Bennie Wayne Baldwin, Sr., 61, of Houston, Texas, passed away July 12, 2008. Bennie was born March 25, 1947 in Houston, Texas to Bernice Lee Baldwin and Gladys Stutts Baldwin. He was preceded in death by son, Bennie Wayne Baldwin, Jr. and by wife Deborah Baldwin. He is lovingly survived by son, Jerry Baldwin and by daughter, Yvette Baldwin; by brother, B. L. Baldwin and by sister, Mary Laree Edwards; as well as by grandchildren, Danielle, Kody, Kade, Desiree and Bradley. Services celebrating his life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Pastor Morris Jeffery officiating. He will be laid to rest in Roselawn Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.

Z. V. Barnes, 56, of Lane City died Sept. 18 in the Caney Valley Hospital at Wharton. He was a WWII Veteran and a former resident of Bay City. Survivors include: wife, Sarah Barnes; a daughter, Rosemary Barnes of Slaton; a step-son, M. C. Evans of Alvin; 5 aunts, Tennie Gore of Bay City, Ora L. Edwards and Margie Powell of Corpus Christi, Bessie Jones of Houston, and Odessa Bryant of Edna; 5 grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Faye Bates, 89, of Palacios passed away November 17, 2018. She was born February 22, 1929 in Kaufman County, Texas to the late Douglas Chamblee and Annie Daniels Chamblee. She married Vernon A. Bates, Sr. in 1950. He preceded her in death in 2010. Survivors include her sons Vernon Bates, Jr. & wife Kathy and Mark Bates & wife Rhonda; sisters Margaret Cleveland, Lorraine Smith and Shirley Griffith; grandchildren Keith Bates, Brandi Stringfellow & husband Lance, Matthew Bates & wife Vanessa, Eric Bates & wife Caroline, and great grandchildren Jackson Bates, Will Bates, Sadie Stringfellow and Olivia Bates. Faye’s love for the lord, her church and singing in the choir, influenced her family and friends throughout her life. Her failing health never stopped her from singing hymns and country gospel songs, while living out her final days. Her fun loving spirit and laughter will be a “treasure” to always remember. Thomas Martin Bennett Funeral services for Thomas Martin Bennett, 22, of Bay City will be held at 10 am Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. A rosary will be said at 7 pm Sunday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Bennett was born July 7, 1962, in Bay City and died May 3, 1985, at M.D. Anderson Hospital, Houston. He graduated from Holy Cross School and Bay City High School and Bay City High School and was a four-year accounting student at Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos. He was on the dean’s list of distinguished students his last full semester. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bennett of Bay City; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earle N. Bennett of Alvin; a brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Pamela Bennett of Williston, N. D.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita and Joel Skellie of Dallas and Mary and Gary Bucek of Conroe; a niece, Candace Bucek of Conroe; and his fiancée, Mary McClendon of Fort Worth. James “Rick” Richard Bowles passed from this life Thursday morning,
August 8, 2019, in Houston. James was born on December 17, 1946 in Terrell, Texas to James and Amy (Rice) Bowles. From an early age, James knew the importance of education which is why he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1969 and his Master of Education Degree from the University of Houston in 1983. He married his wife, Susan Wehmeyer, in 1971 and together they raised their 4 boys. In addition to his own children, James taught and mentored many children throughout his career as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and principal. He had the privilege of serving children in the following districts over his career: Ganado ISD, Terrell ISD, Calhoun ISD, Bay City ISD, Pettus ISD, Mathis ISD, Pawnee ISD, Hitchcock ISD and Damon ISD. Some highlights of his career included taking the girls Pawnee HS volleyball team to the state finals and serving as principal for Bay City High School. He found his joy in watching his kids achieve their goals. James also shared his love of sports, especially University of Texas Football and Dallas Cowboys with his wife and together they competed in many tennis tournaments. He had a passion for photography, writing poetry, reader, was an avid Pokémon Go player and enjoyed spending time at the gun range but nothing pleased him more than being a grandfather. James was blessed with a generous life saving donation from a family who had lost a loved one. His new heart gave him 10 extra years to spend with his beloved family. A gift for which they are all eternally grateful. James touched the lives of so many by imparting knowledge and guidance to those who needed it. He left this world and all the lives he touched a little better for having known him. