HARRIS - James Monroe
Harris (B. 8-7-1869) and his father, George Harris (born Circa 1832/1833):
I am researching my GG Grandfather James Monroe Harris, who lived in Sumter,
SC from approximately 1898 til his death in 1937. He married first in York,
S.C. to a lady named Elizabeth or Lizzie and had Claude Joseph, Elizabeth,
(the younger), and Corrie Lee Harris, and when they divorced (between 1892
and 1897), he moved to Sumter and married Daisy H. Montgomery and they
had James, Lula, Jessie, Samuel, Julian, Harry and twins, Marion and Margaret.
James M. Harris
was born August 7, 1869 in Rutherfordton, Rutherford County, North Carolina,
to George and Charity Jinkins Vessey Harris. His father, George Harris
was born somewhere in South Carolina circa 1832/1833, and James' mother
Charity Jinkins Vessey Harris, was born Circa 1836 somewhere in North Carolina.
James M. had siblings named: Rosaline, John, Catherine, Mary J., Luiza,
Weldon, Ennmo, and Ida. I believe that James M. Harris' father was born
some where around Sumter, and that is why James M. returned to that area
when he divorced from Lizzie. If anyone in the Sumter area recognizes
any of these names, please contact me at joldridge@msn.com . March

McINTOSH - I am
looking for information on a T. J. McIntosh who was born in Sumter Co.,
SC, Lynchburg Township, in May 1880 (although he listed his birth as May
1879). Raised a farmer, in 1907 he became the first Pentecostal missionary
in China. In 1909 he published a short book titled Around the World
(Falcon, NC) that is now lost. I have recently written an article
on his life through his dimissal from the Pentecostal Holiness Church in
1913. After that he nearly disappears from the historical record.
I recently found him in the 1930 census pastoring
an independent "holiness mission" in Charleston, SC. I also know
that he was living in Westville, SC (Kershaw Co.) in 1949. I am trying
to locate a copy of his 1909 book and find out when he died (plus any new
information about his life and ministry).
His wife was Annie E. (born c.1882).
He had a daugther named Hazel (married name Boone; born c. 1906) and a
sone Thomas J. (born 8-15-1911 in Palestine; died 6-5-90).
If you have any leads on Rev. McIntosh or
his book, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. September

AYERS - My search
continues for the name of the first wife of my gg-grandfather John Ayers,
b 7 Oct 1791 in SC to John Aires and Mary Manning. His first wife
was born in SC in 1793 and died in GA in 1836 after having 3 daughters.
Actually, I have searched all the available internet listings of marriages
in SC and have found no John Ayers who married probably in 1817-1819.
Their first child was born in 1820, but they could have been married earlier
than 1817, as they were both born in the early 1790s. I don't know
where else to look for their marriage. None of the relatives here
ever heard the name of this first wife, but we do know that their daughters
were: Abigail Sophrona, Penelope Sarah and Tellitha Ann Frances Ayers.
Since family names are repeated in every generation, it is reasonable to
assume the mother of these girls was probably named one or two of the same
names as the daughters. There are many other females in later generations
named these names. My own name is Abbye, a derivative of Abigail,
and she wasn't even my gg-grandmother! March 1, 2003

McSantori, McSontora or something like that. It even could be McIntosh.
The Susannah referred to was born in December 1810, so would have been
about 12 years and 4 months old on the date of entrance. Could anyone

I am trying to find more info on the father of my gg-gf ABIJAH ELIJAH WIGGINS
b Feb 5, 1803 in Sumter Co SC. Abijah d Sep 25, 1887 in Henry Co Al and
mar ELIZABETH ANN ADAMS 1824 in Washington Co Ga.
My ggg-gf was DANIEL H. WIGGINS and Daniel's
mother was MARY WOODHAM WIGGINS. No one seems to know who her husband was
and that's the problem I am looking at. Mary's father was EDWARD WOODHAM

section w3500001.txt on the Sumter Co site. No mention of Mary's
[dau] husband but did mention son Daniel.
Any help will be greatly appreciated as I

POWERS - I am trying to do research on my
Great, Great Grandfather John Powers who lived in Sumter, (Old Clarendon),
until the mid 1850's. I have located him in the indexed 1850 US Census
and have a copy of the original document. I also think I have found
him in the 1820 census. Unfortunatly, these records do not list an
address or or other means to locate his house/farm/shop. It is my
understanding that the census taker just got on his hourse and stopped
at each home as he got to them. This makes sense as I have found
census records of reletives who apparantly lived "next door" or "just down
the road". Does anyone know if there is any means to cross reference
the names in a census to specific land lots etc? If we could corrolate
just one or two specific families to their addresses we might be able to
locate other names found in their proximity as shown in the census.
