SHERMAN
Special to the Gazette, Sherman, Texas,
December 8 - The case of John
Hurst, the deaf mute sent to jail from Van
Alstyne on a charge of burglary, was brought
upon habeas corpus before Judge Maltbie today by
Attorney Chas. Roberts, and he was
discharged. The ground of release was that
the prisoner could not plead, nor could he make
a lawful defense because of his infirmity.
