Van Alstyne Leader 23 April 1925 Sam Ireland was born in Hart County, Kentucky, on February 8, 1849 living in that State until 1886 when he moved to Texas, which has since been his home. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Ireland, both of whom preceded him in death. Early in life, Mr. Ireland became a member of the Baptist church, remaining an adherent of that faith until his death, at the age of 76 years, 2 months, 11 days on April 19, 1925, at his home east of Van Alstyne. Mr. Ireland is survived by a brother, Bob Ireland of Checotah, Oklahoma, and a sister, Mrs. Frances Butler of Upton, Kentucky. He was never married. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Leo Johnston. The services were held in the Cannon tabernacle and interment was had at the Cannon cemetery. A large gathering of friends attended the funeral, and many expressions of regret at the passing of this splendid man and good citizen were heard. The tribute of the officiating minister was a most eloquent one and made a deep impression upon those who heard it. In the death of Mr. Ireland, yet another of the older citizens of this community has passed from earth, and the last chapter of a long and useful life has been written. To the family and relatives the most sincere sympathy of a host of friends is tendered. Cannon Cemetery Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any links inoperable, please send me a message. |
