Steve Yeury Accidentally Shot At Howe Late Wednesday

Yeury, Bird Hunting, Shoots Self While Taking Gun From Car

Steve Yeury, 50, of Howe, was accidentally shot late Wednesday afternoon while removing a hammerless shotgun from the seat of his car.

Large droves of birds had been eating in Mr. Yeury's ... near his barn, near Howe, and Mrs. Yeury spent several hours each week shooting and driving the birds away. While removing the gun from the seat of the car, the trigger caught on two u p-turned seat springs in the cushion causing the gun to fire. Death was instantly as the shot entered his chest just above the heart.
The body was taken to Cecil Johnston's Funeral Home at Howe. Burial arrangements are pending due to the arrival of a daughter at Olympia, Washington.

Services will probably be held Friday of Saturday at the Presbyterian Church of Howe with burial in the Hall cemetery of Cannon Cemetery.

Mr. Yeury was born November 2, 1888 at Jameson, five miles northeast of here on the farm where his brother-in-law, Giley Strickland, now resides. He married Miss Annie McDunn of Howe 25 years ago. He was a member of the official board of the Presbyterian church having joined that church ten years ago.

Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Herb Yeury of Howe and Collier Yeury, Grayson county tax assessor-collector of Sherman; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Taylor of Howe and Mrs. Giley Strickland of Van Alstyne; and one daughter, Mrs. Lori _ender of Olympia, Washington.

S. B. YEURY DIES

S.B. Yeury, who lived a mile north of Cannon, died Wednesday night at 12:03 o'clock.

The funeral will be held at Cannon Cemetery Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock under the direction of the Masonic lodge.

Mr. Yeury was a brother-in-law of W.R. Huckaby.

VAN ALSTYNE - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Yeury, 82, died at 10:50 a.m. Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.R.Brown at Austin. Funeral services were held at the Fox-Fanning chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Mottley of the Christian church and the Rev. Frank Johnston of the Baptist church. Interment was in the Cannon cemetery. Pallbearers were Yeury George of Howe, Collier Yeury of Sherman and M.D.Sweeney, P.C.Crawford and W.A.Adams of Van Alstyne.

Mrs. Yeury was born Sept. 11, 1861 at Bereh, Ky., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Burnam. Her husband, S. B. Yeury, passed away 15 years ago. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. W. R. Brown of Austin and Mrs. Zilpha Hopkins of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Morrison of Cisco and Mrs. Martha Morrison of Roswell, N.M.; four brothers, Tom Burnam of Iowa Park and Curt, Willie, and Jesse Burnam of Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
