Billy Joe Flagg

 

Specialist Billy Joe Flagg the son of the late Jessie Lee Flagg Sr. and Odessa Ashton Brazil Flagg was born May 31, 1943 in El Maton, Texas.

 

He confessed Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. H. T. Aldridge at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.

 

He shared his upbringing with his loving family and many friends. He attended public school at A Jefferson Elementary/Jr. High School.

 

Billy Joe served in the military of the United States Army from November 14, 1967 to November 18, 1969. He was awarded Meritorious Service while serving with the 20th Engineer Brigade in the Republic of Vietnam during the period of April 1968-1969.

 

Billy Joe Flagg departed this life on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Veterans Hospital in Houston, Tx. By his passing he leaves to cherish many loving memories to his devoted family which include his twin brother Bobby Joe Flagg of Bay City, brother-in-law Travis Amboree of Houston, Tx; devoted nieces Willie Mae Sardinea of Markham, Tx. and Debra Byrd of Houston, Tx; two devoted cousins, Mrs. Jean Edwards and Mrs. Classic Johnson of El Campo, Tx.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Odessa; seven sisters, Hannah Brooks, Lucille Amboree, Helen Flagg, Patricia Murdoch, Agnes Brown, Eva Barnes and Myrtle Sanford; two brothers Clay Brazil Sr., and Jessie Lee Flagg, Jr.

Funeral services for Billy Joe Flagg, 73, of Markham, Texas will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham.

 

Burial will follow at Markham Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City.

Life's Reflections

Jessie Lee Flagg, Jr., son of now the late Jessie Lee Flagg, Sr. and Odessa Brazil Flagg, was born in El Maton, Texas on Saturday, June 7, 1941. He shared his upbringing with his loving family and many friends.

He attended school at A. Jefferson School and was a member of the 1960 Class of Hilliard High School.

He was married to Wanda Williams Flagg, and was loved by his family and many friends he met. Throughout life, he kept the faith.

Jessie Flagg's departure from this life came Sunday, October 24, 2010, in Bay City, Texas. By his passing, he leaves to cherish many loving memories to a devoted family which includes three loving children, Todd Flagg (Diane), Jess Lee Flagg, III (Allison), and Lisa Flagg and their mother, Wanda, all of Bay City; one sister, Myrtle Sanford of Markham; two brothers, Billy Flagg of Freeport and Bobby Flagg of Markham; brother-in-law, Travis Amboree of Houston; four grandchildren, Terrance Flagg, Parris Bree, Kevin Brown, Tamika Brown, and one great-granddaughter. Also, a host of nieces and nephews which include two devoted nieces, Willie Mae Sardinea of Markham and Debra Byrd of Houston and a host of other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Hannah Brooks, Lucille Amboree, Helen Flagg, Patricia Murdoch, Agnes Brown, and Eva Barnes; and one brother, Clay Brazil, Sr.

Odessie Ashton Flagg

On May 29, 1908, a baby girl was born to Mr. & Mrs. Richard Ashton, whom they named Odessie.

She united with the Baptist Church at an early age. She later united with Pilgrim Rest Church in Markham, Texas.

She met and married Mr. Clay Brazil and to this union six children were born. Later in life she met and married Mr. Jessie Flagg and to this union five children were born.

On December 9, 1984, the Lord called Sister Odessie Flagg home. She leaves to mourn her passing seven daughters, Mrs. Lucille Amboree, Mrs. Agnes Brown, Mrs. Helen Woods and Mrs. Patricia Murdock all of Houston, Mrs. Eva Barnes and Mrs. Myrtle George of Markham, Mrs. Hannah Brooks of Bay City, four sons, Clayton, Bobby and Billy of Bay City, Jesse of Markham, thirty-two grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grands, four great-great-grands, one sister, Mrs. Hattie Hill of Wharton, one devoted son-in-law, Mr. Travis Amboree, a devoted daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carolyn Flagg of Bay City and a large number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Wanda Flagg-Davis, 71, of Bay City, Texas will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at  2 p.m. at Mother Zion Baptist Church in Markham, Texas.

Burial will follow at Markham Cemetery.

Gerri (Michelle) Hebert Franklin

Funeral Services for Gerri (Michelle) Hebert Franklin, 38, of Bay City, will be held at 2 p. m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999 at Mt. Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Markham with Elder Fred Jones officiating.

Interment will follow at Markham Cemetery in Markham.

Visitation will be Friday afternoon until 9 p. m. and family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p. m. in the chapel at Green’s Mortuary.

Michelle will lie in state from 1 p. m. to 2 p. m. at Mt. Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Markham.

She died Nov. 17, 1999 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City, Tex. She was born Feb. 22, 1961 to Dolphine and Curly Austin.

She graduated from Bay City High School in 1980.

Survivors include: husband, Michael Franklin of Bay City; two daughters, Valencia Franklin and Andria Franklin of Bay City; mother, Dolphine Hebert of Bay City; one sister and brother-in-law, Devora Barefield and Robert of Bay City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Sharon Hebert of Bay City, Dorsey Kirk Hebert and Brenda of El Campo, and Elder Duane Hebert and Rhonda of Markham; grandmother, Ezell Porter of Bay City; mother-in-law, Oja Mae Franklin of Wharton; sister-in-law, Patricia A. Bess and husband Ray of Bay City; brothers-in-law, James R. Davis of El Campo, Stephen C. Gardener of Houston, and Jerrell D. Davis of Bay City; a host of nieces, nephews and an enormous family of cousins and other relatives.

She had a family of loving friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Curly Austin.

Active pallbearers will include: Elder Jesse Williams, Elder Anthony P. Wade, Deacon Malcom Burton, Deacon Jessie Davis, Elder Lerome Dixon, Deacon Marvin Lewis, Deacon Kenneth Jones, and Terry Bass.

