Sarah Anice (McFarland) {Botsford} Swartzell

Anice and Lelon Potter Botsford (May 25, 1883 - 1932) were the parents of Second Lieutenant Edward Potter Botsford (July 28, 1916 - May 5, 1943), United States Army Air Forces who is buried at Hawley Cemetery near Blessing, Matagorda County, Texas.  He was raised by an aunt and uncle, Mildred and Roscoe Strough, from an early age. Sarah married second Raymond Burns Swartzell in Florida in April 1963. It is unknown where his parents are buried. He was killed in an aircraft training accident in New Jersey.  Also surviving him were his wife Grace Pearl (Pierce) {Botsford} Adams and a daughter Anne. Grace is a native of Matagorda County. His wife as of May 2007 is living in Florida.

Chona (Gatica) Chavez
December 12, 1885 - July 7, 1941

Chona is buried at Matagorda Cemetery, her husband Ralph Chavez (August 5, 1869 - June 10, 1937) is buried in a lost grave at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.  Their son, Private Ralph Gatica Chavez (January 5, 1921 - February 29, 1944), United States Army, died from an unknown cause, most likely a training accident or from illness while billeted with his unit at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire County, England. He was serving with 36^th Armored Infantry Regiment (Blitz Doughs), 3^rd Armored Division (Spearhead).  At the time of his death most of his family was living in Matagorda County and he was survived by two sisters: Mrs. Martino Hernandez of Bay City and Miss Mary Chavez of Palacios; two brothers: Disidferio of Palacios and Placedo of New Gulf.

Patsy (Boone) Parks

____ __, 1870 – September 13, 1922

Patsy and her husband Lee Parks (____ __, 1870 - ____ __, ____) are the parents of Private Timothy Parks (December 24, 1895 – November 26, 1918) who died of the Spanish Flu at Camp Travis, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.  It is unknown where his grave or their graves are located. It is believed they are buried in the Cedar Lane, Matagorda County, Texas area.

Louisiana (Edison) Powell

November __, 1867 – October 28, 1929

Louisiana and her husband James are presumed to be buried in the Cedar Lane area, the location of their graves is unknown.  Their son Private Johnnie Powell (July __, 1894 – October 19, 1918) U. S. Army died at the Base Hospital Camp Bowie, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas of the Spanish Flu.  He was in training prior to shipment overseas to France.  At the time of his death his family lived at Cedar Lane, Texas.

Laura (Kimble) Warren

December __, 1875 - ____ __, ____)

There is insufficient information available.  There is no marriage registration in Matagorda County, Texas for William Warren and Laura Kimble, believed to be the parents of Eugene Warren. A best guess analysis of the Pct 4, Matagorda County, Texas Federal Census concerning the Kimble and Warren families reveals that there appears to be at least a separation between William and Laura.  William appears to have returned to his father’s home (Jake Warren) without taking any of the children with him.  Laura appears to have at least temporarily moved in with a Henry Hudge, as his cook.  She has Eugene with her.  It appears their other child, Skinner Warren has been left in the care of his Grandparents, Reddick and Mary J. (Amboree) Kimble.  There appears to be a conflict in the date of birth for the two boys.
