Henry Miller & Minnie Olsen

Henry Miller was born on the homestead of his parents, John and Elizabeth Miller, north of Hazen.

His wife, Minnie, was born to Edward and Johanna Olsen at Nelson, Minn. She was raised and attended school there and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1922. She attended St. Cloud, Minn. Teachers’ College and came to North Dakota with a friend to teach school north of Hazen.

After Henry and Minnie were married in 1925, they lived on a farm north of Hazen, until they retired and moved into Hazen in 1948.

Minnie was Hazen’s first city librarian and was also an active member of English Lutheran Church activities, the Homemaker’s Club, and the Senior Citizens Club. She also served as an assistant for the Community Education program for five years. She died in a vehicle-pedestrian accident at Alexandria in 1983.

Henry worked for Hanewalds Furniture for 25 years. He also worked on bicycles as a hobby. After he taught Minnie to ride bike, they spent many summer evenings riding together.

They had three children: Donald, who lives on a farm north of Hazen and has five children; Mardel (Mrs. Hal Orseth) has two sons and teaches in Lakota; Edris Ann (Mrs. Waldo Schulz) has four children and works in a nursing home and lives at Long Lake, Minn.
