The Young People’s Class of the Baptist Church and Mrs. Malone, the teacher, sponsored a social Wednesday night for Jerry Anderson, who is home on a furlough. Jerry is in the Air Force and is stationed in South Carolina. Games were played and Christmas carols sung, after which refreshments were served. A big crowd of Cobra fans followed the Cobras to Gonzales Friday night, although it was really cold and a strong wind was blowing. The Cobras lost but the Giddings team knew they had played a football game that night. We are proud of our Cobras and say, “Good Work, Cobras.” Mrs. J. W. Munn left Sunday for Chickasha and Duncan, Okla., to spend Christmas with the Irvin Munns and Albert Munn. C. J. Worthy, who has been in a hospital, is expected to be home for Christmas. Joe Don will be a Soph. at Sam Houston State Teachers College at Huntsville this fall. Mrs. Tim Garcia surprised her husband Tom with a birthday party Sunday evening. Their son Ruben was six years old Sunday and his party was an afternoon Pinata Party. Mr. and Mrs. Garcia purchased the Pinata in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. A Pinata is a plaster form filled with various goodies. It is generally hung on a clothes line and the youngsters take turns being blindfolded and striking out at the Pinata in hopes of breaking it and spilling its contents. The youngsters then gather up the goodies. Miss Brenda Denn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Denn, has returned from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Hayes in Huntsville. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Sumpter celebrated Mrs. Sumpter’s birthday August 7 with an unplanned hike. This hike covered approximately 2 ½ miles due to a broken fan belt. Seems we had the fore thought to carry a spare fan belt but lacked a wrench to put it on with. This hike certainly convinced me I am one year older. Our President has advised that we are America first. The tour of Mr. and Mrs. Ralston covers many interesting areas of our country. Mr. and Mrs. Ralston left July 17 and returned August 3rd. They traveled six thousand miles. In Oklahoma City, Okla. they met a nephew, Val Jones, from Hartford, Conn.
