Denison Daily News Tuesday, January 13, 1880 pg. 4 DEATH OF COL. DIAMOND We regret exceedingly to learn of the death of Col. John R. Diamond, of Whitesboro, which took place on the 9th inst. The Col. had been sick about six weeks of inflamation of the bowels. Col. Diamond was about 57 years of age. He filled the responsible office of justice of the peace a number of years and at the time of his death was mayor of Whitesboro, and one of the most efficient presiding officers the town ever had. He was also a member of the Odd Fellow and Masonic lodges, and was a charter member of the Whitesboro lodge, A.F. & A.M., which was organized in 1860. He was also a member of the M.E. Church, South. In the death of Col. Diamond Whitesboro lost one of its most public spirited citizens. We knew him well and can bear testimony to his many noble qualities of head and heart. He was one of the old citizens of the county, having located at Whitesboro a quarter of a century ago.
