Dr. T. M. West
1831 - 1917

Eliza Cannon West
27 January 1842 - 21 March 1928

DIES AT 86
Van Alstyne, March 22 - Relatives in Van Alstyne have been advised of the death Wednesday at Denver, Colo., of Mrs. Eliza West, 86 years old, and for 68 years a resident of this section of Grayson county.
Funeral services will be conducted at the First Christian church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Leo Johnston, pastor of the Central Christian church, Greenville, and the Rev. E. D. Henson, pastor of the church at Van Alstyne, officiating.  Burial will be at the Cannon cemetery.
Mrs. West was a native of South Carolina, born in the Pickens district of that state on Jan. 27, 1842.  At the age of ten, in 1852, she moved to Texas with their father, the late Elijah Cannon.  Her mother died before the removal to Texas.  The family  located east of Van Alstyne in the section now known as Cannon, the family name being given to the place because of the early settlement and long residence of its members there.
Early in life, Mrs. West became a member of the Christian church and was one of the oldest among those connected with the church at Van Alstyne.  During the seventies, she was married to Dr. T. M. West, and continued to reside at Cannon where Dr. West practiced the dental profession, until their removal to Van Alstyne in 1895.
In 1917 Dr. West passed away, and Mrs. West remained a resident of Van Alstyne until 1930 when she moved to Denver, Colo., making her home with her daughter, Mrs. A. P. Welker, until her death.
The remains are expected to reach Van Alstyne Saturday morning.
Pallbearers will be nephews by marriage of Mrs. West and are as follows:  J. W. Blassingame, Sherman; T. H. Massie, J. H. Sheid, John Umphress, L. A. Cartwright, Van Alstyne; Walter Barron, Dallas.
Mrs. West is survived by two brothers, John R. Cannon, 98 years old, and Oscar M. Cannon, 80 years old, both living at Van Alstyne, and other relatives.
