Funeral services for the Rev. Charles Ray Law, 30, of Cedar Lane are scheduled for 2 p. m. Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with Bishop H. W. Falls officiating. Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lane.
Visitation hours are from 1 – 5 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel and from 7 – 9 p. m. at New Zion Temple Church in Houston.
Rev. Law was born June 24, 1953 in Matagorda County and died Nov. 10, 1983 at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Lake Charles, La.
He was the son of Roosevelt Law, deceased, and Josephine (Wright) Law. He was a superintendent at Gulf Coast Gunite Company and a resident of Cedar Lane. Mr. Law was an ordained minister at New Zion Temple Church in Houston.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Gladys Marie Law of Cedar Lane; seven children, Sara, Annie, Christie, Enquiet, Leola, Rayshawn and Darlan; mother, Mrs. Josephine Law of Cedar Lake; four sisters, Mrs. Ruby Grover of Harker Heights, Tex., Mrs. Diane Kindle of Houston, Mrs. Thelma Barnes of Cedar Lake and Mrs. Wanda Harrison of Austin, Texas; four brothers, Thomas Law and Roosevelt Law, Jr., both of Houston, Benjamin Law and Alex Law, Jr., both of Indiana; grandfather, Benjamin Wright of Brazoria, five aunts and two uncles.
The active pallbearers are Larry Gene Fields, Chester Ray Kemp, Jr., Murray Griggs, Jr., Charles Kindle, Lawrence Burnett and Abraham Jones.
The honorary pallbearers are the Rev. Ned Lee, Clifford Bernard, Gary Austin, John L. Barnes, Rodney Griggs and Eugene Fields, Jr.

Law, Roosevelt Sr., passed away March 16 at age 62. Law, a resident of Cedar Lake, is survived by his widow, Josephine Law, Cedar Lake; four daughters, Ruby L. Groover, Harker Heights, Texas; Diane Law, Houston and Thelma and Wanda Law, Cedar Lake. Also, five sons, Thomas of Omaha, Neb.; Roosevelt of New York; Benjamin of the U. S. Army in South Carolina; Alex of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Charles of Harker Heights. Other survivors are five sisters, Emaline Webb, Sweeny; Naomi Johnson and Carrie Gee, Brazoria; Alberta Gee and Ruby Cole, Houston and 11 grandchildren. Services were held Sunday, March 19 at 12:15 p. m. in the Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, with the Rev. L. L. Brown officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery. Services arranged by Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Roosevelt Law, Sr.
Deacon Roosevelt Law, Sr., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Law, was born June 10, 1910, at Cedar Lake, Matagorda County, Texas.
At an early age he confessed faith in Christ and became a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church.
He married Miss Josephine Wright in 1934. To this union nine children were born.
He was ordained as a deacon of the Bethlehem Christian Church in 1963 and has served as an usher of the church for approximately sixteen years.
He held membership in the Masonic Lodge No. 1818 of Brazoria, Texas.
He departed this life Thursday, March 16, 1972. Within his immediate family are: a devoted wife, Mrs. Josephine Law; four daughters, Mrs. Ruby L. Groover of Harker Heights, Diane of Houston, Thelma and Wanda of Cedar Lake; five sons, Thomas of Omaha, Nebraska; Roosevelt of New York; Benjamin of South Carolina; Alex of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Charles of Harker Heights; eleven grandchildren; five sisters, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were held at Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, Texas with interment in Cedar Lake [Bethlehem] Cemetery.

She died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital, Lake Jackson, Tex. She was born in Cedar Lake, Texas, Saturday, Feb. 13, 1937, to Eddie Woodard, Sr. and Helen Spiller Woodard. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Law, a baby girl on October 19, 1894, in Matagorda County, Texas, whom they named Hattie A. She grew up and attended school in the Gainesmore Community. She confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church. After moving to the Jerusalem Community. She united with the Jerusalem Baptist Church and was a faithful member until her death. She met and married Mr. Harrison Woodard in 1918 and to this union four children were born. After his death she met and married Mr. Johnny Marshall who also preceded her in death. She was a member of choir, adult Sunday School Teacher, president of the President Council at Jerusalem and also in the Southern District Associations, and a Cub Scout Den Mother for about 25 years. She departed this life June 21, 1975 at 2:00 a.m. in the Sweeny Community Hospital, Sweeny, Texas. She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Mrs. Sophie Lewis of Cedar Lane, Texas, Mrs. Anna L. Higgins of Brazoria, Texas, three sons, Roosevelt Woodard and Ira Woodard of Houston, Texas, Henry Woodard of Brazoria, Texas. One adopted son Henry Woodard Marshall of Houston, Texas. Mrs. Matthews was born April 7, 1930, in Sargent to Phillips and Nancy Lee Smith and died May 24, 1994, in Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.
She was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include four daughters and one son-in-law, LaSharel Jackson, Doris and Ezekias Leslie, Nancy Matthews, all of Bay City and Joy Matthews of Columbus; a play sister, Ruthie Grave Lavel of Houston; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; six sisters, Laura Moore and Lena Helms, both of Brazoria, Dorothy Martes and Faye Smith, both of Houston and Ester Ridley and Debra Carpenter, both of Fort Worth; five brothers, Phillip Smith Jr., of Brazoria, Ronnie Smith, Phillip E. Smith, Zinnie Smith and Anthony Smith, all of Houston; three aunts, Joy Lee of Matagorda, Francis Smith of Clute and Agnes Wright of Brazoria; a great-aunt, Mary Gee of Bay City and a great-great-aunt, Lizzie Fisher of Houston.
