Sunday, January 6, 1889 pg. 2 Nov 1 - The Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway went into the hands of Receivers Cross and Eddy. Nov 2 - A thief entered the residence of Capt. W.O. Kretsinger and stole his watch and $33.00 in money....L. Dickerson bought out the grocery stock of A.R. Williams....Mr. and Mrs. C. Detamore celebrated their golden wedding....Francis, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. T.B. Murphy, died. Nov 5 - The Denison Rifles made their first appearance with their new guns. Nov 8 - Miss Minnie Thomas committed suicide by shooting herself through the head with a pistol. Nov 11 - Mrs. Martha Bunts died at the age of sixty years. Nov 12 - Miss Lizzie Gilmor, aged thirteen years, died of typhoid fever. Nov 13 - Bessie, the three-year-old daughter of Mrs. Krice, died from the effects of drinking some embalming fluid. Nov 14 - The Southern Methodist Episcopal Church Conference convened at the First M.E. Church, Bishop J.S. Key, of Georgia, presiding....The Keene Club played "Above the Clouds" to a large audience, the proceeds to be used for the public reading room. Nov 18 - Bishop J.S. Key, of Georgia, preached in the opera house. Nov 19 - The Southern M.E. Church Conference completed its work....W.A. LaBeaume was sworn in a Justice of the Peace, Precinct No. 2. Nov 20 - W.A. Tibbs was re-elected to the position of Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners....Dr. Brownfield leased the Lamar House for a term of five years, and will turn it into a sanitarium....The City Council accepted the new Third Ward school building. Nov 22 - Mr. J.M. Bennett and Miss Carrie Rogers were married by Rev. L.J. Adams. Nov 24 - The grocery stock of Emmott Brothers was sold at public auction by Constable Mixon, and was purchased by J.D. Yocom. Nov 26 - Master Mechanic Frank Reardon, of the M. K. & T. Ry., was tendered a grand ball at Ransford's hall by the employees that were under his management at the machine shops. They presented him with one hundred dollars in cash, to be used in purchasing a horse and buggy when he arrives in Little Rock, Arkansas, his future home. Nov 27 - Receiver Eddy and Superintendent Frey arrived in the city in the special from Sedalia, Mo.....The new residence of Engineer Hotchkiss, on Munson street, was completed....At a meeting of the city council, a committee composed of Mayor Tone and Councilman Field, Yocom, and Crooks and City Attorney D.O. Hause, on behalf of the council, and Messrs. W.B. Munson, A.G. Mosely, and A.R. Collins, on behalf of the citizens, was appointed to take steps looking to the securing of a new charter for the city. Nov 28 - Fred Geisenhomer was assaulted by foot-pads on Mirick avenue, and an unsuccessful attempt was made to rob him....Engineer A.J. Shaw and Mrs. Libbie Tarleton were married at the residence of the bride, by Rev. F.N. Atkin....Mrs. W.D. Gerard, wife of Prof. Gerard, of this city, died at the home of her parents in Monroe county, Missouri. Nov 29 - Thanksgiving Day....Postmaster Maughs dined the post office force at his residence on East Sheppard street. Nov 30 - A horse attached to a sulky, belonging to W.B.
