GEDDES/BRUNSON - I am looking for information on Carolina Geddes George and Benjamin Geddes. Solomon Geddes served in the War Between the States and drew a pension. His wife's name was Anna. The family was part of the Frierson plantation. I have the last slave list made in Dec 1864. I need an earlier estate paper maybe from the 1850s or 1860. I am trying to find info on Peter Brunson born in 1799 and died around 1904 or 1906. He lived with his daughter Caroline Brunson Black , which was my other grandfather's family of Mingo black. They lived in Providence Township. My mother was a geddis before marriage. My fathers parent's grandparents lived in Charleston. (Bought by Weinbergs.) If you look on the tax estate paper you will find that Matt and Clara Geddis owned a plantation after the war. It was sold or given to them by the union soldiers I think the plantation was then given to his oldest son Edward. They lost the farm due to back taxes. They lived in Wedgefield. I don't know who they were bought from in Charleston. My gg-grandmother Clara was part of a plantation on James Island in Charleston before she was sold to someone in Sumter. Some of the family worshiped at Orangehill and on my mother's side they worshiped at the old and new St Luke. The family names Gettis, Geddis Gaddis, Gathers are all related to me from Sumter and some from Charleston. The old graveyeard at the end of the flightline at Shaw AFB is the old family graveyard and also part of the old Frierson plantation which was called Cherryvale. The Church of the Good Shepard on Dingle Street in Sumter was part of the old plantation before it was moved. It was built for the slaves and is still used today by some of the decendants of the old Cherryvale Plantation. April 26, 2001

AYERS - My ancestors are known to have been in Sumter County, South Carolina in the mid-1700s, but I have been unable to verify any facts about them. Three brothers:  John Ayres, Ishmael Ayres and Thomas Ayres born in 1791, 1795 and 1809, respectively.  Capt. John Ayres, my direct ancestor, is reputed to have fought with Gen. Andrew Jackson in the Indian Wars, and he must have been recruited while in Carolina because he did not move to Florida until after 1837.  Several of his sons
including my gg-grandfather Asa fought in the Civil War, and Asa lost his left leg at Gettysburg.  We have been able to substantiate all of their CSA service, but have been unable to verify Capt. Jack's Indian Wars service.  If anyone can lead me to information as to their parentage or to any sources of records in South Carolina I will be eternally grateful.  If you know of sites where I could find wills, marriage records, birth records, etc. I would appreciate it very much. FULLWOOD - I am trying to identify the children of Robert H. Fullwood, born 1801, died about 1870. He is in the will of James C. Fullwood 1775-1841 of Sumter Co. SC.  He may be the Robert Fullwood in the 1820 Sumter census, and is in the York SC census beginning in 1840.I suspect that one of Robert's daughters was Caroline Matilda Fullwood, but I don't have a solid source. Caroline was born 1822 SC and died 1892 Coryell Co. TX. She married Green M. Suggs of York Co. SC in 1842. I have been told that Caroline's sister, Jane Hester Fullwood, married Isaac Thomas Suggs, a brother of Green Suggs.Looking for sources or any information on this line. August 11, 2001

McLEOD - Angus McLeod and Unnamed Spouse are in the 1820 Sumter County Census. One male 16-25, one male 45 Plus, 1 Female 10-15, 4 Females 16-26, 1 female 45 plus.  Property on Beaverdam Branch. Children's names: Margaret, Catherine, Polly wife of John McCoy, Betsy wife of Norman McLeod , Nancy wife of Roderick Bethune, Daniel McLeod and quite possibly more.

My gggg grandparents were Angus and Nancy McCutcheon McLeod who came to the United States sometime in the late 1780's with their son Alexander, possibly some daughters.  Per Alexander's will, dated 1824, two other boys were born to them, Norman, (family records indicate born on ship to Virginia) and Daniel born 1790 in NC.  Alexander and his brothers migrated to South Carolina, Sumter/Kershaw area around 1810 and we are looking for information that might possibly connect them to the Angus of Sumter being their father.

According to the Von Hacke records, Daniel, husband of Jane Christmas, is the Daniel who was the son of this Sumter Angus, but  another record indicates that Daniel h/o Jane had a Daniel McLeod as his father.   Also, nothing in the Von Hacke record shows PROOF of that connection. My recent research indicates that Daniel McLeod husband of Catherine of Sumter (1850 Sumter Census) could possibly be our Daniel and that he is in fact the son of the Sumter 1820 Angus.