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Mounger Bowles, Amy Margarete (Rice) Lucas and his sister, Mamie Frank. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Susan Bowles; children, Richard Bowles and wife, Temeki of League City, Randy Bowles of Houston, Matthew Bowles and wife, Patty of Angleton, Marcus Bowles and wife, Katie of Pearland; grandchildren, Lexi, Lauralai, Ayden, Jasper, Jace, and T.J.; nephews, Rick Frank and his wife, Deanna and their daughter, Hillary all of Katy, Carl Frank of Traskwood, AR. Flossie Bricker, 94, passed away peacefully in Bay City, Texas on October 20. 2018. She was the daughter of Dora Hyack Bertsh and Conrad Bertsch. Flossie was a devoted and loving wife & mother. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she was in the Women’s Circle. Flossie was preceded in death by husband Robert Bricker. She is survived by four sons: Jack (Ruth preceded in death), Richard & Paula, Mike & Phyllis, and David & Michelle . Grandchildren: Stephanie, Shane, Tim (Barbara), Mark (Amy), Lauren Hodges (Jeff), Jennifer Nichols (Phil), and Christina Bricker. September 12, 1940 - March 28, 2019 Dorothy Sue Brown passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 28, at the age of 78. She was born on September 12, 1940 to Homer and Katherine (Lenz) Brown. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Palacios. She was loved by many children during her years of working at Rainbowland Daycare. She is survived by her siblings Dianna (Charlie) Michalik, Doris (Albert) Malaer, Homer (Cheryl) Brown, Ralph (Mary Ann) Brown, Gloria (Ronnie) Benner, Les (Kay) Brown and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Kenneth Brown, two nieces and a nephew. Michael E. Brune, 67, was born Jan. 2, 1952 to Edmund and Mary Brune in Palacios and he passed away February 26,2019. He is survived by his brothers Sonny (JoAnn) Brune, Jack Brune, Royce (Patii) Brune; sisters Joyce Hunter, Mary Ann (Ralph) Brown, Deborah (Rick) Williams; sister-in-law Bobby Brune, and numerous nieces and nephews. William 'Mike' Buffaloe, 63, passed away on August 25, 2018. Mike was born a 'cowboy' to Lillie (Murphree) and William Edward Buffaloe on December 4, 1954. He grew up in Bay City, Texas where he began riding horses and working cows at a very young age and never looked back. After marrying Lisa (Novosad) on December 12, 1987, they moved to Needville, Texas and he began to also work as a machine operator for SW Labs and Gulf States Tube, but his heart and soul was always on horseback. Mike is survived by his wife, Lisa; daughter, Kendal Buffaloe; and daughter, Bailey Gunter and husbband Burley Gunter and grandson Cooper Gunter. Surviving siblings include Sue Brannon and husband Jack, TJ Buffaloe and wife Julia, Patt Chandler and husband Barry, and Todd Buffaloe; along with the clan of Novosad in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.

John David Burrough, 79, of Van Vleck, TX, passed away February 14, 2019. He was born February 22, 1939 in Corsicana, TX. He married the love of his life, Charlotte Stuart and it was on the day that we celebrate love, he was reunited with her in heaven. Johnny moved his family in December 1976 to Anchorage, Alaska and worked for ARCO on the North Slope. He retired and returned to Texas in 1992. He worked in Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea from 1994-1996. He later worked for Schnieder Trucking and retired in 2004. Johnny most importantly loved spending time with his family. He was an avid trap shooter. Johnny was also a pilot, he and Charlotte loved flying their plane over the Alaskan glaciers and mountains together. John is preceded in death by his parents, David Marion Burrough and Bessie Jones Burrough, his sister, Billie Harris and his wife, Charlotte Ann Burrough. He is survived by daughter Terri Smith and husband David of Anchorage, AK; son David Lane Burrough of Van Vleck; grandchildren Dustin Curley, Jessica Corona, Bradley McInnis; great-grandchildren Roman Corona; Gabriel Corona, Nico Corona, Zuli Mae Corona, Jesse James Curley, Wyatt McInnis and Wesley McInnis.
