PLUNKETT
Decedent: John Plunkett

John Plunkett, was born Feb.19, 1827, in Westmoreland Co. Pa. died in his 79th year. He learned the saddlery trade and was an expert workman. In May, 9,1852 he was married in Scio, Oh. to his now bereaved widow. He enlisted in the Fifth Ohio cavalry and served three years and five months of Army life. Eight children were born to them, two boys and six girls. Four died in infancy and two in matured life; Mrs. G. W. Davis 12 years ago, and Mrs. Holzhauer 6 years ago.


BUTTERFIELD

Mrs. Jemima Butterfield (nee PILLERS) was born Wash. Co. Pa. 7 April 1818; died 27 Feb 1905 ae 90yr 10m 20ds. Her grandfather John Pillers was a Pa. German his family consisted of six children named; William, Samuel, Daniel, Polly, Becky and Sally, Daniel. Mrs. Butterfield's father was born in Wash Co. Pa. 15 July 1788 he married Nancy Chambers who was a first cousin of President Buchanan. Her mothers maiden name was Peggy Buchanan who married Stephen Caldwell and they had three children; Stephen, Robert and Elizabeth. Mr. Caldwell died and the widow married James Chambers a native of Ireland by this marriage four children were born; David, Catherine, Isabel and Nancy. In 1817 the family moved to Perry Twp. Carroll Co. Mr. Pillers died July 31,1863 aged 75yrs his aged wife died Dec 10,1878. Mrs. Butterfield had two older sisters born in Pa. Peggy(Mrs.Sheridan)and Hetty(Mrs. Shuman)her brothers and sisters born in Ohio were Albert, Lydia)Mrs. Warner), James, Nancy not married, Polly(Mrs. Wolf and Mrs. Gamble), Daniel(who died young) and Catherine (Mrs. Tope). She married John Butterfield in 1841 and eight children where born. Those surviving Daniel of Iowa, Mrs. Mary M. Thompson of Scio, and Albert of the home. She was also a stepmother to three sons John Pana, Ill and Seth of near Palermo. Buried Mt. Tabor Cemetery.


ARMITAGE
Decedent: James B. Armitage

James B.Armitage was born in Spring Creek, Pa. Feb 2, 1857 and died May 5, 1905 in Spring Creek, Pa. He married Miss Nellie Watts of Sugar Grove, July 3, 1884 who lived but two years. He married Miss Emma Colby March 14, 1888 who with three children mourn his loss.


ARMITAGE

William R. Armitage; was born at Spring Creek, Pa. June 17, 1859 and died same Aug. 30, 1905. He married Miss Rose Jackson March 2, 1887 who with six children survive.


GAMBLE
Decedent: Aaron Gamble

Aaron Gamble, an aged resident of Perry township, died last Thrusday night. The funeral was to have taken place Sunday but, owing to high water, it was deferred to Monday, when burial was made at Union Valley. Mr Gamble was for many years a resident of Dell Roy and had only recently moved to Perry township. He is survived by several children.


BARNHOUSE
Decedent: William Barnhouse

William Barnhouse died Sunday at his home near Petersburgh, after a short illness with pneumonia. The funeral services were held Tuesday and were conducted by Rev. Gray of Leesville, burial being made at Palermo. Mr. Barnhouse was born July 1, 1848, being one of the 11 children born to Samuel and Susanna Barnhouse. On October 11, 1870, he was married to Elizabeth A. Stott. He is survived by the wife, a son, Alonzo Barnhouse living on the adjoining farm, a daughter, Carrie, at home, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Ed maple of near Carrollton, John and Jason Barnhouse of Carrollton, James and Elinor Barnhouse of the southside, and Mrs. Frank Crowl of Minerva. He is also survived by four grandchildren. The family desires to thank the friends and neighbors who assisted and comforted them during the sickness and death of Mr. Barnhouse.


TOTTEN

Mrs. Anna F. Totten, 84 years old, died at the home of her daughter in Dennison, Friday. She was born in Carroll county and had lived in Dennison 30 years. A husband and four children survive.


McCORT
Decedent: Mary Jane McCort

Mrs. Mary Jane McCort, widow of the late Thomas McCort, died at 7:30 p.m., Monday. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. John McCort on south Lisbon street. Burial was made in Grandview. The deceased was a daughter of Wm. A. and Ester (Booth) Guphy and was born at New Hagerstown, in the year 1836. Her mother having died when she was two years old, she lived with her grandparents at New Hagerstown and New Cumberland.
At the age of 18 she married to Thomas McCort of Union township. To this union were born nine children, seven of who survive: Eugene of Crafton, Pa, Mrs Ada Kirby of Crestline, Lincoln of Pittsburgh,Pa., Mrs. John McCort of Carrollton, Mrs. Alice Swain, Mansfiled, Charles of Carrollton and Frank of Alliance. Ten grandchildren also survive. Her husband died several years ago. Two children, Will McCort and Mrs. Howard Semple, preceded her in death.
After her marriage Mrs.McCort lived in Union township for several years, but 47 years ago moved to a farm a mile north of Carrollton, where she and her husband lived for 18 years, when they moved to Carrollton. For the last ten years she made her home with her daughter Mrs. John McCort. The deceased was a life-long member of the M.E.Church.


