Dock married Fletcher Long. She was the daughter of Robert and Martha Marthenia Long and was born May 24, 1899 in Sealy, Austin County, Texas and died July 15, 1939 at Caney Valley Hospital in Wharton, Wharton County, Texas. At the time of her death, the family was living in Newgulf. She was buried at Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery in Newgulf, Wharton County, Texas.

Funeral services for Paul Penrice, Sr., 87, of New Gulf will be Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 11:00 a. m. at Old Bethlehem Baptist Church in New Gulf with the Rev. Ray Felder Penrice officiating. Burial will be at Old Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery. He died Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at his residence. He served as Treasurer and was a faithful member of Old Bethlehem Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Penrice of New Gulf; three sons, Paul Penrice, Jr. of New Gulf, Bobby Penrice of Pledger and Ray W. Penrice of West Columbia; three daughters, Loretta Branch (Archie), Brenda Washington (Bennie), all of Angleton, and Ada L. Johnson (Luther Jr.), of Houston; one brother, Wallace Penrice of Houston; five sisters, Elizabeth Quiller of Hempstead, Mable Roberts of Rosenberg, Doretha White (Joe), of Houston, Doris Hillard [Heard] of Palacios and Martha Williams of Bay City; sister-in-law, Eva Davis of Bay City; one uncle, Huey Long of Houston; one aunt, Roberta Gaines of Houston; 21 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. MARTHA LONG DAVIS-WILLIAMS
SUNRISE March 16, 1920 – SUNSET May24, 2014. Martha Long
Davis-Williams was born March 16, 2920 in Lane City, Texas to the
late Dock and Fletcher Long-Davis. She was the second of six
children. She grew up in Pledger, Texas and graduated with honors as
class salutatorian from Wharton Training High School. She accepted
Christ at an early age and joined Old Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Later she united with Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and was a
faithful member for over 70 years. She served on the Usher Board,
Superintendent of Sunday School and a member of Mission #2. Martha
met and married the late Edmond Williams (Babe) in 1939. They
remained married for over 29 years. She was a loving wife, mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She graduated from
Wharton County Junior College in September 1962 with a License
Vocational Nursing Degree. She practiced as an LVN for 27 years with
the Matagorda County Hospital District (Matagorda Hospital) in the
areas of Intensive Care, O. B., and Emergency Room where she served
as night supervisor until her retirement in March 1985. In her
early adult years, she developed a keen intellectual curiosity for
traveling, knotting and baking her famous pound cake which the
family truly loved. She also knotted Afghans for all her grand and
great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Dock
and Fletcher Long-Davis; husband, Edmond Williams, son, James
Williams; sibling, Paul Penrice, Elsie Davis-Heard, Thelma Davis
Bradshaw and Ernest Davis. Martha leaves to cherish her memory , a
daughter Nancy Williams-Barrett of Arlington, Texas; son, Edmond
Williams of Bay City, Texas, sister, Doris Davis-Heard of Palacios,
Texas; daughter-in-law, Betty Williams of Austin, Texas;
sister-in-law, Eva Draper-Davis of Bay City, Texas; grandchildren,
DeForrest Williams-Allen (Samuel), Kimberly Williams-Thompson,
Carol Barrett-Norris (Robert), Adam Jackson (Diane), Melina
Williams, Ednika Williams and Edquita Swain, 15 great-grandchildren,
a month old great great grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, and
other relatives and friends.
EDMOND WILLIAMS
On August 16, 1909 in Cedar Lane, Texas Matagorda County
a son
was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Williams. The family moved to
Bay City, Texas in his early childhood. He confessed Christ under
the pastorate of the late Rev. H. L. Body. In 1939 he was united in
Holy Matrimony to Martha L. Davis; to this union was born two sons
and one daughter. Brother Williams served as President of the first
Male Chorus in Bay City. He worked with the B.Y.P.U. and served on
the Trustee Board until his demise. He leaves to mourn a wife,
Martha Long-Davis, a mother Mrs. Jessie Williams, two sons, James
Carl and Edmond Jessie, one daughter Nancy Carol, three
granddaughters, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and
friends.
