ADAM AND WILHELMINA GUENTHNER

Adam and Wilhelmina (Reiner Weisz) Guenthner and their four small children came to the United States in 1893 from Crimea, Russia. Wilhelmina’s first husband and an infant daughter had died, and her son George was 19 months old when she and Adam married. The family settled near Mannhaven and the parents spent their entire lives there. Five more children were born to the family after they moved here. The last one died as an infant.

In the first years they were here, they had to endure much hardship and hard labor. They had to haul grain to New Salem. The journey was a long and tedious one and not at all lucrative. One fall, wheat sold for 25 cents a bushel and flax for 45 cents a bushel.

They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church at Mannhaven.

Adam died in 1928 at the age of 65. Wilhelmina died in 1935 at the age of 74.

Three of their children married three August Isaak children. George also married an Isaak, but of a different family. Although not all still living, 14 sets of twins have been born to Adam and Wilhelmina’s descendants.
