Stephen and Abigail Mitchell deed 3 parcels of land in Sumter "for the
use of" Susannah TISDALE (whose maiden name was CARR or KERR). Does anybody

PALMER -My grandfather, Hugh
Palmer, starting working for a railway express company in Sumter, SC, around
1919-20. Many years later he retired from the Railway Express Agency (REA),
but it wasn't organized until 1929. I would like to know the name of the
express company in Sumter around 1919-20. (An express company was like

HODGE/RODGERS - Looking for
information on William Joseph Rodgers b. 19 March 1894 to Joseph W Rodgers
and Josephine Hodge. William m. Thelma Myrtle Price 31 Jan 1927 in San

William and Thelma's marriage license says Joseph and Josephine were born
in SC. But William's death certificate says Joseph was born in Texas. Sept

RODGERS/HODGE/POPLIN - Joseph
William Rodgers m. Josephine Hodge in Sumter some time in the late 1880s
or early 1890s. They had two children William Joseph 19 Mar1894 and Bessie
(no info). Joseph died of a snake bite(?) and Josephine went on to marry
a man by the last name of Poplin. They had other childre, but I don't know
how many. I have a post card William sent to Josephine in 1918 that has
her as Mrs H W Poplin. 18 Sept 1999

cousins and other sources that my GGGGGGrandfather, Esquire or Squire B.
Thames, was born in Clarendon, South Carolina in 1786, died abt. 1855 in
Simpson County, Mississippi s/o Samuel Thames, born abt. 1745 in Bladen,
North Carolina, died after 1810 in Clarendon, South Carolina s/o Thomas
Thames, born between 1704 and 05 in England or Virginia, died 1758 in Bladen,
North Carolina s/o Amos Tims/Thames, Born March 25, 1684 in Northamptonshire,
England, died August 3 or 6, 1766 in Bladen, North Carolina. Esquire's
first son, my GGGGGrandfather, Timothy M.( I am told the M may stand for
Manning) was born in 1816 in South Carolina, died after 1880 in Simpson
County, Mississippi. Esquire was to have married Nisa Rogers born in 1787
in South Carolina and d/o Shadrack Rogers and Hopey ( Beatha?) Rogers.According
to notes that credit Lula H Kearl Hist by Marshall ( I assume Vera Marshall?)
Esquire was in the 1810 census, Sumter District SC. Somewhere I have notes
or I saw were he was a witness to another man's Revolutionary War pension
application, however I am not sure where I saw that. I hope that I can
discover more by getting in touch with others who are researching the Thames

SCARBROUGH - I am researching
the SCARBROUGH family, looking for ADDISON SCARBROUGH 1754-1830. I would
like to know also of any military or patriotic duty during the Revulation.
ADDISON SCARBROUGH had a son JESSE that was born @1790-94 in Camden District,
SC and died in Musc. Co, GA @1839. JESSE SCARBROUGH had a son IVEY SCARBROUGH
@1814-. I would like proof that IVEY SCARBROUGH was the son of JESSE. JESSE's

Pack (white) married and had six children by James Pringle (Black). She
died young, her sister's name was Winnie and her parents names were Manley
and Rosetta Pack. They attended (I believe) the Enon Baptist church and
lived in a section of Sumter called Visaud, Besuad (not sure of spelling).

LEWIS -I am looking for Benjamin
LEWIS who moved to Houston Co. GA before 1830, died 1853. He was born in
SC. His wife Martha was from NC b. abt. 1793. They had the following children
born in SC: Nathan G. b. abt 1812, William H. b. abt. 1814, Benjamin b.
abt. 1822, Mary b. abt. 1823, Sarah b. abt. 1828, and James b. abt.1830.I
found two Benjamin LEWIS's listed in the 1829 Census Index. The family
in Darlington Co. doesn't have children young enough. Does anyone have

Donald has 4 children Christine Celeste, Donald Gene II, Michael Shawn,
and Nicole Elise. My Ancestors(Grand Father) James Rembert Wingate Born
May 1, 1870. Marriage / / married Mary Elizabeth Compton. Birth 10/18/1900
At 30 years of age James became the father of Robert J Wingate Sumter,
SC, 18 Oct 1900. At 32 years of age James became the father of Charles
Lee Wingate July 31,1902. At 39 years of age James became the father of
Walter H Wingate Sumter, SC, Oct 23, 1909. At 45 years of age James became
the father of Willie Williams Wingate Sumter, SC, 1915. Birth James became
the father of Benjimin Wingate, Sumter SC. Birth James became the father
of Pearl Wingate Sumter, SC. Death 05/04/1932 James died May 4, 1932 Sumter,
SC, at 61 years of age. Burial site: Sumter Cemetery, Sumter, SC. October

SMITH - My ancestor, JOHN
SMITH and his brother JOSEPH SMITH applied for a Ga. Passport Jan. 6, 1810
to travel through the Creek Nation enroute to the Miss. Territory. The
passport stated they were from Sumter Dist. S.C. and this is all I have
to try to determine their family there. John was only 15-20 at the time
and Joseph was in his 20's. Both were in Amite Co., Ms. and later in Copiah
Co., Ms. Other family names were Jesse, Elias, David, Barney, Susannah,
Mary, Tabitha and Estherann. Any possibilities as to their parents or other

JENNINGS -Searching for the
parents of Richard Jennings in Sumter, S.C. He was born Nov. 29, 1845 probably
in Providence Township, Sumter Co. There were several "Jennings" in Providence
(maybe relatives ?) with the names James M., John J., William H., William
J. and Lauringdon R. Some moved to Sumter city in the late 1800's. Richard
was a Confederate veteran and married Mary Milicia Byrd (of Croatan Indian
descent) in 1867. They resided in Sumter city on Council and Bradford streets
until his death in 1907. Richard was a stone cutter by trade and was survived
by a son Wesley O. Jennings and a daughter Juanita Jennings Hudson (my
great grandmother).