JAMES CARL WILLIAMS
James Carl Williams was born in Bay City, Texas on September 29,
1940 to the late Edmond and Martha Davis-Williams. He was the eldest
of three children. He was a product of Bay City Public School
System. He graduated for Hilliard High School and received a B. S.
Degree from Prairie View A & M University. Upon receiving his
degree, he was commissioned in the U.S. Army. He also attended the
University of Texas at Austin. James taught school in Van Vleck,
Texas and Port Arthur, Texas for two years each, he also taught at
Gary Job Corps for 7 years. He established a Real Estate Business in
Austin and here he was practicing to become an Independent Broker
until his death. He accepted Christ at an early age under the
leadership of Rev. L. C. Cunningham. He was united in Holy Matrimony
to Miss Betty L. Johnson of Hearne, Texas. To this union two
daughters were born, DeForrest Lynn and Kimberly Nichelle. His life
came to an end at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas on
Saturday, September 27, 1986 at 4:45 p.m. His many memories will
always be cherished by his loving and faithful wife Betty
Johnson-Williams; two daughters DeForrest Lynn and Kimberly Nichelle
of Austin; his mother , Mrs. Martha Davis-Williams of Bay City; one
sister, Mrs. Nancy Williams-Barrett of Arlington; one brother,
Edmond Jesse Williams of Austin; two aunts, Mrs. Elsie Davis-Heard
of Bay City and Mrs. Doris Davis-Heard of Palacios, two uncles,
Ernest Davis of Bay City and Paul Penrice of New Gulf; eight nieces,
six nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ernest Dock Davis
Ernest Dock Davis,
the son of Dock Davis and Fletcher Ora Long-Davis, was born in Bay
City, Texas, Tuesday, August 16, 1927. He was the sixth child born
to this family, and shared his upbringing with relatives and
friends. He was reared in the community of his birth, and attended
public school in the Pledger and New Gulf communities. He became a
Christian at an early age and was baptized at the Old Bethlehem
Baptist Church in the New Gulf community, under the pasturage of now
the late Rev. G. T. McBeth. Ernest Davis was united in Holy
Matrimony to Miss Eva Mae Draper of Bay City. This union was blessed
with two children, a daughter, Marcella Davis and a son Ernest W.
Davis. They were a loving family who demonstrated love one for the
other. He will be sorely missed by his family and those he shared
his earthly journey. Upon moving to Bay City, he united with Bethel
Baptist Church under the pasturage of now the late Rev. L. C.
Cunningham, Sr. He was a dutiful and loyal member. There he served
as a Trustee, Deacon, Financial Secretary and member of the Usher
Board. He retired from the Texas Highway Department as Utility
Inspector, and was a friend to all mankind. Ernest Davis’ transition
from this life came on Thursday, June 19, 2003, in Houston, Texas.
He leaves many loving memories to his devoted wife of 53 years, Eva
Mae Draper-Davis of the home, and one daughter , Marcella
Davis-Trotter (Henry) of Austin, Texas, and a son, Ernest W. Davis
(Rochelle) of Austin, Texas; and four grandsons, Reginald Trotter,
Gregory Trotter, Dexter Davis and Derek Davis, all of Austin; also
one brother Paul Penrice (Eleanor) of New Gulf, and two sisters ,
Martha Davis-Williams of Bay City, and Doris Davis-Heard of
Palacios. Also one uncle, Huey Long, and one aunt, Robertha
Long-Gaines, both of Houston, Texas, a host of nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Dock and Fletcher-Long-Davis, two sisters, Elsie
Davis-Heard and Thelma Davis-Bradshaw, and one granddaughter, Eboni
Marie Trotter. |
