In
1880 Carrie Diamond, age 32 years, is living
in the city of Denison
along with her 12 year old daughter, Alice.
She was widowed and
had been born in Tennessee. Her
occupation is listed as "washer
& sewer".
According
to the 1900 Federal Census, Carrie Diamond
was still living in the city
of Denison and is widowed. Her age is
listed as 67 years, having
been born March 1833 in Tennessee; she
states that she had one child,
living. Her occupation is dressmaker.
The
1910 Federal Census again lists the widow
Carrie Diamond as living in
the city of Denison at 1208 Day Street.
However, her age is shown
to be 65 years and born in Tennessee; her
occupation is a "laundress"
in her home. Carrie's only child and
daughter, Alice Walton,
lived at 1204 Day Street; she is also a
widow at the age of 39.
Alice's race is listed as "mulatto";
living in the house with her
are five of her six living children - Robert
R, age 22; David, age 15;
Julia, age 12; Irma, age 9; and Willoughby,
age 5 - all having been
born in Texas. Alice's husband, Prof.
D.W. Walton, died in 1906
and both are buried at Oakwood Cemetery in
Denison. The Walton
Elementary School on Day Street at the
corner of Perry was named in honor and
memory of Prof. D.W. Walton.
According to Alice's
death certificate her parents
were Carrie Diamond, born Texas, and
John Diamond, also born in Texas.
