She married Francis Hall Darnall on April 27, 1876, at St. Nicholas RCC. She was living in Baltimore.

Baltimore on January 1, 1919.

She married James Biscoe Adams, May 21, 1867 - November 12, 1920, son of Biscoe Adams
and Sallie Adams about September 30, 1890, at St. Inigoes Manor House.
The family moved to Baltimore City about 1915.

1st Generation - Mary E. (Cashell) Fenwick, the lady with the white cap on her head and the rattle in her hand;
married James Athanasius Fenwick before 1847. James Athanasius Fenwick was born
1818 in St. Mary's County. He was the son of Col. Athanasius Fenwick and his
wife, Susan Howell, a native of Philadelphia. Both parents died within six weeks
of each other in 1824. James and his two sisters were sent to live with
relatives of their mother in Philadelphia. James and Mary lived in a house built
by his cousin, Benjamin Jones, in 1827, known today as "Fenwick Manor," in
Burlington County, New Jersey. He died there on July 19, 1882.
2nd Generation - Mary Ann (Fenwick) White, the lady sitting in the rocking chair holding the baby;
married Joseph Josiah White of Burlington, New Jersey, 11 Nov 1869.
3rd Generation - Ann P. (White) Chambers, the young lady on the right.
4th Generation - Elizabeth Hoagland Chambers, the 6-month old baby.
On the back of this photo, Mr. Fenwick wrote "M. E. Fenwick (1st generation), widow of James A.
Fenwick of Athanasius. Died 10/29/1911. M. A. White (2nd generation). Ann P.

John Nelson Graves (1897-1953) was the son of Philip Thomas Graves and Carrie
Mae Harding. This picture was taken while he was a student at Charlotte Hall
Military Academy.

Philip Thomas Graves (1868-1953), son of John Nelson Graves and Elizabeth Taylor
Buckler, and husband of Carrie Mae Harding. He was the father of seven daughters
and one son. He lived an eclectic life as a farmer, preacher, justice of the
peace, magistrate, postmaster and State Roads assistant commissioner. He was an
avid reader of the Bible and could quote lengthy passages from memory. Picture
taken about 1890. Philip Thomas Graves and Carrie Mae Harding were the
grandparents of our contributor, Gene McLaughlin.

1889. They had no children.

James Hiram "Hidy" Harding was born 1873 in St. Mary's County and died some time
after 1939 in Miami, Florida. He was the son of James A. Harding and Julia Dick.
He married Clara May Harding, his cousin, on July 1, 1897, and they lived in
Washington, D.C. After Clara's death, Hidy married again and moved to Florida.

James W. Combs, son of Robert Henry Combs and his first wife, Maria Hayden, was born
1828 in St. Mary's County and died in June 1905 at Fredericktown, Washington
County, KY. He is the older man seated in the middle of this picture.
On the back of the picture is a notation that the man to his left is his son and to
his right is his son-in-law. No other identification was given.
A note by Mr. Fenwick reads, "Jim Combs, raised in and around Leonardtown, MD.
Was clerk in Edelen's store in Leonardtown. This store was called 'Sleepy Hollow Store' and
stood on the site of the present (1957) Methodist Church. Jim Combs was a
veteran of the Mexican War. He moved to Kentucky. He was a fast friend of Edwin
Coad of Cherryfields."
According to the "Chronicles of St. Mary's," James W. Combs moved to Cincinnati,
Ohio, about 1853 and then to Kentucky.

Forbes Britton was born in Clarksville, Mecklenburg County, VA in 1812. He graduated
from West Point in 1834. He spent most of his military career moving the Indians
from the southeastern U.S. to the western states. After serving in the Mexican
War, he was promoted to the rank of Captain. In 1850 he resigned his commission
and moved his family to Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was elected to the Texas State Legislature in 1857 and served until 1860 when
he was commissioned Chief of Staff to Sam Houston and given the rank of Brigadier General.
He died on February 14, 1861 in Austin, Texas, while attending a special session of
the Legislature.

Charles and Anne (McClelland)
Nutwell had three sons: John W., Levi, and Charles, who was wed first to Sally
Ann Johnson, secondly, Anne Elizabeth Sprague. They also had three daughters:
Susan, whomarried John McClelland; Matilda, married Josephe Booth; and Anne, who
died at a very young age. Anne (McClelland) Nutwell died when daughter Anne was
born.
Charles married again to Mary Gibbons, and their children were:
Mary Margaret, who married Willam T. Hammet; William, who married Mary Matilda
Abell; Maria, who married James Francis Abell; and Charlotte, who married John
Johnson.