BUTLER
Decedent: George J. Butler

George J. Butler, oldest dry goods merchant in Carroll county, died at his residence on west Main street, Carrollton, Saturday at 7:15 p.m., after an illness of two weeks with pneumonia and a complication of other deseases. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and interment was made in Grandview cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Messrs, Butler and Hawk. George J. Butler was born in Carrollton, Feb. 10, 1849. His father, Washington Butler, was one of the pioneers of the county and for many years was county auditor. His grandfather, George W. Butler, a native of Maryland, came to Carroll county over a century ago and started the first tannery in Carroll county. The deceased received the usual common school training and at the age of 18 became a clerk in the Jas. Huston store and later with Isaac Crumrine, whom he bought out in 1879. For 50 years Mr. Butler had been in the McCook corner -- 10 years as clerk, and 40 years as proprietor. In business he was more than successful, and at the time of his death was considered the most well-to-do merchant in Carrollton. In 1873 he married Sarah Elizabeth, daughter of Major David and Ruhama Skeeles, one daughter being born to them. Mr. Butler served four years as township and village treasurer, and several terms on the board of education, council, and board of trustees of public affairs. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and one of its heaviest contributors. Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Gertrude Amanda, wife of P.H. Kemerer; four grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph C. and Wm F. Butler, both Carrollton business men ; and two sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Cellars and Mrs. Aller of Carrollton.



P.H. Kemerer arrived in Carrollton, Saturday, from Fargo, N.D. a few hours prior to the death of his father-in-law, George J. Butler. He will remain here a few days before returning to Fargo. Paul is taken with his new position and also with that country


WILSON
Decedent: Homer A. Wilson

Homer A. Wilson, former resident of Bergholz, died Thursday morning on the Buck farm two miles from Carrollton, where he had lived for the last two years. Funeral services conducted by Rev. J.H. Butler, were held a the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. Delaney in Carrollton. The body was taken to Bergholz for burial. The deceased was born in Knoxville, Jefferson county, March, 1853. About 45 years ago he married Rena Maple, who died a number of years ago. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Elmer Dray, Mrs. Charles Haines and Mrs. McClellan, all of East Liverpool, and Mrs. C. Delaney and Scott and Charles Wilson of Carrollton; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Ed Wilson of East Liverpool and Peter Q. Wilson, Harlem.


RABE

John Rabe, farmer, passed away at his home near Leavittsville, Friday after a sickness following a stroke of paralysis. Funeral services were held Sunday, conducted by Rev. McBroom of Dellroy, and interment was made in the mausoleum in Grandview cemetery, Carrollton. The deceased was born March 15, 1850. He was married about forty years ago to Amanda Boyd, a sister of John M. Boyd of Carrollton. He is survived by his wife, four daughters -- Mrs. Lucy Palmeter of Bradley, Mrs. Tillie Semple of Sherodsville, Mrs. Eva Moreland, of near Sherodsville, Mrs. Wyrick Herron of Sherodsville, and one son, Charles Rabe, on the home farm. One brother at Lima and 14 grandchildren also survive.


MOORE
Decedent: Dickerson Moore

Dickerson Moore died at his home in Carrollton, Friday (Feb.20, 1920), of bronchial pneumonia. Burial was made Sunday in Carrollton, funeral services being conducted by Rev. G.H. Souder and Rev. J.H. Butler. The deceased was a son of the late Freeman Moore and was born in Carrollton, March 8, 1868. On Sept. 25, 1890, he married Laura Champer. Surviving are the wife, two sons and a daughter: Lawrence Moore of Marion, Ind., Olive and Carl at home; one grandchild, and three sisters, Mrs. Jack Brown of Malvern, Mrs. John Maple of Alliance and Mrs. Louella Maple of Des Moies, Iowa.


BARNHOUSE
Decedent: Elmer E. Barnhouse

Elmer E. Barnhouse died of influenza, Thursday evening, at his home in Scio. Burial was made Sunday at Perrysville. The deceased was born in Perry-tp in 1865. He married Lizzie Mc Carty about 15 years ago. Surviving are the wife, a son, Ralph, aged nine, and the following brothers and sisters: John Barnhouse of Union township, James Barnhouse of Perry township, Jason Barnhouse of Carrollton, Mrs. Ed Maple of near Carrollton and Mrs. Frank Crowl of Minerva.
