MARKHAM - Funeral services for Eva Barnes, 78, of Markham, who passed away May 20, 2008, will be held Saturday, May 24, 2008, at 11 a.m., at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Markham, with the Rev. James Ashton Jr., eulogist. Burial will follow at Markham Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2 until 8 p.m. at the chapel.

She was the daughter of the late Clay Brazil and Odessa Ashton Brazil.

Michael D. Barnes

 

Michael DeShawn Barnes, 17, of Houston, will be held at 1 p. m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham with the Rev. James Ashton officiating. Burial will be at Markham Cemetery in Markham.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Mr. Barnes was born July 29, 1975 in Bay City to Debra Barnes and died May 25, 1993 at Hermann Hospital in Houston.

He was a member of the Baptist church and a high school student.

Survivors include his mother, Debra Barnes of Markham; his father, Wilbert Byrd of Houston; five sisters, Tasheba, Chandilyn, Mona, Shaquita and Monica Byrd of Houston; two grandmothers, Eva Barnes of Markham and Alma Lou Burnett of Houston; a grandfather, J. C. Alexander Sr. of Brazoria; three aunts, Ernestine White of Wharton, Alma Faye Burnett of Houston and Faye Alexander of Dallas; six uncles, Lloyd Brazil of Markham, Willis Barnes of Huntsville, James Alexander, Jr. of Bay City and Albert Byrd, Archie Burnett and Larry Burnett of Houston; seven great-aunts; five great-uncles; four nieces; two great-great-aunts and uncles; and host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Darvin Barnes.

Pallbearers will be the Rev. James Ashton, Dwight Sanford, Darrell Campbell, Johnny Brooks, Randolph Hercules, Larry Sanford, Ernest C. Brinkley and Emmanuel Bree.

Honorary pallbearers are Wilbert Byrd, James Alexander Jr., Willis Barnes, Archie Burnett, Bobby Flagg, Roosevelt George, Jesse Flagg, Harlan Hadden, J. C. Alexander Sr., Lloyd Brazil, Albert Byrd, Larry Burnett, Billie Flagg, Travis Amboree, Elijah O’Neal and Alvin Cooper.

Willis Jay Barnes

Funeral Services for Willis Jay Barnes, 51, will be 2 p. m on Saturday Sept. 18, 1999 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham with the Rev. James Ashton, Jr. officiating.

Interment will follow at Markham Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. on Friday in the funeral home chapel and from 1-2 p. m. on Saturday at the church.

Barnes died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999. He was born Friday, August 13, 1948 in Midfield, Tex. to Tom Barnes and Eva Brazil Barnes.

Willis Jay Barnes

On Friday, August 13, 1948, a baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Barnes, Jr. in Midfield, Texas whom they named, Willis Jay Barnes.

His upbringing was surrounded by his siblings, family and friends.

He attended public school in the community of his birth where he enjoyed life to the fullest.

His spiritual affiliation began at an early age in life. His spiritual growth enabled him to face life right in the face and smile.

BAY CITY [Matagorda County, Texas] - Funeral services for Lawrence Batties, 56, of Bay City, who passed away Dec. 10, 2007, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 at Bethel Baptist Church in Bay City, with the Rev. L.C. Cunningham Jr., eulogist. Burial will follow at Markham Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. today at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

Lawrence Batties

On Monday, October 16, 1951, a son was born to now the late Irving Batties and Menervia Ferrel Batties, in Markham, Texas. He was named Lawrence Batties, and shared his upbringing with his siblings, other relatives and friends.

He grew up in the community of his birth. There, he attended public school along with his schoolmates.

Throughout life, Lawrence held firm to his belief in God, and kept the faith.

His earthly journey came to an end on Monday, December 10, 2007, in Bay City, Texas.

He leaves behind, a devoted and special friend, Kenechia Sims of Bay City, one sister, Daisy Anderson of Egypt, Texas, and two brothers and sisters-in-law, John L. Batties, Johnnie B. Batties (& Angela Rene), and Mary Phillips, all of Bay City, Texas. Also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his loving parents, Irving Batties and Menervia Batties, three sisters, Vivian Brown Whalon, Mary Alice Brown Barnes and Christine Johnson; one brother-in-law, W. J. Whalon.

Minerva Batties

Minerva Batties

On June 9, 1909, a baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Willie Ferrel.

She confessed Christ at an early age in Markham, Texas. She lived in Markham for a number of years and later she moved to Bay City, Texas.

Here she remained until she passed away on November 30, 1981 at 7:45 A. M. in Matagorda General Hospital. She leaves behind to cherish her loving memories, four sons, Johnnie B. Batties, Johnnie L. Batties, Paul Batties and Lawrence Batties of Bay City, three daughters, Mary Alice Barnes of Bay City, Christine Johnson of Bay City and Vivian Whalon of Hungerford, also 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grands and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
