Theresa Brazil

Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Theresa Brazil, 53, of Markham, 1 p. m. Saturday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham.

Brazil died October 5, 1981 at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.

Officiating at the services will be the Rev. Rudolph Martin.

She is survived by husband, Lloyd Brazil of Markham; son, Albert Foss of Houston; foster son, Darvin Barnes of Markham; mother, Mrs. Rita Robinson of Houston; step-father, Joe Robinson; sister, Cleola Townsend of Brazoria.

Visitation hours are from 3 to 9 p. m. at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow services at Markham Cemetery.

Active pallbearers include Ned Brooks Jr., Nelson Sardinea, Harlan Hadden, Cedo Sardinea Jr., Bobbie Joe Flagg and Cleve Jones.

Theresa E. Brazil

On August 7, 1928, a baby girl was born to Rita Maxswell in Houston, Texas, whom she named Theresa.

In September, 1963, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Lloyd Brazil.

She joined the church at an early age and became a member of Grove Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Walker. She later moved to Markham, Texas. Here she united with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Rudolph Martin. She served faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher and worked dutifully in various departments of the church.

She departed this life on October 5, 1981 at 9:45 p. m. in John Sealy Hospital, Galveston, Texas. She leaves to mourn her passing, her devoted husband, Mr. Lloyd Brazil of Markham, one son, Albert Ross of Houston, one foster son, Darvin Barnes of Markham, mother, Mrs. Rita Robinson, stepfather, Joe Robinson of Danbury, one sister, Mrs. Cleola Townsend of Brazoria, mother-in-law, Mrs. Eva Barnes of Markham, Three sisters-in-law, Ernestine White of Pledger, Barbara O’Neal of Houston and Debra Byrd of Markham, two brothers-in-law, Willis Barnes and Elijah O’Neal of Houston, two step-granddaughters and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Hannah Brooks

Funeral services for Hannah Mae Brooks, 69, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Saturday at Jesus Free Will Holy Temple Church, Bay City, with Bishop J. Johnson officiating. Burial to follow at Markham Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 p. m. Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Brooks was born March 18, 1924 in Wharton to James David and Odessa Ashton Smith and died July 19, 1993 at Matagorda General Hospital.

She was a member of the Pentecostal church.

Survivors include five sisters, Lucille Amboree and Helen Woods of Houston, Agnes Brown, Eva Barnes and Myrtle George, all of Markham; three brothers, Bobby Flagg of Bay City, Billy Flagg of Freeport and Jesse Flagg of Markham; two brothers-in-law Travis Amboree and Roosevelt George; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Flagg, Carol A. Flagg and Wanda Flagg; a special friend, Sharon M. Spiller, a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and a family of friends who knew and loved her affectionately as “Mother Brooks.”

Pallbearers include Freddie Ray Brazil, Herbert Fields, Robert Green, Henry Green Jr., Michael Hurst, Dwight Sanford, Robert Stafford and Victor Stanford.

Honorary pallbearers include Travis Amboree, Willis Barnes, Frank Brown Jr., Billy Flagg, Bobby Flagg, Jesse Flagg, Roosevelt George, Jesus Temple Deaconess Board, Missionary Board and the Sanctuary Choir.

Lillie Brooks


Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Allen Brooks, age 77, of Markham, will be held Saturday, April 5, 1997, at 2 p. m., at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham, with Rev. James Ashton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Markham Community Cemetery in Markham.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Saturday from 1 to 2 p. m. at the church.

She was born in Bay City, Thursday, Nov. 6, 1919, to William Allen and Georgia Clay Allen, and passed away Monday, March 31, 1997, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham, where she served in several capacities. Her fraternal affiliations included memberships with the Progressive Order of Pilgrims and the Easter Star.

Survivors include a son, Ned Brooks, Jr., three daughters-in-law; seven grandchildren. Also one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Robinson of Bailey’s Prairie, and one brother, Major Allen of LaMarque. She also leaves two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Nancy Christopher of San Antonio, and Mrs. Alma Robinson of Bay City; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and a family of friends which include Ms. Lola Bonner.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Brooks, Sr., one son, Maxwell Wright, four sisters and one brother.

Serving as active pallbearers will be the Brotherhood of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, as well as Derrick Franklin, U. L. Bivens and Henry Green, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will include Ned Brooks, Jr., Ned Brooks, III, the Rev. Leonard Brooks, Major Allen, M. K. Robinson, Timothy Young, Sr. and Maxwell Wright, Jr.

Lillie Allen Brooks

In Matagorda County, Bay City, Texas, a daughter was born to William Allen and Georgia Clay Allen, Thursday, November 6, 1919. She was named Lillie Allen. Reared on Caney Creek, she shared her upbringing with five sisters and two brothers.

