is survived by his wife, Bertha, two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Jarvis of Kingsville and Mrs. Janice Harvey of Palacios; two sons, James L. of Fort Bayard, New Mexico and Alexander A. Cunningham of Fort Worth.

PALACIOS - Crystal Kathleen Curtis, age 52, of Palacios passed away on Sunday August 2, 2015.
She was born in Exeter, California on August 12, 1962 to the late Donald Oakes and Margaret Frances Oakes. She was a loving wife and mother who always put others before herself. She gave the best years of her life to raising her sons and healing others.
She will be loved and missed but never forgotten. She is kept by God now and we will see her again.
She is survived by her husband of 5 years Robert George Curtis of Palacios; step-daughter Heather Sara Curtis of Lubbock; sons Monte Earl Mozley of Edmonton, Canada and William Clinton Mozley of Angelton; sister Sherry Kelley of San Antonio.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Larry Oakes and Patrick Oakes. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 10am at the First Methodist Church in Palacios.
Burial to follow at a later date.

Funeral services for Robert E. Curwick, 40, of Bay City, will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 2, 1999, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.
Mr. Curwick died Saturday, October 30, 1999, in Wharton. He was born July 29, 1959, in Inglewood, California, to Arnold and Barbara Robertson Curwick. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bay City and a veteran of the U. S. Navy.
Survivors include: wife, Lisa of Bay City; daughter, Bailey Curwick; sons, Reno and Dallas Curwick of Bay City; father, Arnold Curwick of Alabama; and sister, Brenda Higgins.
Pallbearers will include David Swett, Tony Wells, Arnold Curwick, Dan Duminski, Jamie Thompson, and Paul Bengel. Memorials may be made to Hospice Support, Inc., 1102 N. Mechanic, El Campo, Texas 77437. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
