BOY SCOUTS Grayson County, Texas Benjamin Reuben Burget is credited
in his obituary (Ft. Worth
Star-Telegraph,
March 10, 1959, pg.14) with organizing
Troop 1 Denison Boy Scouts. The
time and place of the troop's first
meeting were reported to be 8 p.m.,
Friday, July 6, 1923, in the basement of
the First Christian
Church. H.B. Yates, director of the
Rotary Club boys' camp was in
charge of organizing the 3 troops. Ben R. Burget,
36, was chosen
as Scout Master. Six years later he
turned to professional Scout
work as a field man for the old Grayson
County Council and later became
Executive of the Texas-Oklahoma Council.
The
organization of Troop 1, is mentioned in
the last
paragraph. It's first
meeting was held at the First
Christian Church on the same night that
Troop 2 was being
organized by H.B. Yates at the
Chamber of Commerce Troop 2,
Denison, Boy Scouts of America. L.L. Loy of Madden's was made
Scout Master.