She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized. Along with her family, she became a member of the church in the community of her birth. Later in life, she united with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham, Texas. There, she was a faithful member, and served untiring in many capacities. Her fraternal affiliations included memberships with the Progressive Order of Pilgrims and the Eastern Star.

Miss Lillie Allen met and married Van Wright. To this union was born a son, Maxwell Wright. On Tuesday, February 24, 1942, after moving to Markham, Texas, she was united in marriage to Ned Brooks. This union was blessed with a son, Ned Brooks, Jr. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all she met. She was admired as “Mama Lillie” in the community, and will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.

Lillie Allen Brooks departed this life Monday, March 31, 1997, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City, Texas, at 77 years, 4 months and 25 days. By her passing, she leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Ned Brooks, Jr., three daughters-in-law; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Robinson of Bailey’s Prairie, and one brother, Major Allen of La Marque. Also two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Nancy Christopher of San Antonio and Mrs. Alma Robinson of Bay City. Also a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends which include Mrs. Lola Bonner.

Ned Ellis Brooks, Jr.
August 19, 1954 - October 13, 2015

Ned was born in Bay City, Texas, August 19, 1954 to Ned Brooks and Lillie Allen Brooks, and passed away October 13, 2015, in Victoria, Texas. He was a 1973 graduate of Tidehaven High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include five children; Ned E. Brooks III (and Phyliss), Notika E. Riddick (and Michael, II), Joshua L. Morales ( and Jean), Allen M. Brooks (and April) and Brianna C. Brooks. Also 14 grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Coatnie Wright and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Ned Ellis Brooks, Jr., 61, formerly of Markham, will be held Thursday, October 22 at 10 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Markham, Texas, with the Rev. James C. Ashton, Jr., pastor and the Rev. Michael A. Riddick, II, eulogist.

Burial will follow at Markham Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Church.

Ned E. Brooks Jr.

Ned Ellis Brooks Jr. was born in Bay City, Texas on August 19, 1954 to Ned Ellis and Lillie Allen Brooks.

Ned was raised with his older brother Maxwell Wright in Markham, Texas. His education was obtained in the Tidehaven public schools. He graduated from Tidehaven High School in 1973.

Ned served in the military of the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1975. He then joined and served in the Army Reserves.

He spent the majority of his adult life as a truck driver and security guard.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ned Brooks Sr.; mother Lillie Brooks; brother, Maxwell Wright.

Ned leaves to cherish his memory one sister-in-law Coatnie Wright, five children Ned E. Brooks III (Phyllis), Notika E. Reddick (Michael), Joshua L. Morales (Jean), Allen M. Brooks (April) and Brianna C. Brooks, 14 grandchildren, Destiny, Dominique, Nikolas, Aidan, Carson, Caden, Mykah, Noah, Matthew, Joshua Jr., India, Daymien, Mariah and Jasmine.

Ned Brooks, Sr.

Ned Brooks, Sr.

Ned Brooks, Sr. was a husband, father, brother, grandfather “papa,” a counselor, a friend and much more to his family, friends and other people in the community where he lived for many years.

Brother Brooks, ordained Deacon of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on January 23, 1966, had already committed his life to Christ and concerned about doing his Master’s Will. He was always concerned about God’s Church and the Church family. He lived a totally committed life, so committed that men came to Christ to claim him as their personal Saviour. Nothing was too hard or too little for him to do for the church.

He was chairman of the Deacon Board, President Emeritus of the Brotherhood, Church Treasurer, Benevolent Chairman, member of the Pastor’s Aide and he served in many more positions as a member and lay leader of the Church. Before his illness, he was very dutiful in all positions he held and he served well. He has left a spiritual legacy to his family, the church and community will get to know his Saviour, so they too may join the Heavenly Host.

Ned Brooks, Sr., the second child born to Sinclair and Melissa Griffin Brooks in Edna, Texas on July 15, 1915.

He confessed Christ at an early age and united with the New Salem Baptist Church in Ganado under the leadership of Rev. P. L. White. During his adult years, he moved to Markham, Texas and joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where he served faithfully and untiring even during his illness until he was totally disabled. His conversation was still about God’s Church.

He married Lillie Allen on February 24, 1942 and this union remained until his death. A beautiful union it was for 44 years plus.

Survivors are a loving devoted Christian wife, Mrs. Lillie Brooks, two sons, Maxwell Wright of Houston, and Ned Brooks, Jr. of Markham; 5 grandchildren, 2 daughters-in-law, one sister, Mrs. Nancy Christopher of San Antonio, three brothers, Riley and Curtis Brooks of Los Angeles, Calif., Rev. Leonard Brooks of La Marque, 2 step-sisters, Mrs. Nannie L. Miller of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Millie Mae Brooks of Edna, two step-brothers, Charles A. Hill of Temple and Willie Hill of Bay City, a host of nieces, nephews and a number of cousins and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, the Rev. James Ashton Jr. officiating.

