A Texas Historical Marker was
placed on this property, although its information sadly is incorrect.
An attempt is being made by a descendant to have it corrected. This
property is being restored by a Mr. Carroll Brown, a resident of
Whitesboro. John R. Diamond had two brothers who were signers of the
secession of Texas from the Union; they were James Jackson Diamond and
William Winfield Diamond. The Diamonds were a politically active family
and James J. was involved in the Gainesville hangings episode. Both men
died in the yellow fever epidemic in Houston in 1867, I think. Their younger brother George W.
Diamond wrote the account of the hangings which was so controversial.
