Skaggs Farm 1859 The Skaggs Farm is located 2 miles west of Whitewright.
The founder was James William Skaggs of Green County, Kentucky. Mr. Skaggs acquired 200 acres on which he raised cattle and corn. With his wife Catherine Young, they raised ten children on the farm - Sarah, William Frank, John H., Thomas J., Ezekiel Y., Mary E, Moses D., Rebecca J., Susan, and Elizabeth. In 1870 Ezekiel took over the 200 acres, having bought out the other heirs. Ezekiel was a member of Kentuckytown Baptist Church and served as Justice of the Peace. In 1893 the family land passed to Mosses Davis Skaggs, who never married. In 1927 his nephew, Wallace Skaggs, took over 84 acres of the original 200 acres. Wallace lived in Denton County but farmed the land to produce cotton, corn, wheat; the farm was worked by Wallace's uncle, N.E. Skaggs and cousin, Charlres Skaggs. Wallace had two brothers and a sister - Curtis, Grover, Josephine who never married. The siblings shared a home and at Wallace's death in 1938 each received their portion of the land from him. At each of the siblings' deaths, the remaining siglings took ownership of the family land, with Josephine being the last to die. In 1977 Charles and his father, N.E. Skaggs inherited the family farm.
