Mr. John Smith was in Van Vleck Saturday.

Mr. F. A. Bertmer came in Monday to inspect his spuds.

G. E. Hill went to Bay City Monday.

Sol J. Cleveland of Bay City was here Sunday and Monday.

Mrs. Head of Bay City was at this place one day last week.

G. C. Gerrard and J. H. Chastun were in Bay City Saturday.

Mr. G. E. Hill went to Bay City Tuesday.

Mrs. M. D. Hanson was on the sick list Tuesday and Wednesday.

Traveling salesman for the Pittsburg Wire and Steel Company, was at Ashwood Wednesday.

Mr. F. C. Gerrard and family left this place to take part in the Cotton Carnival at Galveston.

The new road is gaining fast headway.

Ashwood hopes to have one of the best roads in the state, if nothing happens.

Mrs. Stafford went to Wharton one day last week.

Mr. George Walker and nephews, Jeff and Robert Walker, went to Bay City Sunday.

Mr. Rugeley of Bay City was at this place on business Monday.

Jas. Walker went to Bay City Monday where he is employed in the cotton harvest.

Mr. and Mrs. Stafford have moved in their new home across the creek.

Mrs. O. Newman of Beaumont is visiting her mother, Mrs. C. D. Smith.

Mrs. M. D. Hanson was the pleasant guest of Mrs. A. Walker Monday.

Miss Flora Walker and Miss Florence Fontenat were the pleasant guests of Miss Mary Chastun Sunday.

Mr. John Smith was the welcome guest of J. P. Chastun this week.

Mrs. J. F. Smith is very seriously ill.

J. H. Chastun went to Houston Wednesday on business.

Raymond Brown returned from Beeville, accompanied by a charming bride.

Miss Bess Smith returned from a visit to Beaumont Sunday.

Mr. V. B. Stafford went to Wharton on business Thursday.

Mr. George Brown and nephews, Jeff, James and Robert Walker, returned from Bay City Friday.

Mr. J. F. Smith and Ack Walker went to Figland on business this week.

Mr. Sol J. Cleveland of Bay City was at this place one day last week on business.

J. F. Chastun is recovering from a sick spell.

Everything is wet at this place.

Mr. Woods of Bay City was at this place on business one day last week.

Mr. Deason went to Wharton Wednesday.

Walter Brown went to Wharton Wednesday.

J. H. Chastun went to Van Vleck on business Wednesday.

Mr. Vaughn of Bay City was at this place Wednesday on business.

Miss Minnie Harper is another addition to this place.  Miss Harper is teaching the Ashwood Public School .

The young people of Ashwood was out riding Sunday and enjoyed a very pleasant evening, regardless of the muddy roads.

Messrs. S. M. Jerrald, Geo. and Robt. Walker were the pleasant guests of the Valley View farm Sunday.

Miss Sealy Wicks of Markham is visiting at this place this week.

James and Jeff Walker were the pleasant guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Jerrald Sunday.

The farmers here are having a very difficult time in harvesting their crops.

The Catholic Sunday School will change their service hour from 2:30 p. m. to 10 a. m. every Sunday at the Valley View farm.

Miss Bertha McWilliams went to Wharton Saturday to visit friends and relatives.

Messrs. James, Jeff, Robert and George Walker visited Mr. and Mrs. Jerrald Sunday.

Miss Flora Walker visited Miss Mary Chastun Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Chastun were the pleasant guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hanson Sunday.

Mr. D. H. Cain went to Van Vleck on business Monday.

Mr. Arnold of Dallas was at this place on business Monday.

James Chastun is erecting new horse barracks on the Valley View Farm.  He has good stock, and is a strong believer in taking care of them.

Pecans are beginning to fall very fast in the Caney Valley .  Reports have come in of a good crop.

J. H. Chastun is leading the truck growers here in crops.  He will market tomatoes and egg plant soon, also has a fine crop of yams.

Why can’t the farmers here have something to see the year round, when our climate will produce the year round.  Get busy boys, and let us lead.

The farmers are very busy engaged in harvesting their crops. Labor is very scarce here.

The Valley View Farm will soon cart vegetables to market.

Death claimed Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Cain, aged 28 years and 11 months Tuesday, November 25, at 8 a. m. Mrs. Cain was well known here and was loved by every one. She is survived by an aged mother, brother, husband and four children, the oldest a boy eleven years old, the youngest three years old. She has a host of grieved friends who extend their sincerest sympathy to the bereaved ones. One is gone who can never be excelled as a wife, mother and neighbor. While there is a scant settlement here, the home was crowded with grief-stricken friends, and all followed the remains to Bay City for burial which took place Wednesday evening.

We, the people of Ashwood, wish to extend our sympathy to the sorrowing kindred, as we all realize that one from the fold can never take the place of a mother.

Mr. J. K. Smith of Louisiana was at this place on business one day last week.

Mrs. C. L. Smith and daughter, Geraldine, went to Beaumont Saturday.

Messrs. S. M. Gerrard and A. Hanson went to Bay City Tuesday.

Dr. Parker was at Ashwood professionally Tuesday.

Dr. J. E. Simons of Bay City was a professional visitor to our city last Tuesday.

Mr. R. Deason went to Van Vleck Tuesday.

W. Brown of Sugar Valley was at this place Tuesday.

Mrs. L. Stafford and Mr. R. Brown were at this place at the bedside of Mrs. Cain Tuesday.

R. Jones and W. Triplett, Southern Pacific officials, stopped a few minutes here while en route Palacios Tuesday morning.

J. P. Chastun went to Bay City Wednesday.

Miss Flora Walker was the welcome guest of Miss M. B. Chastun Monday.

A crowd of El Campo men is in this section looking over lands.

The farmers are very busy this week harvesting spuds.

The Valley View farm is rushing vegetables to the market and we expect to soon have an express office.

Miss Minnie Harper, who teaches the public school here, left this place for a week’s visit to relatives Saturday.
