Sunday, January 6, 1889 pg. 2 May 1 - Dr. Achenback moved into his new residence on Munson street. May 2 - The business of N.W. Welsh, undertaker, passed into the hands of Lindsay & Hall, of Sherman, who will continue the business. May 4 - The electric light was in operation for the first time since the works were burned. May 8 - The W.C.T.U. reading room was moved from the Muller block to a room over Brooks & Harris' grocery store....Roy Badgett, aged four years, died. May 10 - One of the twin babies of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cutler died....Peter Jepperson, aged thirty-four years, was found dead in his room over Giersa's grocery store. May 11 - An enthusiastic meeting was held at the City Hall for the purpose of securing the Choctaw Coal & Railway road. May 14 - The Denison Rifles were out drilling for the first time in their new uniforms. May 15 - The bankrupt grocery stock of Parham & Carey was sold at Sheriff sale to Waples, Platter & Co. May 16 - Tom Dollarhide won the individual championship medal at the State shoot at Austin for the third time. May 17 - Two hundred and fifty crates of strawberries were shipped north....The Big X Saloon was broken into and robbed of $47.50. May 20 - Mrs. Richard Thornhill died of consumption. May 25 - Fifteen graduates of the Public Schools received their diplomas at the opera house. May 28 - A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Clark. May 30 - Mr. George L. Stewart and Miss Ella Mays were married....The foundation for the Sullivan block, on the corner of Main street and Fannin avenue, was commenced.
