GRANDMA TATE DEAD
A Good Christian Woman and a Mother in Isreal

On Monday, December 13, 1897, the spirit of Mrs. Cynthia Tate, better known as Grandma Tate, of Desert, took its flight from this world to that home beyond, where all is bright, and peace and love reign supreme.
The remains were interred in the Crossroads cemetery the following day, and was followed to the grave by a large concourse of sorrowing friends, for she had many, and it was indeed a sad day to them.  The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.B. Nicholson of this city.
Mrs. Tate, nee Hamilton, was born in Tennessee on October 23, 1818, and on October 17, 1839 was married to Rev. John Tate, a Cumberland Presbyterian minister, with whom she lived a happy and devoted life until his death in 1869, since when she has never married again.  To this union there were born 8 children, 2 of whom died in early childhood, and 3 after the age of maturity.
Grandma Tate joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at the age of 26, and from that time until the hour of death lived a devoted Christian life, and that she was a good and true Christian, serving God with all her strength and means, all who know her can attest.
For nearly 30 years, with no strong arm to protect and assist her, she, making God her guide, she battled life and provided for herself and those dependent upon her, and during this time she paid for a good home, as well as gave liberally to the cause of God and Christianity, thus proving herself of extraordinary industry and economy.
She was ever the friend of the honest and upright, and discountenanced every thing that was not in true keeping with the spirit of God, and was ever ready to lend a helping hand to the needy.
For 58 years she lived a devoted and earnest Christian life, never faltering, and in the end dropped into a beautiful and sweet sleep, to awake in the other and better world, where a golden crown, studded with gems more precious than pearls, more brillant than diamonds, and more beautiful than rubies awaits her.
Her good deeds will long live after her, and the memory of Grandma Tate will not soon be forgotten by those who knew her.