Honorary pallbearers will include: Michael Hebert, Dorsey Kirk Hebert, Ray A. Bass, Jerrall Davis, J. J. Davis, John and Marks Sr., Septimus Joseph, Elder Duane Hebert, Robert Barfield, Patrick Hosay, James Davis, Troy Davis, and Deacon Archie McDaniels.

Johnnie Franklin

Funeral services for Johnnie Franklin, 66, of Markham, will be held 12:30 p. m. at Mount Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Markham with Elder Fred Jones officiating. Burial will be at Markham Cemetery, Markham. Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Mr. Franklin was born July 9, 1926 in Danevang to Alonzo Franklin and Lula Gibson-Franklin and died May 1, 1993 at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was a resident of Markham and a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Ojia Franklin of Markham; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Ray Bess Jr. of Markham and Rhonda and Duane Hebert of Markham; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Gerri Franklin of Markham, James and Jerrell Davis of Markham and Steven Gardner of Markham; seven grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Franklin; a previous wife, Mollie Clay Franklin, in 1972; and two brothers, Lawrence Franklin and Roy Franklin.

Pallbearers will be Larome Dixon, Kenneth Jones, Kenneth W. F. Jones, Cedo Sardinea Jr., Chester Lewis, Leonard Fisher and Bennie Spencer. Honorary pallbearers are Michael V. Franklin, Craig Gardner, Duane Hebert, Jerrell Davis Jr., Ray Bess Jr. and James Davis.

EDUCATION
He received formal education through El Maton Public School System. He was a World War II Veteran of the U. S. Army where he received an Honorable Discharge.

MARITAL STATUS
In 1965, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Mollie Bell Clay. This couple was blessed with three children, Patricia Ann, Rhonda Fay and Michael Von Roy. In 1979, he was married to Ojia Mae Johnson. Three sons were acquired, James Davis, Jerrell Davis and Steven Gardner.

SURVIVORS
He went home to be with the Lord on May 1, 1993. He leaves his many loving memories to his wife of 14 years, Ojia Franklin, two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Ray Bess, Jr., Rhonda and Duane Hebert, four sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Gerri Franklin, James and Jerrell Davis, Steven Gardner, seven grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.

He preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mrs. Mollie Franklin on April 12, 1972, two brothers, Roy and Lawrence Franklin.

Carmelita Gonzales

Carmelita Gonzales, 60, a longtime resident of Bay City, Texas, passed away January 11, 2013 to be with her heavenly father in heaven.

Burial will follow immediately after the service at Cedarvale North Cemetery in Bay City.

Carmelita Gonzales was born in Robstown, Texas. She is survived by: her sisters, Herminia Gonzales, Olivia Gonzales Cantu, Minerva Gonzales Zboral; brothers, Robert Gonzales and Raul Gonzales; and numerous of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Carmelita Gonzales will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, San Juana Gonzales and Victor Gonzales; sisters, Emma Gonzales Munguia, Orelia Gonzales Martinez, Anita Gonzales Garza, and Sylvia Gonzales; and brother, Willie Gonzales.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Garza, Sr., Guadalupe Zboral III, Zachary Garcia-Zboral, Willie Zboral and Arthur Benavides, Jr.

Burial will follow immediately after the services at Markham Cemetery.

Irene Green

Irene Farris Green

On April 24, 1892, a baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wonder Farris on Caney near Cedar Lane, Texas, whom they named, Irene.

Irene grew up in the Caney Community, and attended public school there.

At a very early age in life, she became a member of the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church and was baptized. Later, she moved to Markham, Texas, and became a member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Sister Green worked in many capacities and activities of the church, and was a dutiful Superintendent and President of the Mission for a number of years. She also was active in the Independent District Association, and kept her Christian attitude.

She met and married Rev. Green. No children were born to this union; however, she reared her niece, Pearl Sauceda from a baby.

Her beautiful life came to an end on June 13, 1987, Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City, Texas, at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 20 days. By her passing her memories will always be cherished by her daughter, Mrs. Pearl Mangum of Van Vleck, 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; 5 nieces, Mrs. Pearl Jones of Markham and Mrs. Sophie Green of Markham, Mrs. Leona Jenkins and Mrs. Shirley Farris of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Eliza Harris of California, one nephew, Andrew Jenkins of Perris, California, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and a church family and community of friends who loved her dearly.

Life Reflections

Harlan Duane Hadden Sr., the son of Andrew Sardinea Sr. and Barbara Jean Hadden was born August 23, 1966 in Bay City, Texas. He shared his upbringing with his loving family and many friends.

Harlan attended Tidehaven ISD.

Harlan confessed his love for Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. During his adult life, Harlan was blessed with many occupations. He was a carpenter, contractor, grass worker and a minister for Christ.

Harlan's departure from this life was on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in Seguin, TX. By his passing he leaves to mourn and cherish many loving memories to a devoted family which includes his father Andrew Sardinea Sr. (Gertrude) of Houston, TX., two sons: Harlan Duane Hadden Jr. [Skooter] and Chris R. Byrd Sr. of Bay City, TX; three brothers, Tony Hadden of Beeville, TX, Derrick Brown (Theresa) of Markham and Andrew Sardinea Jr. [Laby Jr.] of Bay City, TX. Two sisters, Sharon Leatrice Hadden (Joseph) of Sweeny, TX and Tara Flye of Houston, TX. Aunts: Debra Byrd (Robert) of Houston, TX, Ernestine White of Kendleton, Ora Fields of Galveston, TX and Sharon Sardinea of Markham, TX. Great aunts: Myrtle Sanford of Markham, TX, Edna Ruth Adams of Blessing, TX, Inez Gloria Jones of Houston, TX.
