Will of Shadrack Green 1815

Last Will & Testament of Shadrack GREEN of Baltimore county, Dated 8 Dec 1815, Proved 15 Nov 1822

I, Shadrack Green of Baltimore County . . .Whereas the property I now possess hath been chiefly acquired by the joint industry and frugality of my dear wife and myself, I bequeath all my property both real and personal to my loving wife during her natural life and widowhood and no longer. After the death or marriage of my wife, should my slaves Stephen Carmack and Isaac Carmack continue to be faithful servants . . both shall be manumitted so as to be free after her death or marriage and not before. After the death or marriage of my wife I devise to slave Stephen Carmack 5 acres on the east side of my mansion house and adjacent General Ridgely's land and to slave Isaac Carnack at the death or marriage of my wife, I devise 1 acre adjacent to his brother - if they wish to sell the land, it shall be valued by two neighbors and one of my sons or daughters on paying the value money to be the purchaser and no other.

All of my children to have an equal amount of my property. I have kept accounts open against those who have received any part of my estate. . . Bequeath to Elizabeth Givens wife of James Givens, Ann Bosley wife of Joshua Bosley, my son Joshua Green, Tempy Mays wife of John Mays, Thomas Green my son, Matilda Miles wife of Abraham Miles, Rachel Green wife of Joshua B Green, Susan Green and Ariann Greenway my daughters. Property real and personal to be divided among the above. Should children not agree on division, land to be sold but for not less than $55 per acre and the money shall be equally divided.

Whereas I, Shadrack Green have duly executed my last Will & Testament bearing date of 8th Dec 1815 make this Codicil. I authorize wife Rachel to manumit not only Stephen Carmack and Isaac Carmack but all the rest of my slaves. Signed 19th January 1821
