West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas
The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, February 13, 1910 pg. 2 JUDGE DAVE BRYANT DEAD Judge Dave E. Bryant of the U.S. Federal Court, Sherman, died in the Alexian Brothers Hospital in St. Louis Saturday afternoon. Members of his family were present when the end came. Judge Bryant had been ailing for several months. Judge Bryant was born in Hardin County, Kentucky. At the time of death he had reached his 61st year. The judge was brought to Texas by his father when only two years old, his mother having died. He grew to manhood in this county and studied law in the office of Throckmorton & Brown at McKinney. In 1890 President Benjamin Harrison appointed Judge Bryant Judge of the United States District and Circuit Courts for the Eastern District of Texas, which position he had since filled with distinction. The judge was a Republican of the most ardent but consistent type. People who differed with him politically always held him in the highest esteem. His father, after the Civil War, held an important position under the federal government. Before Judge Bryant was appointed to a federal position, he was engaged in the practice of law which yielded him a large income. As a husband and father he was a model man. In 1876 Judge Bryant was married to Miss Dinkie Thompson, daughter of Col. and Mrs. James Thompson, pioneer citizens of the Preston Bend community in Grayson County, and he is survived by his wife and four children. The children are Mrs. Daisy McLynn of Sherman, James Bryant of Pottsboro, and Randolph Bryant and David E. Bryant, Jr. of Sherman. The funeral of Judge Bryant took place at Sherman Tuesday and was generally attended by the attorneys of this city. During the funeral all business was suspended in Sherman.