John Nuthall of Cross Manor was born about 1614 in Cheshire England. He
immigrated to Northampton, Virginia, before 1630. He married Elizabeth Halloway
in 1645. Their children were Eleanor, John, James, and Elias. He married second
to Jane Johnson about 1660 in Northampton, Virginia. There were no children born
of this marriage. He purchased Cross Manor and Elizabeth Manor from Thomas
Cornwallis in 1661. It is thought that Jane died before John took possession of
Cross Manor, because there is no mention of her after he moved to Maryland. John
Nuthall died in 1667, and it is believed he is buried on the grounds of Cross
Manor, St. Mary's County, Maryland.

Greenwell and his first wife, Eleanor Abell. Alethia married Benedict Spalding
(1798-2/4/1932), a storekeeper, on September 29, 1819.

Charlotte Spalding (5/3/1822-2/23/1900) was the daughter of Benedict Spalding
and Alethia Greenwell. She married Aloysius Francis Fenwick (11/7/1817-3/3/1888)
on December 3, 1840. After her husband's death, she moved to Baltimore where she
died at the home of her daughter.

Edward Leo Spalding was born 1820 in St. Mary's County and died 1874 in Baltimore.
Son of Edward Spalding and Mary “Polly” Floyd. In 1870, he was still living in St. Mary’s
County and was listed as a Fire Insurance Agent.

Ellen Rebecca Spalding, daughter of Benedict and Alethia (Greenwell) Spalding, was
born on September 19, 1821. She married first, Joseph Dunbar, Jr. (1805-1852) on
June 8, 1848. Her second husband was John Felix Fenwick (1819-1886) whom she
married on October 16, 1862. Ellen died on December 11, 1898.

Martin John Spalding was born in Kentucky in 1810. He was the son of Richard
Spalding, who was born in St. Mary's Co. on April 16, 1777. He was the first
Bishop of Louisville, KY, and Archbishop of Baltimore 1864-1862 (History of St.
Mary's Co., MD by Regina Combs Hammett). He was ordained in 1834.

Francis J. Stone was the son of Dr. Joseph Stone and his third wife, Jane E. Smith.
He was born in St. Mary's County on March 27, 1826, and died in Washington, D.C. on
April 20, 1889. Francis J. Stone died suddenly on Saturday morning in
Washington. His remains were brought to this county on Monday last. Buried in
Sacred Heart Cemetery. He was a clerk on the steamer "Wakefield." Was a farmer
in Medley's Neck for several years. Later moved to the Milestown section where
he left the farm in charge of his wife and two sons. Has a daughter living in
California. (St. Mary's Beacon, 4/27/1889).
Francis J. Stone married
Francinia M. Shorb, a native of Frederick Co., MD, on April 29, 1846 in
Frederick Co.
On the back of this picture, Mr. Fenwick wrote "Francis
Stone, Cud Stone's father. Friend of Edwin Coad. He was purser on the 'Express'
when it went down off Point No Point. He was saved by swimming under some
wreckage and coming up through a port hole."

Luke F. Matthews was born in St. Mary’s County in 1852. He was the son of Thomas Matthews
(a native of Charles County) and Harriett Jane Stone. Harriett Jane Stone was the sister
of Francis J. Stone (1826-1889).

Alexander "Sandy" Beal (1839-1924)
his wife, Lucy Ann (Dunbar) Beal (1850-1908)
their daughter, Marie Christine (Beal) Raley (1887-after1924)
and their infant daughter, Myrtle Etienne (Beal) Tippett (1878-1909)
Confederate Soldier, Sandy Beal, served the for the Confederate States in the Maryland
Line, Co. B, 1st Maryland Cavalry under Bradley T. Johnson. During the war he fought at Fredericksburg, Wilderness, Chancelorville and was wounded and
captured at Gettysburg. He was first imprisoned at Ft. Delaware, but was
later relocated to Point Lookout Prison Camp.

Dr. Lewis Milburn Tippett was born January 6, 1864 and died on May 1, 1908. He
was the son of John Wesley Tippett (1832-1899) and Joseph Ann Bean (1837-1895).
He graduated from Charlotte Hall Military Academy and then attended Baltimore
College of Physicians and Surgeons where he received his M.D.in 1892.
He
married Myrtle Etienne Beale on December 27, 1899, and they lived first at Ridge
and then at St. Inigoes where he died. Dr. Tippett is buried at All Faith
Episcopal Church at Huntersville near his parents and brother. Picture taken
about 1900.

Myrtle Etienne Beale was born August 7, 1878, and died on May 19, 1909. She was
the daughter of Alexander "Sandy" Beale (1839-1924) and Lucy Ann Dunbar
(1850-1908). She married Dr. Lewis Milburn Tippett on December 27, 1899. She is
buried at St. Michael's RCC in Ridge near her parents. Picture taken about 1900.
