Thursday, October 6, 1949 pg. 4 Sherman - Funeral services for Mrs. Villa Akridge, 70, who died Saturday at 3:30 a.m. at her home, 2400 N. Travis, were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member. Rev. Walter Lazenby, Jr., pastor, conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Claude Johnston. Pallbearers were Byron Caraway, Paul Cook, Clifford Dinsmore, M.E. Talley, Charles Atnip and Lloyd Delaney. Burial was in Cross Roads Cemetery, south of Whitewright. Mrs. Akridge was born in Alabama, March 9, 1879, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Evans. She was married to G.A. Akridge at Blue Ridge, July 4, 1900. She attended schools at Whitewright and came to Sherman in 1925. She retired as an employee of the Pool Manufacturing Company in 1945 after 22 years of service. Survivors include her husband; one son, J.D. Akridge of Sherman; one daughter, Mrs. Bernice Caraway of Blue Ridge; 2 sisters, Mrs. Dora Withrow of Memphis, Tennessee and Mrs. Frankie Gilley of Ector; 3 brothers, Dr. P.F. Evans of Ft. Worth; Robert Evans of Shafter, California; and Henry Evans of Westminster; 3 granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
