Dec 3 - The first car load of Ph. Best Milwaukee beer arrived in the city, consigned to B.N. Carter, their agent.

Dec 4 - A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. H. Steuber....Mr. Thomas Hume, of the Gazetteer office, celebrated his forty-sixth birthday.

Dec 9 - The Sunday Gazetteer came out in a special holiday edition of ten pages, containing sketches of the city officials, chronological local events from 1872 to 1878, and other interesting reading matter. The proceeds of this edition were tendered by the proprietor, Mr. B.C. Murray, to Manager M.F. Dearing and Local Editor J.K. Hurd, as a recognition of their valuable services in promoting the interests of the Gazetteer.

Dec 10 - Mrs. Wilkins, wife of Dr. C.A. Wilkins, died at her residence on Woodard street....Messrs. N.D. McCann and R.R. Jackson, of Sherman, purchased the Narrow Gauge Restaurant from Mrs. Schoneman.

Dec 11 - B.N. Carter's new beer delivery wagons arrived in the city.

Dec 15 - Frank Larkin gathered a box of strawberries from his vines in southeast Denison.

Dec 16 - W.M. Chapman, an old citizen of Denison, and editor of The Evening Journal, died at his residence on West Sears street, at the age of fifty-one years....Burglars entered the residence of Mr. Bob Kinder on Morgan street, near the compress, and stole $125 in cash, a gold watch and chain, a new suit of clothes and an M. K. & T. Ry. pay check for $63.50....May, the little three and a half-year-old daughter of Conductor Wm. Gallagher, died at the family residence in this city of diptheria.

Dec 18 - W.A. East was sworn in as Deputy Sheriff of Grayson county under Sheriff R.L. May.

Dec 20 - Mr. William Hardwick, one of the oldest citizens of Denison, and also Councilman from the Fourth Ward, died at his residence of pluero-pneumonia.

Dec 23 - A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred O'Maley....Mr. Obediah Williams and Miss Lottie DeHaven were married by Judge Cook.

Dec 24 - The Gate City Guide issued a special edition of six pages....The Denison Rifles gave a ball at Ransford's Hall for the benefit of the Denison Rifles' Band.

Dec 25 - Christmas....The post office force dined with Mr. Lorenzo Howe of the Denison post office. During the dinner hour Mr. Howe was presented with a handsome pair of gold cuff buttons by the employes of the post office.

Dec 26 - Mayor Maughs was presented with a gold-headed cane by the employes of the post office.

Dec 27 - The First Ward school building was accepted by the council.

Dec 28 - The city council met and raised their salaries from two hundred dollars to three hundred dollars per year.

Dec 31 - Dr. Brownfield gave a free ball at the Garney & Haynes building, in honor of the opening of his Medical Institute on Sears street, January 1st, 1889....A meeting of the stockholders of the Denison & Washita Valley Ry. was held in the company's office, and it was unanimously agreed to bond the road for $20,000 per mile, so as to be able to complete the road and furnish it with rolling stock.
