Sunday, January 6, 1889 pg. 2 April 3 - H. Tone was elected mayor. April 4 - The Electric Light plant, valued at $15,000, was burned. April 5 - The new drug store of Fisher & Co., on Rusk avenue, opened up for business. April 11 - Mrs. Mary Finn, aged fifty-two years, died....The McDougall Hotel Steam Laundry opened up for business. April 12 - The charter of the North Texas Savings & Building Association was received. April 13 - Two new summer cars for the street car line arrived. April 14 - Conductor John Henicke died in the Fort Worth hospital. April 15 - The "Texas Major" made its first appearance. April 21 - Hogan, the Negro murderer of U.S. Marshal Carlton, was sentenced to the penitentiary for life. April 23 - The Parham & Carey stock of goods was attached by Waples, Platter & Co. April 27 - W.E. Powell was shot and killed by A.H. Post at Bush's stone quarry. April 29 - A nine pound baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Collins.
