Benjamin Reuben Burget is credited in his obituary (Ft. Worth Star-Telegraph, March 10, 1959, pg.14) with organizing Troop 1 Denison Boy Scouts. The time and place of the troop's first meeting were reported to be 8 p.m., Friday, July 6, 1923, in the basement of the First Christian Church.  H.B. Yates, director of the Rotary Club boys' camp was in charge of organizing the 3 troops.  Ben R. Burget, 36, was chosen as Scout Master.  Six years later he turned to professional Scout work as a field man for the old Grayson County Council and later became Executive of the Texas-Oklahoma Council.

The organization of Troop 1, is mentioned in the last paragraph.   It's first meeting was held at the First Christian Church on the same night that Troop 2 was being organized  by H.B. Yates at the Chamber of Commerce Troop 2, Denison, Boy Scouts of America. L.L. Loy of Madden's was made Scout Master.
