Starnes 30 April 1894 - 25 September 1968 Ida Hooker Starnes 31 August 1897 - 14 May 1974 Sherman Democrat Thursday, September 26, 1968 VAN ALSTYNE - Funeral services for William Jefferson Starnes, 74, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church. His home was on route 4, Sherman. He died Wednesday night in a Sherman hospital. Burial will be in Cannon Cemetery, directed by Flesher Funeral Home. Rev. Cameron Gray and Rev. Jim Gregory will officiate. Mr. Starnes was born in Tennessee, April 30, 1894. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Ida Baptist Church. He married Miss Ida Hooker, Aug. 5, 1917, at Cannon. He is survived by his wife of route 4, Sherman; one son, Marshall Starnes of Sherman; one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Gregory of Sherman; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Day and Mrs. Benny Edwards of Van Alstyne; one brother, Ernest Starnes of Caddo, Okla.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Wednesday, May 15, 1974 VAN ALSTYNE - Services for Mrs. Ida Pearl Starnes, 76, of Route 4, Sherman, who died Tuesday at a Sherman hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Cannon Cemetery under the direction of Flesher Funeral Home. A native of Tennessee, Mrs. Starnes moved to Texas in 1912. She was a Baptist. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Gregory of Sherman; son, Marshall Starnes of Sherman; sisters, Mrs.E.W.Warren, Mrs. Bill Stephens, Mrs. Doris Squibb, all of Sherman, and Mrs. Wade Ballard of Trenton and Mrs. Clara Hembree of Alvaredo, Ga.; brothers, Albert Hooker of Glen Rose, Howard Hooker of Sherman, Alton Hooker of Denison and Clarence Moore of Sherman; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
