They have five children: Thomas; Jocelyn (Reiling); Janet (Rutledge); Timothy, and Laurel. The children were active in 4-H and received many awards for their accomplishments.

Donald and Margie have been 4-H leaders for 26 years. Margie has been a Sunday school teacher for 35 years and also is active in the church’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. At the present time, she is zone president. They are foster parents and have had 27 children in their home. They are members of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hazen.

Donald’s mother died in 1983; and Margie’s father died in 1966.

Memories Shared by Margie Miller, 2009

Candlelight Christmas
(click on link to view the magazine article)

Click on the link above to see what the old fashioned Christmas with real candles was like in the old days in North Dakota. Marge Miller is married to Don Miller, 2nd cousin of the Maas kids.  The Maas farm is two and on-half miles from the Miller farm and we had many fun times together.  We all did go to church Christmas Eve in the horse drawn sleigh (no jingle bells but the clop, clop of the horses hooves and the sound of the harnesses is still vivid in my memory.)  What a joy it was to receive the bags filled with nuts, peanuts, hard candy, and an orange after we had sung Christmas hymns and recited our memorized verses. Thanks, Marge, for your memories!  And a Merry and Blessed Christmas everyone.

Dennis