A Life to be Remembered

Agnes Marie Brown was born to Clay and Odessa Brazil on February 14, 1934 in Midfield, Tx.

She attended public school in Sweet Home, Tx. She accepted Christ at an early age. She moved to Houston, Tx. where she lived most of her life. She united in Holy Matrimony twice during her lifetime.

Later she returned home to Markham, Tx., and united with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J. C. Ashton, Jr.

She answered her call to be with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 29, 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents Clay and Odessa Brazil, one son Freddie Ray Brazil, one brother Clayton Brazil, four sisters, Hannah Mae, Patricia, Lucille and Helen.

She leaves behind many loving memories to her loving and devoted family which includes three children Charlene Smith (Robert) of Houston, Tx., Frank Brown, Jr., Cassandra Ellison of Markham, Tx., Two sisters Eva Barnes and Myrtle George of Markham, Tx., four brothers, Jessie Flagg of Markham, Tx., Billie Joe Flagg of Freeport, Tx., Bobby Joe Flagg of El Campo and Alford Blackmon of Van Vleck, Tx. One sister-in-law, Carolyn Sue Flagg of Bay City and one daughter-in-law Nelly Brazil of Houston. Nine grandchildren, Jordal, Marie, Freddie, Jr., Fonett, Keyonte, Nikia, Fredricka, DeLisa and Carl Jr. Ten great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Delphina Sardinea Brown, 84, of Houston, Texas will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham, Texas with the Rev. James C. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 29, 2002 from 12 noon, until 8 p.m. Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. She was born to the union of John Sardinea and Mary McCall in Allenhurst, Texas. She passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in Houston, Texas. She leaves her memories to nieces, Ora Sardinea Fields and Archie of Galveston, Sharon Sardinea Kuykendall and A. C. of Houston, Pamela Field Jefferson and Edward of Pearland, Texas, Ednika Williams of Houston; nephews, Andrew Sardinea, Sr and Gertrudeof Houston, Lonnie Sardinea, Jr. of Bay City and Cedo Sardinea and Willie Mae and Nelson Sardinea of Markham and a host of other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by six brothers, Cedo Sardinea, Sr., Amelio Sardinea, Levo Sardinea, William Miller, Charlie Williams, and Rouge Burnett and three sisters, Everline Sardinea Toussant, Lonnie Stephens and Sarah Allen.

Delphina Sardinea Brown

On August 20, 1917, a baby girl was born to John Sardinea and Mary McCall Sardinea, in Allenhurst, Texas. They named her Delphina Sardinea. She grew up in the community of her birth and attended Public School.

She accepted Christ as Lord and Savior at an early age. She was grateful of the love and care provided by her nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.

Her transition from this life came Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at Hermann South in Houston, Texas at the age of eighty-four. Delephina leaves to mourn her, but always to love and let her many loving memories remain in their hearts by continuing to show love and kindness to others: some special nieces and nephews, Ora Sardinea Fields (Archie) of Galveston, Sharon Sardinea Kuykendall (AC) of Houston, Ednika Williams of Houston, Andrew Sardinea, Sr. (Gertrude) of Houston, and Lonnie Sardinea, Jr. of Bay City; Cedo Sardinea, Jr. (Willie May) of Markham, Nelson Sardinea of Markham, and Pamela Fields (Edward) of Pearland; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by six brothers, Cedo Sardinea, Sr., Amelio Sardinea, Levo Sardinea, William Miller, Charlie Williams and Rouge Burnett and three sisters, Everlina Sardinea Toussant, Lonnie Stephens and Sarah Allen.

Ethel L. Reddic Brown

Ethel L. Reddic Brown, the daughter of Mrs. L. E. Reddic and the late Mr. Sylvester Reddic was born on November 6, 1944 in Matagorda County, Texas.

She united with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. A. J. Williams.

She was married to Mr. Lee Andrew Brown. To this union three children were born, two daughters, Bridgett and Sherry Ann and one son, Dexter.

Mrs. Ethel L. Reddic Brown passed on December 2, 1972 at 12:28 a. m. in Matagorda General Hospital at Bay City, Texas. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Mr. Lee Andrew Brown, two daughters, Bridgett and Sherry Ann; one son, Dexter of Bay City; Mother, Mrs. L. E. Reddic of Markham; four brothers, Billy and Isaac of Houston, Willie and Callis of Markham and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 7, 1972, 2:00 p. m., at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, in Markham, Texas, with Rev. A. T. Aldridge officiating.