BYRD - Searching for the
parents of Mary Milicia Byrd born 1847 in Sumter Co.,S.C. Our family suggests
that she was part Croatan Indian. There was an Ezekiel Byrd that lived
in Bradford Springs Twp., Sumter Co. in 1850 and 1860. Some have indicated
that he was of Indian descent. Delithia was the name of Ezekiel's wife.
Could Ezekiel and Delithia Byrd be the parents of Mary Milicia ? Mary M.
married Richard Jennings of Providence Twp. Sumter Co. in 1867. A Confederate
veteran and stone cutter, Richard with Mary M. resided in Sumter city on
Council and Bradford St. Following Richard's death around 1907, Mary M.
and her daughter Juanita Jennings Hudson (my ggrandmother) moved to Orangeburg,
S.C. Mary died around 1915 and was survived by Juanita and a son Wesley

BYRD - I
am searching for information and documentation that Donnan Byrd is the
son of George Byrd, Jr. and Sarah Frierson. He was born in Sumter District
abt. 1804 and died in 1879, possibly in Mississippi as the rest of his

COBB - I'm
searching for info regarding Joseph Cobb who was born about 1740. I don't
know where he was born, however, it is believed that he was born in St.Mark's
Parish, Craven CO., SC (Sumter area?) or Isle of Wight, VA. He lived in
St. Mark's Parish, Craven CO., SC before moving to the Augusta, GA area
and owning property. I'm connected to their son Ezekiel and their other
children are believed to be James, Absolom, Benjamin, Daniel, Isaiah, Mary,
and Stephen. His father, James, is believed to have been a member of the
SC militia in 1759. Joseph's father was James and his mother is unknown.
James may have been from Isle of Wight, VA or Calvert Co., MD. Joseph and
his son Ezekiel fought together in the REV. War in CPT John Hill's Company
at FT Martin, GA commanded by Col. Elijah Clarke. Joseph died in 1786 and
is buried in Wilkes Co., GA. Rachel married William McKullars after the
death of Joseph.Any help is greatly appreciated. October 26, 1999

husband Joseph William RODGERS. Josephine was the dau of William Holmes
HODGE (b. 13 Oct 1349 SC) and Kate H. McELVEEN. Joseph and Josephine had
2 children: William Joseph Rodgers (b. 19 Mar 1894 Sumter, SC - d. 16 Nov
1970 San Jose, CA) and Bessie (b. ca 1891). Rumor has it Joseph died of
a snake bite ca 1894 since Josephine m. Henry Washington POPLIN in 1896

CAMPBELL/BOWEN - Looking
for information on Christopher C. Campbell b. abt. 1808 in Sumter Co.,
SC. Married Mary Louisia Bowen, dau of John BOWEN. Christopher and Mary
Campbell had a son, Columbus Washington Campbell in Sumter Co. in 1838.
Christopher Campbell was said to have two half brothers named George Washington
Campbell and Eugene Campbell. The Campbell and Bowen families migrated
from Sumter Co. to the old Natchez Dist. of Louisiana and then settled

LANSDALE -I only know that
Isaac Lansdale born in 1760 was born in New Castle, Del. His son that I
am trying to link with him was born in South Caroline, Isaac Lansdale 1801.
I found a William Lansdale which was the name of one of the brothers of
Isaac Lansdale b. 180l living in the Sumpter District. He was on the 1830
census Index in Sumter County District Sump. 094. Sumter D Page #59 Micro
1M. There might be proof of Isaac birth in Sumter County Census of 1810.

PHELPS / LEE - I am looking
for the family and ancestors of WILLIAM PHELPS b. c. 1773 SC. Father may
be James Phelps b. NC. Also looking for the family of SOPHIA LEE b. c.
1776-77 SC. Father: William Lee G. Father: Arthur Ferney Lee. William and
Sophia Lee Phelps moved to Pulaski Co., GA between 1810-14. They lived
there the rest of their lives. Children: ARTHUR, WILLIAM, JAMES, S. NEEDHAM,
ELIJAH, POLLY, CAROLINE, ELIZABETH. This list is not in birth order. There
were PHELPS on the Claremont census of 1790. I am interested to know if
the Phelps listed is part of the family of William PHELPS. Also would like
more information on Sophia and her possible link to Arthur Ferney LEE of
Sumter Co. SC. I do have some material that I would be happy to share.

ref: Alexandra Johnson also known as Sandy Johnson. Older family members
have lead me to believe he can be located in Sumter Co., South Carolina.
This is what I have so far: Alexandra Johnson was married to Lavina, unknown
last name. Lavina or Vinie as she was known is believed to be Native American.
Alexandra and Lavina had two children possibly more, Theadore Wayne b September
2,1856 in SC, d October 19, 1932 in Hamilton Co., FL and is burried in
Hamilton/Burnham Cemetery, Hamilton Co., FL. Eliza b 1849 in SC, d 1929
and is burried in Ray City, GA. After death of Alexandra or divorce Lavina
moved to Florida with children. Lavina remarried John William Grantham
and lived in Suwanne Co., FL ref: 1870 Census for Suwannee Co., FL #567
is 35 yoa and born in SC. Lavina died February 12, 1899 and is burried
at Hamilton/Burnham Cemetery also. I live on the property that my great
grandfather Theadore Wayne Johnson farmed for many years and deeded it
to my grandparents whom deeded it to my Mother, Thanks for any help. December
