My great grandmother is listed in my father's family bible as Anna D. Merritt. She was born 9/25/1871 and married Daniel P. Smith in 1892. The 1900 census says she was born in Ohio, but the only Anna Merritt I find born in Ohio on the 1880 census is an 8 year old Anna B. Merritt in Champaign County (Adams) born to Henry and Flora Merritt. Another researcher told me this could very well be her since the census takers were sometimes not that accurate.

My earlier query concerned John O. BENNETT and his brother-in-law, Henry T. FORD, found in the 1880 census as living at Urbana. But I have recently found a listing for his older sister, Mary R. BENNETT, born 1839 in Woodstock, VT, but married in 1860 at Woodstock, OH, to Curtis B. SMITH, who died in 1864. They had a son Fred Bennett SMITH, born at Woodstock, OH, in 1860. He and his wife Winnie are in the 1910 census at Woodstock, where he is kept a grocery, and with two daughters at home, Ruby and Hulda. Winnie had had five children with three living. In 1930 Fred and Winnie were living on Bennett Street and he was a poultry farmer. Is the Fred B. SMITH, 38 in 1930 and a toolmaker in Urbana, a son of Fred and Winnie? Are there any readers out there kin to these long-lost cousins of mine? Or who know these families? Mary Bennett SMITH later married George HUTCHINSON, and she died in Champaign Co. in 1915.
