As a result of the postings, Dolores White sent this photo of an early Collegeport business, and information about the owners, Daniel & Cora Dell McKitrick Oneth who were her grandparents. The Oneths operated “The Pioneer Flour, Feed & Groceries” between 1910 and 1912. She writes, “My father, Glenn Oneth was their last child (of 11), born February 9, 1910 above the store, where they lived.” The Oneths moved to Oklahoma in 1912.
The Mopac House was constructed from materials salvaged from the Collegeport RR Depot. Through the efforts of Harry Austin Clapp, Missouri-Pacific Lines donated the depot to the Collegeport Industrial League for use as a Community Center in 1933. The following photos were found in the archives of the Matagorda County Museum in Bay City. They show the depot prepared for moving. The building had been split in two and was awaiting its move to Block 105 in Collegeport. Newspaper archives tell us that just prior to the move, a hurricane ripped thru Collegeport and collapsed the freight depot section. Hence, the building was dismantled, moved and re-built as Mopac House which opened May 4, 1935.
