A Public Auction of Slaves Following
the marriage of his widow to lawyer John Wooferd of Bonham, the estate
of Dr. Heiston was finally settled in 1859 among his heirs, Book B,
pages 261-283 for Cause #5-9 of the Civil Minutes of Grayson County
showed the distribution and disposition of the estate. The Court's
decree regarding personal property follows in part:
"It is further ordered that the Negro Boy, Bill, and also the Negro Woman, Emeline, and her two children, Robert and Susan, also about 40 head of cattle, 2 mules, 1 horse and 1 wagon be sold at public auction by Sallie Wooferd at the Court House in Bonham on a credit to the first day of January, 1860, - - - and that the proceeds of the sale be divided among the parties to the suit as follows: - - -."
